I'd get a legacy or outback wagon and if you want to drive onroad id get eibach springs off not leave them stock

I know of a WRX wagon/manual (blue) for sale in Raleigh. Looks clean and has something like ~50k miles.

Anyway, the problems you say don't sound excessive for a 50k mile car. You (we all are really) are a bit spoiled by your good previous luck and the reliability of some modern cars. The window probably only needs a bit of lube on the rails (silicone based). I'll do it for you for free if you want, piece of cake and doesn't take any disassembly.

I don't like Hondas anymore. (have owned several, including a new 98 EX-V6 Coupe -which needed 3 transmissions and a head job by 90k miles) - I have no interest in another, and haven't owned one in something like 5 years.

PS: What is your life style that you can't do a sports car? I really like WRX wagons, but they're a bit overpriced nowadays.

I should add though, that the current Si is a great car, particularly on track. I'd love to write off Honda entirely (and corporate mindset has moved away from a handling/engine company), but that particular car is very capable on track.

I'm close to Hickory & I've tried to lube the rails but it just shows up the next year. If you smack the door panel before you hit auto-up then it works. I think it's a combo of a weaker motor, the temp change, & a maybe a too-sensitive safety reset. The problems have all been around since it literally went out of warranty. The week after I broke warranty is when the window issue popped up but I dismissed it. When it happened again a few months later, they didn't care and it's been ongoing since. Fan control started at 39k miles. Maybe I am spoiled by my previous cars but I think any kind of issues within 50k should be unexpected. Part of the reason that I bought this car new was to get away from needing to do any kind of service work or real modification. Of course, after 3 years without pulling a motor, replacing head gaskets, or installing new suspension I really kinda miss it all.

My main issue with a sports car is my job. I work in the construction industry and it throws up several problems. I was seriously looking at 996s this fall after you bought yours and started talking about prices before I really considered the problems. First, there's no telling where I'm going to be driving week to week. My warehouse is a gravel drive that's often in poor condition and I'm usually there once a week (ripped the front under-bumper plastic out the first visit in the Si). If we're doing something with new construction, I may be in dirt & mud. I do sales visits every few weeks as well and pulling up in a 911 would really send the wrong signal with a lot of our customers. Finally, I just wouldn't want to be driving a nice sports car 20k+ miles a year and with having just bought the house, I can't afford a decent work vehicle & a nicer sports car.

I'm really surprised by your thoughts of it on track. After the 2nd autocross, I really just couldn't believe how far it was from the old ones. Perhaps once you get away from the violence of autocross (the immediate slaloms & transitions) and move into the (I assume) smoother world of track, it's not as noticeable? I know that my expectations are too high and that's 90% of my problems with the car but I seriously would not have expected that statement. Have you had one out on track or is that just from seeing them & talking to people?

You need to apply silicone based lubricant down into the window rail, use the straw like applicator to get into the rail and downward, should take care of it much longer term.

I have driven an Si on the street but not the track, (I have driven/ridden in about a dozen previous Sis, including full blown race cars and for the past ~10 years, they've sucked big time) but I do remember a fellow instructors student getting a completely stock one around much faster than most students were in his group (Elises, M3s, etc). Guy was even on regular tires, good stuff. Maybe they're not all that great, but it sure seems like it's several orders of magnitude better than the previous gen Si (I did track that one), that car was a complete pile, and an utter disappointment in every way. I was almost as underwhelmed as the first time I tried to accelerate in an S2000. :/

Re: Steering. FWD steering sucks. If you've got any substantial amount of power going to the front wheels, it muddies the steering. The EVO 8/9's steering is fairly numb and the signal/noise ratio is not good. It's a very fast rack, w/little damping, so you do have some feel, it just sort of buzzes in your hand also though. This is where M3s and 911s (and 944s) shine, there's no replacement for it. Conversely, WRXs (any Subaru) really suck, ditto for brake feel. I enjoy WRXs because I think they're happy cars, unique, etc. but as far as a "driving" machine goes, rather underwhelming. If you want a sports car, few other things will cut it. If I were you, I'd play it safe and get an e46 M3. Fairly cheap, fairly reliable and decent to drive.

Besides the NSX, S2000, RSX Type S, and Integra Type R, this is probably the only other honda I appreciate.

i dont understand how some of you people cant find cars at a good price.

you can just look once every 5 weeks and expect to keep up. cmon now. you gotta know how to find cars. you cant find a wrx wagon..?? lol.

shoooot i found one, didnt even repair it, and sold it for ~double my money.

yeah, i had to drive an hour to get it. but twas worth it

I guess I should have specified stock and/or adult owned with a manual. I've only found one clean one and it was an auto. I'm waiting for Spring to roll around and I'm sure it'll be a bit easier to find one then. I just started looking at the wrong time. The available subaru market here literally dropped by 75-80% after the first snow. Then again, I passed a nice e36 M3 on my way to SC today....

Rule # 1 search @ 200 miles + a good car/price is worth the drive. I got mine for 4k under private seller price from a dealer in sc.

based on the talk in here, i think i'm glad i'm one of the dumb schmucks who don't have a strong opinion about cars

i have no particular hate for honda in general and that civic above looks just fine to me (not zomgthat'sawesome! but not zomgit'ssoboring! either)

seems stressful

Hey look, more Civics that performance and fuel mileage wise are comparable (or worse) to the Civics of 10-15 years ago.

Also, the styling looks horrible. It's like they took the current styling and made it thicker and taller. Who wants a sedan to be unnecessarily tall and chunky?

I also am not in the market for a new car. But I do understand Honda's marketing strategy as a successful company and not as much of a fan boy pocket rocket in disguise producer.

How are they doing around the world. I too am upset that I have to look towards the Hyundai 2.0t and Toyota ft86 as the only semi-affordable new fun cars. They too are overweight. Safety standards are just killing go fast now a days. They still do make a great do it all crotch rocket. I was pissed though when their 1000rr burned oil in large amounts from the factory

Honda plans to partially not suck anymore... In 2015.

(Confirmed info, not rumors)

2015 Civic Type-R
2 liter turbo
> 280 hp
Quad exhaust

Goal: to be fastest FWD car around the 'Ring. Current fastest is Renault Megane RS Trophy with 8:08, and the Civic has almost broken that record.

That will make it faster than several supercars and performance cars from the 90s and 00s, including BMW Ms, Vipers, Ferraris, Lotuses, Porsches, E92, 1M, Skyline R32, and more.

And most ironically, faster than the NSX (8:16) and even the NSX-R (8:09)

Expect almost every manufacturer to have a 2.0 liter turbo direct injection engine by 2016 model year

In the us the Acura brand made some decent cars but there isn't a single honduh I would buy now. When I was a kid I looked at civic sis but that's about it...
