"You know, this is a really good idea and I think it's a fair suggestion.

A Lifestyle forum could contain things about fishing, cooking, home-decor, gender-specific talk, Q&A about Lounge-worthy topics that have more to do about Lifestyle (travel, home, sex, health, cooking), et cetera. It seems to make plenty of sense to me. There will be an argument this overlaps with The Lounge, and it does somewhat, but the Lounge is really more about serious non-political discussions, whereas I think Lifestyle could contain some threads that otherwise might end up in Lounge yet have a more light-hearted tone and content, such as the recent Cast Iron Cookware thread. That thread is a good example, because it relates to cookware and cooking, and is less of a serious discussion and more about users relating personal experience and taste (lifestyle, at least to me).

Lifestyle can be more topic-driven discussion than chit-chat but with more moderator presence, and with a tone closer to the Lounge. Some might want to place it closer to Entertainment, but our Entertainment forum has proven to be closer to a "media entertainment" forum than anything, not the classical interpretation of Entertainment to mean Lifestyle and Art (as it might in a periodical), et cetera.

I think it's a justified addition to the forums, moreso than "Girl's Talk" or "The Kitchen"."

Quote :
"
And I agree that a fullfledged girl's only section would be over kill. A "Lifestyle" section for cooking, gender topics, health, fitness is in demand. The most active threads are the Beach Body, What did you do today to get into shape, Shop, and whatever cooking thread is in use.

Diversifying the forum by adding an additional "Lifestyle" type of section would, in my opinion, open up traffic to the site. Its clear to see that fitness and fashion (given the recent dress and related threads) can be strong drivers to get people to log this site, especially if there are vast ways to communicate about something they like rather than subscribe to a jumbled mess of one thread."

Page 3 Lifestyle forum forever.

I'm not suggesting this as an opposition to the Girl Talk forum (partially because I know it'll probably be in Site3 anyway), for the record, but I do think in discussing Girl Talk we have had the means to talk about about a Lifestyle forum being needed as well.

First off, take a chill pill merbig.

Second of all, I think it would not be a problem to post about what we wanted in a place that specifically mentioned not to be a fucking creeper or there would be consequences. Case in point, the beach body thread... A point was made for people not to go crazy with update pictures and what not, or qfred would lay the smack down.

And this:

Quote :
"As for guys being creepy and PMing you girls, get over it. I personally don't do that shit, but if you're going to post without thinking, then just deal with the consequences."

When that happened, iirc I posted a pretty tame comment. And still got a PM asking about it. It was fucking creepy and uncalled for. THAT is why we don't like to make threads and try to keep it contained.

It would just be nice to be able to post in a section that was monitored for creepy activity (or at least what you can monitor for), and where we can post a new topic for all the different things we talk about. Of course it won't all be serious because we joke around and whatnot, but it would eliminate many of us feeling awkward or having to seriously consider putting something up. Key example on that last statement - at first I was really scared to put up a picture of my MAKE-UP from my boudoir photo shoot because I was afraid some creep would turn it into something outrageous or basically just be a dick.

I know you can't eliminate all the assholes on the internet and all the creepers, but when a section is monitored for that type of shiz I feel like it fosters more user activity because the lurkers will be more likely to post.

I think we stay in one thread because guys usually stfo of it. If we start making threads for every category, then usually guys come in with their cute little comments and side track shit. I dont want to browse through pages of guys telling me I shouldn't spend my money. I think this has been proven in majority of the threads we have recently made. If it was up to me, anyone with an M next to their sex wouldn't be able to post in our section

Why don't we add a separate section for black users while we're at it? Or how about a separate section for handicapped users? Don't forget the parents, the pet owners, or the homosexuals.

The point is that the Wolf Web's message boards are differentiated by the subjects being discussed, not the anatomical circumstances of the people discussing them. None of these topics you all have pointed out as examples demand special treatment. They'd fit in fine in the Lounge or Chit Chat. There's not even a common thread beyond "here are some things we think girls would like to talk about."

