I'm keeping my eye out on this one...I've heard Square pushed back the release date to hit their fiscal 2011 so maybe a little more time to polish will turn it in to a great game.

I love Deus Ex as much as the next guy, but damn that looks clunky. Lots of menus during combat? Ick. If you can set up a lot of macros so you don't have to open the damn menus to switch abilities, then I'll be happy.

I'm not writing it off, but I'll wait for some reviews before running out and getting it.

Looked at it again. Its just the way they chose to show each weapon. They included each menu selection of each weapon which just made it look clunky.. That shouldn't translate to game play because almost every game has hot buttons or mouse wheel weapon select.

I loved Deus Ex. I never played the second one but my understanding is that it's crap.

Hopefully this one is awesome. I thought the gameplay looked sweet, although I agree it looked pretty clunky in combat sometimes, but I don't mind menus and strategic play as long as the menus aren't unnecessary. .

been playing deus ex 1 for the first time for the last couple weeks on the hardest difficulty. it's one of the best games i've played. very challenging (on hard, not realistic) and quite rewarding, especially if you're an explorer. very much looking forward to the next one.

i started playing the second one. i had to play it on xbox because i can't get the engine to observe any gamma settings on my pc. of course i had to play it on original xbox because it's not on the bc list for 360. xbox broke last night as soon as i got my augs

I guess I was too young. I started on the second one (Invisible War) and I loved it. I've never even played the first. I guess maybe the second game seems a lot better without having played it's counterpart.

i went to the world premier of gameplay at pax east and this game will be goty by MANY publications. bf3 and la noire may garner some votes due to the money behind their publishers but this game will be beyond epic unless the story turns out to be shit

^^I AM the broken record that keeps repeating myself, but I remember all the hype and praise surrounding all the new game features that Far Cry 2 was to offer. To me that game defines purchased praise and pre-release false advertising.

I'll wait and see. Usually they can mask average with puffed up reports, but usually they don't attach the goty label to something they know they'll get called out for later.

I watched an embedded youtube video a while back and thought it looked alright.

Then I went to the video page on youtube and saw that it had like 80% dislikes and people were kicking up a huge shitstorm about how terrible it looked.

^^^ by wanting something with an actual challenge? something that appeals to a gamer that actually remembers and played the original? I have really high hopes for the game but the plot and settings seem to be the main parallels to the first, not the gameplay. The gameplay reminds me a lot of the second one, which sucked balls in comparison. I LOVE the first and can't bring myself to beat the second.

Getting this game for sure. Honestly I bet they leaked this intentionally in response to all the hate this game is getting.

Turns out they are going with an alternate history future type story. A bunch of the advancements you read about in the game were discovered in-universe in the 1990's and early 2000's.

The only person you have to kill in the preview build was the boss. That fight was the worst part (not that you had to kill him just the fight was dumb and difficult)

I see where I went wrong before and made the encounters presumably non-lethal. Don't know if they died or passed out with the green gas. I had to stop playing because of motion sickness. I preordered this game on pc but I kinda want to play it on my big tv and surround sound. I also don't seem to suffer from motion sickness on a tv, but I do not want to play with a controller.

So, for anyone that's played the beta...

In the video I saw a while back it looked like the silent take downs had a brief black screen that flashed and a cinematic that played afterward. Is this still the case - because (IMO) it interrupts the flow. I'd rather just have a silent take down be integrated in with the gameplay as opposed to a cut away cinematic each and every time.

If they had the budget of Battlefield 3 they probably would have done the kills/knockouts like knife kills that game, where it's done from a first person perspective.

But it's much easier to do black screen then third person animation, so you only have to worry about whether you are in front of or behind him, not exactly what position both characters are and whether there's enough room to do the animation without clipping through objects etc.

This really isn't a game I'm getting for the modding community, but I'm not sure how much I'll like 360 control vs. keyboard and mouse. Play on a 50inch plasma, or a 23 inch lcd. Decisions, decisions...
