I don't know, but I wouldn't be shocked if that stereo cracked the six-figure price point, haha. What in the hell someone wanted with such a beast, I'm not sure (although I do love some MartinLogans).

Speaking of which, here are my MLs:

I just got the Motif center channel in and mounted up. I want to recess the wiring and power supply into the wall behind the speaker, and put another electrical outlet behind the right-hand Vista. I don't feel like sawing any walls or doing any drywall or paint work today, though. That's way down my to-do list at the moment.

^^Seating position is set back about 10'; it's also totally irrelevant due to them being set as far apart as I have room for already.

Well, maybe not totally irrelevant, but there's nothing I can do about it.

^ ...so what do you mean with respect to signal processing?

something like this: http://www.alpine-europe.com/p/Products/processors14/pxe-h650

that can correct for phase issues and equalization issues caused by room characteristics.

Most mid-end receivers at least do equalization (Yamaha uses YPAO, Onkyo uses Audyssey, etc.).

oh ok, yeah I don't run separates or anything, but I have the most awesome receiver that Yamaha makes (Aventage RX-A3010). I don't use the automatic room compensation features, but I have gone into the menu and set up the distances from all the speakers to the listening position.

Also, the room basically has no back wall--it's open from the living room into the kitchen/dining area.

I would recommend giving them a whirl.

They make a huge (positive) noticeable difference in my experience, and you can always disable it if you don't like the settings it chooses.

hmm...the rx is mounted in my bedroom closet, not the living room. i don't know if i can even get the mic into the living room from there without having to run it through the wall.

Hey all, I was hoping for some quick Home Theater advice.

I currently have this, speaker system in a box, 1000W system.
Sony HT-SS370 Surround Sound Home Theater System
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-HT-SS370-Surround-Theater-System/dp/B0035ER1QE

And I was wondering if this Onkyo 660W was an improvement?
Onkyo AVX-290 660W 5.1 Channel 3D Home Theater System
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Onkyo+-+660W+5.1-Ch.+3D+Home+Theater+System/7079076.p?id=1218829005810&skuId=7079076&st=Global_Sale_Home_Theater_20130201&cp=2&lp=7

I like the speakers can be used separately if I want to further upgrade components vs. the whole system and I know total watts isn't the end-all-be-all of speakers, just looking for a suggestion if I should go with the Onkyo or keep my current setup?

The AVX-290 I got on sale for $150 a couple days ago and it has DTS HD and a lot more inputs.

Decided to cancel and keep my Sony HTIB, I actually quite enjoy it. The Onkyo isn't like most HTIB, it's actually a versatile receiver that allows you to upgrade the speakers and sub, most HTIB have some sort of proprietary connection, like my Sony, it's a single proprietary HTIB system.

I'm looking to upgrade my speakers for $200-$400 not including the sub. Currently using the crappy speakers that came with a HTIB about 7 years ago.

My receiver: Onkyo TX-SR508 http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-SR508-7-1-Channel-Theater-Receiver/dp/B003BEDQQW
I'm using a 5.1 set up with the other 2 channels being used for a second zone.
My sub: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4315667&cm_mmc=EML-_-Main-_-WEM3634-_-tigeremail3634&SRCCODE=WEM3634C&utm_source=EML&utm_medium=main&utm_campaign=WEM3634

Was looking at this Klipsch set: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Klipsch+-+Quintet+5.0-Channel+Home+Theater+System/5888124.p?id=1218703207213&skuId=5888124

Any advice is appreciated

are you more concerned with listening to music, or surround sound for movies?

^^ More for movies and sports. I will use is for music too but not as much.

The towers would be nice but I don't know if they would be in my price range.

Anyone have experience with Outlaw Audio?

I'm thinking about their smaller sub:

not familiar with them or that sub, but that seems like not very much power for a sub, even a small one.

i haven't shopped for this sort of sub, but i'd be inclined to spend just a few bucks more and get something with a lot more amp power, and from a very good manufacturer:

oh-la-la

I could see myself spending an extra few bucks for those extra few watts. Similar dimensions too.

Thanks

DefTech usually makes good stuff. You'll want that extra power in the sub. Not so much to make it louder, but for tight, controlled bass.

Nice. Everybody with a half-decent job ought to have a set. That's a legit set of speakers without getting silly on the cost; music is a whole different experience on something like that vs some bullshit crappy speakers.

Klipsch Reference series is exactly what I was planning to buy before I stumbled onto a killer deal (55% off, due to being a recently discontinued model) on my MartinLogans (which still ended being double what I had planned to spend, but I couldn't pass it up.) Regardless, I would feel equipped perfectly fine with those speakers; if I had to pay any normal street price, that's what I'd have.

So...I've still never messed with the automatic room compensation. I have manually input settings on the rx for speaker size and for distance from each speaker to the listener, though. My concern is that the auto settings typically make dialogue too quiet on TV/movies, and then when you bump up the center channel to correct for that, it upsets the balance of everything else.

I have decided to upgrade the sub in my home theater setup as its the worst piece left. It is a phillips from an old home theater in a box system so its not really very good. Figured Id at least ask for suggestions in the 300-500 dollar range. My center and front towers are klipsch and I have been happy with them.

Looking at the one that goes with that series because it will match but would like other suggestions. http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-R-10SW-Powerful-10-Subwoofer/dp/B00MH42BBI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1448051017&sr=8-2&keywords=klipsch+subwoofer

Polk Audio PSW505 12-Inch Powered Subwoofer

That's what I've got. I'm a fan of it and would buy another if I needed another sub. Stuff falls off my walls occasionally and it rattles the dishes in the kitchen, but that's what I want from a sub.
