I'd actually like to see either Chicago or OKC win it all just to have some fresh faces as champions. I absolutely do not want to see the Lakers, Celtics, or Spurs in the finals.

Thats the match up i'm hoping for, but I also think it's going to happen. The spurs have been kind of a surprise this year, but i'm not quite buying them being a dominant team.

the lack of size on the heat will be their downfall. I don't see them getting through to the finals, much less winning it against the Lakers. Will one of the two (screw bosh, he's useless as a leader) decide to step up and take over a game in the playoffs if the other isn't hitting their shot?

Bulls in 6 over an injured and tired Lakers.

I've only lived in a city with one of these teams so...go Grizz! Thank you for giving me reason to watch the playoffs.

I've been thinking the Spurs are going to win one more title before Duncan retires, but maybe not this year.

the celtics might not make it out of the first round and certainly won't make it out of the 2nd. If by a miracle they make it to teh eastern conference finals, they don't stand a chance vs the bulls or magic. If they somehow get lucky and end up playing the 6ers and hawks then they will be destoryed in the finals.

^^ in 3 regular season games:

@ Chicago, L 99-96
@ Chicago, L 93-89
@ Miami, L 87-86

Bulls have a much better overall roster - but three extremely close games, two of which Miami completely choked away.

well I'm sure this 76ers heat series will sure be something to watch! maybe the east should be punished by only having 6 playoff spots, ah well at least the nets might develop in to a decent team in the future now if deron williams stays

I don't know why people like ^^ think the East is so much better than the west. There are 3 western teams out of the playoffs that are better than the pacers including a team with a winning record. Lets break it down by playoff teams

The top 4 seeds in each conference are great teams. I don't see how you could say the heat are tougher than the lakers or the magic are tougher than the thunder etc. Boston is not the power they used to be not becuase of age but because of the trade.

New York is better than Denver by trade and Portland is just as good as Atlanta.

The two conferences are more even than ever.

Very exciting playoffs, pretty much anything could happen. There's no dominant team and there are plenty that can pull off upsets. Bynum's knee is obviously a huge factor and has a great chance to derail the Lakers.

Stay out of the playoffs thread if you didn't watch any basketball during the season. The 76ers are actually a dangerous team. The Heat SHOULD sweep them...but I would be surprised to see Philly take a couple games.

I honestly think the Bulls are the best team in the league right now, but other than Rose, I don't think the rest of the team is going to step up.

To me it feels wide open to me

I just think Wade and Lebron are going to go off in the playoffs. All they need is the other guys to make just a few shots and they should make it to the finals. I think the young guys at OKC take the battered Lakers in the West Finals....then shit the bed against the Heat in the finals.

The strength of the Bulls all season has been their depth. It's huge in the regular season to have a great bench like Brewer, Asik, Gibson, Thomas, etc. They have almost no weak links in the rotation.

That doesn't really help you as much in the playoffs when other teams shorten their rotation though. You really want elite talent in your top 6 players rather than a well rounded, deep lineup.
The pareto principle applies as well since about 75% of your wins can be attributed to your "big 3" in the playoffs.

Here's an interesting table that demonstrates how important your top 6 are in the NBA playoffs.

http://arturogalletti.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/ma-pl-2010.png

Noah and Boozer are great and Rose and Deng are very good.

The Heat on the other hand have slightly more elite talent and all they need is for 2-3 guys to step up and play well in the playoffs. Haslem coming back is huge if he can give the Heat anything.

^I think he is...which is just idiotic.

Great first game though. face is right about shortened rotation and it taking away the strength of a long bench.

Tough matchup for the Bulls as well because of Indiana's size. From all spots on the floor Chicago is a great rebounding team. Indiana definitely takes away that advantage.

I fucking knew Hansbrough was going to be a good NBA player and it makes me sad.

Ha...Chicago might take every game in this series by 30+ after this. What a deflating game for Indiana

Haha...watch the faces on the Indiana bench players (most notably mcroberts) when Rose hits that floater. It's like they already knew the game was over (up by 2 at that point). Priceless.

Miami Cheat win off of a missed charge followed by wade kicking young and getting a foul called on young. Wade had at least 7 fouls.

Miami was lucky to pull out a win period, don't know what game you were watching

nevermind, apparently you werent watching due to thunderstorm shit, so you didnt realize that Philly was up 31-19 after 1 and despite Miami outplaying them in the 2nd and 3rd, they still almost won

he gets calls (and no calls) like no one else in the current NBA...that said, if Philly brings this effort in every game, they could easiliy push this series to 7 games

He was good this year but clearly not on the same level as Howard, Love, Lebron, Wade, etc

If Denver gets to the NBA Finals, will everyone finally admit Carmelo is the most overrated player in the league?

Dude in both those posts I said Rose is clearly not the MVP. And he's clearly not. Look at Dwight Howard, he's miles better than Rose. Rose is specatacular and I love watching him play, but anyone with any sense knows Howard is DOMINANT and would take him over Rose if the goal was to win.

Considering the Nuggets have been the best team in the league since they got rid of Carmelo Anthony, it's really not that farfetched to envision them in the Finals.

OKC is a great team too now though and they have homecourt advantage so it's not like they're a lock to get out of the first round.

Love was clearly better than Rose this year, btw.

Most Valuable Player: The player that has generated the most wins for their team.
Player Team Pos G GS MP WP48 WP
Kevin Love MIN 4.5 73 73 2610 0.458 24.9
Dwight Howard ORL 5.0 78 78 2935 0.398 24.3
LeBron James MIA 3.1 79 79 3062 0.361 23.0
Chris Paul NOH 1.0 80 80 2865 0.350 20.9
Dwyane Wade MIA 1.9 76 76 2823 0.302 17.8

OKC is better for several reasons. #1 they can give all of shitty Jeff Green's minutes to Harden now (who is obviously way better than Shitty Jeff Green). #2 They replace their shitty big men with a productive big man like Perkins. #3 They can play Ibaka more and Ibaka doesn't have to do everything by himself down low anymore.

The Thunder are clearly contenders this year because of that trade. It has more to do with Ibaka, Green, Krstic, and Green than Perkins though. Perkins hasn't played well since he got to OKC (Nazr has been better actually). He's just a lot better even when he's not playing well than Green and Krstic.
