Where do you guys/gals order yours from? I just got a free 30 day trial pair and I'm loving them so far...

I get mine from my optometrist. He constantly gives me free solution, and if I'm on my last pair at my appointment and they're old, or I had one rip, he gives me free ones.

I have, what I consider, a high perscription and I'm not entirely sure I could get it anywhere else. I have no complaints. Besides, he'll take my insurance. Places like 1800contacts are "out of network", or not accepted.

1800contacts. I am in the top 1% of nearsidedness.

They can also ship to WalMart now.

I use to get them from my eye doc, he said 1800Contacts would be cheaper...they are by about 20%

I usually go through my optometrist. Never really found a huge price gap that was worth more than the convenience of getting it that day at my visit.

I usually get mine through opticontacts.com. I have astigmatism in both eyes and my doc doesn't stock my prescription in torus so it's both quicker and cheaper for me to go elsewhere.

I call several places and get their price and then order from 1800 Contacts. Unless anything has changed, 1800 Contacts matches other stores' prices and has free shipping. I usually get mine for about $100 for a year (12 pairs of 1 month lenses).

I got mine at sears. They price match. All I had to do was print off the lowest price I saw for the brand they recommended for my eyeballs. Then I was able to be within my insurance limits.

i've had success just making up optometrist infor with 1800contacts, has anyone had similar experience with others? i don't need to spend $100 for them to tell me my prescription hasn't changed and how to put in contacts.

HALP

I'm supposed to wear glasses 24/7 but I don't, so I was thinking about contacts. But I'm scared. Some people hate the dentist, some people hate needles... for me it's the eye doctor. I used to be scared of touching my eye, the thought of things in my eye, and I could barely even use eye drops. I know I need to man up, and it's gotten better over the years, but any suggestions for first time contact lenses/tips on this eye fear of mine?

Help me tdub I want to see!

just go at it head on. I HATED anything near my eye and the first few times I tried to put in contacts it took me awhile After a week or so it was fine. No tricks or anything, it just takes some getting used to.

2^ I got contacts in the eighth grade, and I used to be terrified of messing with my eyes, but now I can poke my eyeball, change contacts, put drops in, all that stuff with no problem. It just takes some getting used to.


And 1800contacts calls and leaves messages with eye doctors, if no one calls back with in a certain amount of time they assume that the rx was approved and send them out.

I fucking hate my contact lenses, and I just got new ones which are barely better than the old ones. I have a horrible astigmatism so my choices are very limited, sucks for me

I've heard Sam's Club has insanely cheap contacts and you can just walk right in. You don't need to be a member.

No prescription required for them to process. They state they need one in the FAQs, but there is no place to put a doctor's name in the ordering process, and they never call you. I know, I know... But I have gone to the eye doctor than probably all of you will ever go in your lifetime, and I dont like how the rules have changed. I end up running out, and cant get an appointment soon enough.

Save on lens takes a couple weeks in my contact orders. But its better than the alternative. I think the yearly eye checkup requirements for contacts is a scam.

It is required in order to get prescriptions for contacts to go in once a year. You can get around it slightly by reordering before your prescription is up, and push it closer to 2. But if they are following the law, it is every year.

I understand the thought process behind it. Too many people leave their contacts in their eyes when they sleep. Very very foolish. Causing lots of problems.

I have mutant eyes that do not have any ill effect from sleeping in them, and the multiple eye drs over the years were surprised that I slept in them given the lack of the normal problems caused by it. I've slept in my contacts routinely for 18 years.

The only reason I've put off lasik is the lack of hassle with only taking my contacts out once or twice a month.

but yeah most people can't do that.

^^is that a NC law? B/c (until this past December) I hadn't gotten a new prescription since 2007 and that was in NYC.

I take my contacts out every night, they just bother me too much. And if I'm playing video games for anything over 20 minutes I have to take them out as well...they're just miserable.

My prescriptions always lasted a couple years. I mean...the doctors would put from 1/07/05 to 1/07/07 on there...and they glasses stores always followed it. And I went often...bad habit of sitting on/breaking/losing glasses.

Finding the actual law is difficult, but according to one site I went to, NC prescriptions for contacts expire after 1 year of issue. That means obtaining them after this date without a legal prescription is illegal.

My wife and I both go to different eye doctors. My eye doctor works at one of the best eye care hospitals in the world. They only write 1 year. They will not fill a new script without me coming in. My wife's office does the same thing. they wouldnt even tell her the prescription over the phone after it had expired and she had thrown away the boxes (she wont make that mistake again).

Ahhh...I've only had glasses. Don't know why there would be a difference...but I'm definitely far from an expert.

pardon my ignorance, but what kind of problems does it cause? I've been doing it for years with no effect (as far as I can tell, anyway)

Some eye doctors are cool with it, but mine would kill me. You increase your risk of certain corneal disorders as a product of reduced oxygen and moisture to the eye. I could probably deal without a leg, or an arm, but not my vision. I dont fuck with that. Plenty of companies sell long term contacts that are more permeable, but you'll still find a lot of doctors that dont want you to wear those (mine is one).

Best thing for you to do is discuss the risks with your eye doctor and get their opinion. Personally, I like my contacts to be fresh. I use Cooper Vision Proclear, and they dont wear on me even if I am up for 24 hours.

I've had my current pair in for 3 weeks straight, just took them out and I don't see any rings.

^^no need to get defensive, I'm not trying to argue with you. Just generally curious. Most people I talk to can't leave their contacts in because they dry out their eyes or make them uncomfortable. Being that I don't have these problems, and my contacts supposedly have 98% O2 permeability, I'm just wondering if I should be taking them out nightly.

Obviously, I know I probably shouldn't be leaving them in there for quite as long as I do. Probably will start taking them out at least weekly.

+1 for mutant eyes, I guess.

inflammatory bumps under the eyelid (my wife gets this if she sleeps in them even one day)
corneal hypoxia, which can lead to pain, corneal swelling, hazy vision, and other issues.
infection from dirty lenses.

I'm lucky that I seem to not be susceptible to any of these problems, and have been trouble free sleeping in my contacts since I was 15.

I imagine this won't last for ever, and as I get older, i'm guessing it'll just be more uncomfortable, and I'll be forced to take 'em out for that reason. When that happens, It's lasik time!

So i opened my last pair the other week. These contacts im using now are great, i have 0 eye irratations, i take them out every night.

I want to order maybe 4 or 5 more sets to last me the rest of the year until i get a job. Any websites i can order from that will not check the prescription info?

I used to be able to do the same until I had my surgery. Now I can't even nap in my contacts because my eyes will dry out. Fuckin' sucks.

touching my eye used to freak me out too, but you get used to it. buy a magnifying mirror so you're able to see your eyes better. it makes a huge difference in putting contacts in/taking them out for the first few times.