No one's getting bent out of shape about it, they just aren't convinced that there needs to be a separate section for females. There are some sections that could be added (like a Lifestyle section, as has been mentioned), but there doesn't need to be a separate sub-forum specifically to talk about clothes and menstrual cycles, or whatever it would be.

Yeah, I was behind this until they started twatting up chit chat

And after they actually listed the reasons they want a ladies' forum, it's pretty obvious that 100% of the discussion could happen in the lounge

lol @ the Kitchen comment

for real though, I'd love to see a cooking forum. Lifestyle seems like a decent name for it as well.

Let the girls have their own thread but allow guys to post in it until they make jackass comments and get banned from that forum, like if you were to do stupid shit in the Old School or Lounge sections. Maybe it would also keep the gay threads out of CC too (which would be a blessing in itself).

So why can't this be in "The Lounge?" Really. Honest question. Omar is pretty good at putting a smack down on people going off hand and telling them to STFU.

Quote :

This proves my point more than anything. Put in The Lounge and put a smack down on the creepos. Maybe I don't venture into "The Lounge," but I don't see any creepy things and what not.

I think it's pretty much understood that if you want to troll, be a creep and post bullshit, you do it in Chit Chat.

And I'm sure that if Omar misses something, you can always PM him and he'll rectify the situation.

The Lounge still gets responses that are sometimes inappropriate, IMO. And honestly, it's nice to have a ladies section because then we're (SURPRISE) more likely to get responses from a female, aka someone we would like advice from, without getting a bunch of extra crap thrown in. When I made my thread about night terrors and posted a picture of my bruise (on my leg), the first response I got was from a dude asking if I played soccer. I'm not saying that's creepy, but still... it would be nice to just have a little space where we can have our stuff in a singular space.

I REALLY don't understand the Lounge argument because you could put a few other message boards in there, imo. Plus, like bottombaby mentioned somewhere, the dudes already really have their own sections when you think of Sports Talk, Tech Talk, and The Garage. There might be a few ladies here and there but I would say most of them get trolled pretty hard or people rip apart their responses.

We just want our own section because, YES, it would contain different stuff. Where is the harm in that?

So all of this is because you don't like the fact that men will respond or you won't get the response you want? Get real. This is an Internet forum where people discuss. Just because you don't get the responses you want or like, doesn't mean a whole new section needs to be created.

What you people seem to be asking is for a section to be ruled by an iron fist, which IMO, completely goes against the structure of this forum.

Grow a skin and ignore the stupid comments. All you're doing is dividing one section into two, and the one section is already "slow" as it is.

All of your complaints and commentary are contradictory. You want pertinent responses, yet you still want to screw around. You want creepos to stay away, you can't stop PMs and them from reading the section. You don't want trolls, we have The Lounge. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Yes, the forum has "Sports Talk" and "The Garage," but neither of them cater to a specific gender and each one has a "welcome all" attitude. You want a gender specific section with a "welcome some" attitude. Anyone can post in your so called "men" sections. And I know, you will argue "but men could post too!" But you know full and well that any guy who goes the slightest off topic you all will shout and holler and anytime you guys go a little off topic there will be crickets.

Not to mention, where is the demand? What's stopping you from making threads in "The Lounge?" What's stopping the lurkers from posting in threads that you make in "The Lounge?" Lurkers are just going to lurk.

I see a lot of blame being pointed at us men, when I see no effort by the women here to even post in "The Lounge." You're not even willing to try it. You blame us men, but did it ever occur to you that the lurkers are too shy to talk about their crusty, bloody and slimy vaginas? That's why I'm saying if they're not going to post in "The Lounge," what makes you think they will post in a ladies section?

I think the guys that are against this must also be thinking that there wouldn't be enough womens-only content to constitute the need for another forum, which hasn't been outright stated yet. As in, everything girls would want to talk about could be contained in a few threads.

Girls, I think if you sincerely want a forum just for us, you need to address this issue as well.

