they are great.

I like the netgear if you just need one line. If you are going from a router to multiple devices...get the linksys media powerline. yeah they are $texas...but they are work it.

i have a pair of zyzel wireless/ethernet/homeplug routers. I disabled the wireless and dhcp servers on both and have one if my office of my linksys router and then the other in my living room. They work. Their internal speed testing thing says they get around 40-60mbps. I stream videos over it just fine. I got them because they were cheap ($50 for the pair) and i was having a heck of a time with interference when using wifi.

Although I'm in a condo. If it were a house I'd run cat5.

I'm basically looking for alternatives to getting another access point/ethernet bridge for my Directv receiver and Xbox 360.

I was looking at a few of the netgear adapters. Any specific recommendations? How much are the zyzel ones?

the zyxel ones i bought were cheap (but they are now discontinued). To be honest the adapters may cost as much as if you just got a wireless bridge.

I have been using a cisco wireless bridge on my xbox and its a pain in the ass. It has started to go out constantly and is just flat out irritating to deal with.

i bought the netgear 200mbps from compusa for my setup. It was like $100 but well worth it in my opinion. I bought a new townhouse and only had 1 cable line running into the living room on the main floor - which i needed for direct-tv. so i bought this adapter and plugged in my twc cable modem downstairs in the bonus room and used the powerline adapters to connect the router to the modem.

I wanted to have my wireless router in this same location because it is the best area for wireless coverage throughout the house and I wanted to wire my htpc, tv, directv dvr, and xbox360 to the ethernet ports.

Do these work cross-circuit? For instance if the rooms are on different breaker systems?

Mine are going cross circuit and they work fine. Although there is bandwidth loss i guess. I dont know if thats the breakers or if its just a distance thing. Old wiring can be cause noise problems. Also if its on the same circuit as big draw items (dryer/oven/etc...) they can cause problems when in use.

I was worried after seeing reviews about going cross circuit so I bought some ethernet over coax adapters.
I've been happy with them and can stream HD video with no problems.
