Are you wanting to do something historical? Cultural? Technological? Just want to get shitfaced in a bar in Kabukicho?

heading back in october - will be there sunday 10/9 to saturday 10/15 - the 10th is a holiday - staying at the conrad off of odaiba

it's a scouting trip to see if moving over there for 1-2 years to help our local office is a good idea - we're going to send someone and i'm the obvious choice right now - very different than when my wife and i moved to australia for 2 years to start our office there - 2 kids in tow if we move this time

any recommendations? haven't been back since 2010 - going to try and get a reservation at jiro's place but skeptical

Best of luck with Jiro. I've heard that he actually doesn't like non Japanese speakers. He likes to explain the sushi to his clients and if he can't then he isn't happy etc...

Having said all of that I would go if I could.

once i was watching a sushi chef (not Jiro) make some top-grade stuff for some gaijin. All whitey could muster was "hmm mmhmm that's good" whereas AZNs are all about over-the-top-O-face reactions. I was LOL waiting for the chef to squash him.

have been offered to move over for 1-2 years with more likelihood of 2 than 1

won't make a final decision until the trip in October is over but I've started taking Japanese lessons already

my wife and I moved over to Australia back in 2011 with the same company (although we've been acquired since) but that was before we had kids so it's a very different world this time around

Amazing week in Tokyo - as long as the relocation package is okay we'll be moving for at least a year sometime early next year.

Didn't make it to Jiro's but had some of the most amazing food this week.

Coming back the week of November 7th.

Tokyo was fun! Was there this past October. Tried to see the Kurama Fire Festival in Kyoto, but the a Typhoon said no and shut it down Did get to go to the Tokyo Motor show and see a bunch of different historical sites. Overall A++ trip. Will go back 2019 and spend some more time in Tokyo.

I stayed 2 nights in Osaka. I was stoked to visit quite a large Tamiya store while I was there. Totally blew $100 like it was nothing while I was in there... Could have done more damage to my wallet, but I didn't want to check luggage anything fragile from that store...

Going to Iwakuni in March, anyone been there? Figuring maybe Duke has been in his military career. Been to Japan plenty of times, but first time there.
