What are you planning on buying for people? What have you already bought people?

P.S. When shopping online, always check http://www.retailmenot.com to see if there are promo codes you can use

I already have stuffed picked out in my head for my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and my brother.

I have already finished shopping for my husband.

I would be completely happy skipping the gifting part of Christmas this year with my family. I always wind up feeling like it's just all of us spending more money than anyone wants to spend on things that people have added to their list of wants just because they need to suggest something. And you could do the personalized "I made this for you" or "this made me think of you" thing, but that doesn't really work in my family for reasons I don't feel like going into.

Its funny to see the Leatherman Wave still a "hot product". I put a wave straight through my palm almost a decade ago on accident.

I'm making cookies for everyone aside from my immediate family. If people don't like that they can kiss my ass : mad:

I got my MIL's gift on Saturday. I went to a craft fair and this guy was selling wine bottles that he melted down and made into spoon rests

Looks like this:

That appears to be a knife rest, rather than a spoon rest.

I love the one that I bought for my MIL. The way he melted it down, the wine label stayed on the bottle.

I have no idea what to buy for my FIL. I guess I'll use wolfpackgrrr's thread for that

Yeah I'm looking on Target's website right now and nothing's really jumping out at me. If I had the time I'd just make my own

so far i have gotten the boyfriend's present. can't post what it is cause he'll find out but i think it is good. i *MIGHT* add to it, but i'm not sure yet

gotta get something for my brother...NO idea here. well i have a couple of ideas but nothing i really love/think he'll LOVE

my dad...we are trying to swing a professionally done photo of my brother and i, but that shit be pricey yo. however, i get a deal where i work so i think we can do it. i think he'll like it, but if we do that, it will be pretty much his only present aside from maybe some snacks in his stocking :/ but we haven't had a picture together in...probably since i was still in college (and my dad took those). no professional picture since HS. i was hoping to get him like an 8x10 or something and then my grandmother a 5x7. so we'll see.

after the photo i really have 0 other ideas for my dad. he has all the tools/shirts/ties/gadgets he needs/wants sooooooooo that leaves me grasping at straws. i thought about cooking lessons, but he doesn't really like to cook that much. wine tasting lessons maybe? but apparently things may be on the rocks with his gf and that prob isn't super fun to do solo

geez, life. y so complicated?

bf's fam i was going to get like a serving platter or something for. i dunno. kinda boring but, i am out of ideas there, too.

holla

boyfriend = done

brother = done

got my brother 2 sweaters from LL bean. one was EXACTLY what i was looking for (hopefully the color is pretty close to the pic though)...it is a purple (but manly purple) 1/4 zip pull over cashmere sweater (he goes to ECU, hence the color). then i got him some other blue striped crew neck that was on sale that i think he'll like. sweaters are boring but he has like 0 clothes, 0 money to buy them, and no mother to shop for him so...i feel like it is a good gift.

does anyone have experience with doing this? i have a really cool wine bottle i have been holding onto in the hopes of making one of my own or finding someone with experience that can help me

as for stockings.... i personally like "classic" looking stockings that have the owners name embroidered on the top. i got my bf one last year from jcpenny online of all places and it was pretty affordable. it was a littler smaller than i expected but it looks great. jcp also does the embroidery so no worries there. none of the stockings below are like the one i bought but they might work for you

here are some fun/young stockings

Originally $25.99 plus $5 for personalization. You must select ship to store for the free shipping. (For some reason the "JUSTSHOP" code for $10 off $25 does not work on this. It says minimum amount not met. I think it does not consider the personalization for the total)

as for christmas shopping... i am ALMOST done!

mom is getting a new digital camera with 4gb of memory, a new level (she asked for it) & lots of cute stocking stuffers

step dad is getting a $100 gift card to DSW because he needs a few pairs of new shoes and will only treat himself with a giftcard, season 3 of dexter & an edible arrangement delivered next week for hanukah (he won't get his gift card until the xmas exchange so im sending him the arrangement)

boyfriend is getting a north face jacket, personalized correspondence cards (he's fancy like that), all 3 seasons of mad men & some stocking stuffers

the grandparents are getting the 2011 edition of the kovels antique collectors guide (they run a resell shop and it comes in handy for them)

dad & step family are getting canned popcorn

favorite aunt & family are getting some food treat and maybe some homemade sewn items if my sewing class goes well...

and my handful of friends are all getting personalized stationary & maybe a homemade sewn item (i'm taking a class on how to make a clutch, pj pants and a tote bag so i hope i am good at it so i can make some as gifts)

i have bought everything already except for the dsw gift card, food items & a bday gift for a good friend who has the misfortune of having a bday on the 26th (her bday gift always gets clumped with her xmas gift so for the past 20 years of our friendship i always wrap her presents in very explicitly bday & xmas paper) and the sewn items aren't made yet

my biggest challenge is waiting for everything i bought online to show up in the mail in time to wrap it box it and ship it to arrive on time. i'm banking on USPS flat rate boxes. i only have to mail to 5 people but one is international so it will almost definitely be late

whew...that was way longer than anticipated!

I am buying nothing for everyone because I am too poor. I might make them some cards but no one expects anything from me so I don't have to worry about shopping and getting "the right gift" this year.

i am sending my brother's gift back

and still don't have one for my dad

darn it! i was doing so well, but with the returns i'm behind again

i got my brother 2 sweaters from LL bean that looked really great, and they look good in person but they seem like they'll fit weird. they're very, very boxy...which doesn't seem too youthful. so i don't think getting a smaller size would solve the issue. sadness.

i might get him a new basketball because he plays pick up bball like everyday and something else...dunno what the something else is yet though. new basketball and bottle of tequila? haha. i mean he is 22...i'm sure he'd love a bottle of liquor.

Anyone know if they sell a Mr. Wuf Christmas tree topper at the bookstore? I looked on their website but it doesn't always have all of the merchandise on there.

i love throw blankets they are always useful. and collegiate ones are neat. i'd love a state one sooooo hopefully they will like them.

while i enjoy LL Bean and they make quality clothing i've learned that almost everything they sell fits this way. I'd be concerned the smaller size will still be boxy but also be too short in the arms

^yeah. don't expect any modern cuts out of ll bean. most of their men's stuff runs a little short in the torso too. very very boxy. lands end has some more up to date styles/cuts.

i looked at land's end first but couldn't find what i wanted. then i found a purple men's sweater at LL bean and got it, but seeing it in person...no bueno for someone < 45 haha. oh well it was free shipping anyways so i'll just send them back. and i got a $10 GC since i spent over a certain amount and i'm gonna use it to buy a tote bag (monogrammed) for someone else's gift. because their (and land's end, too) tote bags rock and hold up for a long long long time.
