I know there is a thread on this candidate but this is not about her.
It is about any of you fucks who voted for this crazy ignorant bitch. AC called her out on her bullshit and she turns around and calls him anti-Christian...you've got to be kidding me.
This is what the rest of the country will think of when they hear North Carolina. Football cheaters and dumbass bitches.

Bob Etheridge has beaten republican opponants in this district 7 times already, but this is the one he loses to.
How does that happen? Did the democrats just not show up? Or are NC republicans THAT afraid of an imam in NYC? 11/3/2010 3:40:34 PM |

Alternate possibility:
Degenerating your opponents as mindless, racist, and every other degrading term you can think of and treating them as children who need your divine guidance (as a large contingent of the democratic party is wont to do) is not a good way to get yourself re-elected. I mentioned before that the democrats were walking a very thin line with their constant portrayals of the republicans and the tea party as racist idiots. While it did fire up their base a bit, it also ran the very high risk of firing up the republican base as well. Nothing get's a group fired up like feeling they (and their beliefs and way of life) are under attack. It appears the democrats crossed that line in the last years.11/3/2010 7:56:54 PM |

I'm confident that Etheridge doesn't equate Muslims with terrorist. I'm also confident that he is capable of understanding that all religious fanaticism is dangerous and that Christians have the same cross to bear. 11/3/2010 8:01:32 PM |

In 1898, Democrats took over NC by relying heavily on racialized rhetoric and fear.
It's a hundred and twelve years later, and Republicans finally managed to pull off the same feat!
This ain't about healthcare or the stimulus or jobs. It's about the Kenyan-Hawaiian socialist Muslim terrorist that Democrats put in office. And, oh yeah, he's black, too...that's probably the trait that put him over the top in terms of setting off the racists among us.
I mean, it's hilarious...like the Tea Party. Had the Tea Party started like four years earlier or twenty years earlier or whatever, it would be so awesome...but they gotta wait 'til we elect our first black president to get organized? Come on! 11/3/2010 8:34:45 PM |

Problem is that a bunch of goddamned NeoCon, proto-Imperalist, Jesus nuts hijacked what was originally a fiscal movement and made it into a bastardized reincarnation of the Christian Coalition.

I'm not portraying republicans or tea partyers as anything. This specific woman is a MORON. I wonder of all the people who voted for her, how many saw this interview and knew who they were really putting into office.
This is of course just a theory, and since I'm not in NC anymore I can't really do anything about it, but IMO all of this is just a reflection on how people feel about Obama and not about this particular candidate. I have loved the team of Etheridge, Price, and Miller, and thought they have done a great job for the interests of North Carolina, but this woman will vote with the tea party which is not a reflection of how the state (or even District 2) really feels.
If there was a good strong Republican candidate I would be ok with it. For example, I grew up in the 9th district where Sue Myrick has won every term since 1995, and I'm totally fine with her. But Ellmers is a nutcase who will not do well as a representative for our state.11/3/2010 8:51:33 PM |

Of all the districts in NC that could have had an upset, Ellmers was easily the worst. I would trade 3 other districts if it meant Ellmers lost.
And by like 1%… that’s like a kick in the nuts.

This lady is ridiculous, and Cooper ripped her to shreds. Was there really not a better candidate in that district, or are the voters here that dumb? I mean, Bob Etheridge is bad, no doubt, and the fact that he's out of office is a positive thing in itself. Hopefully she won't be given the opportunity to vote on anything too terrible. But really, wow.
I think this is an insight into the the voters' minds. If you think about it, the Mosque "debate" had no real policy implications. What were they going to do, pass a resolution? Did they pass a resolution? Who gives a damn? Hardly anyone was saying, "the government needs to step in and put this to a stop." People were mainly saying they just shouldn't build it there. It had nothing to do with how anyone was going to vote. If I didn't know better, I'd say this issue was concocted by Fox to fire up the traditional conservative base. Oh.

And question about this...
Quote : | "She led Etheridge by 49.6 percent to 48.5 percent - 2,099 votes - in unofficial results with all counties reportings. Libertarian Tom Rose had 1.85 percent." |
If no one broke 50%, then there should be a runoff, right? Rose would be off the ballot and a runoff should be held between Etheridge and Ellmers with no write-in options. Am I off on that assumption?11/3/2010 11:54:21 PM |

Are you disputing that Ellmers is borderline autistic?
Besides, "large swaths of the American population" have blood dripping from their hands and are too apathetic, brainwashed, and stupid to see it. Pointing it out has the strange effect of emboldening them. What would you expect a reasonable person to do save throw his hands up in the air at this point? What's going to change?

I live in District 2.
I met both Etheridge and Ellmers within 30 minutes of one another at a local fair Labor Day weekend. I did fairly extensive research on both candidates. I am registered Independent and I takes stances on either side of the political spectrum dependent on issue.
Etheridge's Pro's - Pro Choice - Socially favorable in my eyes
Etheridge's Con's - Pro "Tax and Spend" and "Big Government" - voted for HCR - Incumbent - Fiscally unfavorable to me.
Ellmer's Pro's - Pro "Fair Tax" - Pro Medicare, Medicaid, and SS reform.
Ellmer's Con's - Socially unfavorable to me
Considering the issues that I was voting for this election, #1 being the economy, I voted for the sake of the economy as to how I would like to see it progress. If Ellmers doesn't vote how I want to see her vote (specifically supporting a FairTax bill), I will vote for her opponent in 2 years.
With every election you have to pick the least unfavorable, not the perfect candidate. I seriously doubt there are 435 people in the entire country that I would find to be the perfect congressman. This race is no different.

I wasn't particularly talking about you, I was referring to the current and most popular DNC tactic. To be honest, the DNC has always come across as condescending and holier-than-thou (hence why they fail miserably at talk radio), it's just become much more recent and prominent in the last 10 years or so, case in point:
Quote : | "This ain't about healthcare or the stimulus or jobs. It's about the Kenyan-Hawaiian socialist Muslim terrorist that Democrats put in office. And, oh yeah, he's black, too...that's probably the trait that put him over the top in terms of setting off the racists among us.

And that's just in this thread alone. Unsurprisingly, hurling personal insults at people is a bad way to get them to listen to your message. Combine this with a strong anti-incumbent feeling among moderates, an ever pervasive message that voting third party is throwing away your vote, and a growing perception that politics is just a game and it doesn't matter who is in office, they're going to fuck you over anyway and you have the conditions necessary for electing someone unqualified and incompetent. When the government stops representing the people, why should the people care who they elect?
Incidentally, this is also a perfect example of why government power should be limited. Because at any given time, you might find your worst nightmare is the one holding the levers of power.11/4/2010 1:03:46 PM |

(1) Telling people the truth is a bad campaign strategy, in general, because people are ridiculously complicit in atrocity (2) I am not a democrat; confusing my own attitudes for strategic/political failings in the democratic party is ridiculous

Get off of your high horse. Liberals, even when "right", are impotent slaves of the same system. The past 2 years are proof enough of that; hell, the past 10 years are excellent proof that both conservatives and liberals are serving precisely the same interests.