Ok, there are NO doubt some creepy mofos on here (women included) But if that's the creepiest response you've gotten on here then maybe the problem is you. You had a bruise on your thigh, brusies on thighs tend to happen playing soccer. Maybe the dude thought you might have something in common and wanted to strike up a conversation. Maybe it's an odd angle to use but hey, some guys have different stratigies. Just be lucky the first respone wasn't "I'd beat it up".

Way to take that comment the wrong way. That is not even close to the worst/weirdest comment I have received. My whole point was to show that The Lounge doesn't equal a serious response. And for Ernie, I was wondering if any guys experienced night terrors but it honestly seemed like the most annoying/repetitive answers I got were mostly from guys. :\

As for merbig, my answers are not contradictory. I think for some reason you're just totally against the idea and I don't think many of us get the hate. None of you have still answered this simple question: what is the big deal about us having our own ladies section??? For some of you to say it would divide the site is unreal.

And L-O-freaking-L at the "welcome all" attitude for Sports Talk, etc. Please.

Anywho, I have said what I want to say. Nothing ANY of us ladies say is going to change the minds of a few of you, but ya know what? You also don't own the site. So I'm not that worried about your opinions. That may be a snippy thing to say but when it comes down to it, the person we need to make our case to is not any of the recent posters bitching about it.

IMO, I think there would be plenty of content to fill that forum. It might not be a new topic started every day, but I'm pretty sure many of these forums don't have a new topic started that frequently. I will also say I think I know some lurkers that would be willing to post there.

I know geeze. Those sports talk posters frequently hurt my feelings. I know what we need! We need a separate adder sports talk section! In that section no one is allowed to hurt adder's feelings.

Why shouldn't we have a "minority talk" section or a "homosexual talk" section?
The real question is why the fuck do we need to segregate the forum because certain users take themselves to seriously and talk about personal shit in chit chat. Why would you think you wouldn't get inappropriate comments when posting personal details about yourself?
The question you might want to ask yourself is why do feel the need to post personal details about bikini zone maintenance/ night terrors on TWW? When I want serious info about something personal the LAST PLACE I WOULD LOOK IS TWW.

Neither would your own section. The point is that the trolling, self-pleasing assholeness, ect does not happen in "The Lounge." Some of the ladies on this site are just as bad as the men. What makes you think a ladies section would be serious? There's nothing wrong with a harmless little joke, and if you think a ladies section would be run with an iron fist I think you would be disappointed.

Quote :

Well... Letuce see:

Sounds like your already admitting that your own forum wouldn't garner serous answers from some of the ladies as well....

I guess the big difference is that you want a section that excludes a specific selection of posters from posting based on gender.

Quote :
"what is the big deal about us having our own ladies section???"

Answered that with:

Quote :
"All you're doing is dividing one section into two, and the one section is already "slow" as it is."

And adder hit the nail on the head. If you're going to get insecure about men making a few jokes about your vaginal nastiness then you really shouldn't be posting that type of stuff here to begin with...

Merbig coming with a lot of blind and ignorant hate ITT

Lol at people who say a forum for women wouldn't get enough activity, when garage and tech talk have shit threads that date back two weeks ago on the first page. You people know how much women can talk, right? Or has TWW really denegrated to being a majority of neck beards already

Here's how things stand:

1 - there is a demand for a lifestyle/women's subforum
--related threads that would be made are discouraged and slated to be integrated into OFFICIAL topic threads (Lounge) which not only hampers overall discussion but leads to overall loss of information when a useful post is buried under 3 pages after a week
--threads in chit chat about a serious topic have close to zero chance of staying on topic and are trolled into oblivion
2 - female lurkers actively lurk, but are intimidated from posting by the actions of guys on here, most or all of which originates in Chit Chat threads.

A lifestyle forum which could foster significant female and special topic interest without having to worry about high levels of OFFICIAL threads could lead to higher forum activity. A level of moderation similar to Sports Talk, Entertainment and Tech Talk to keep topics troll free would go a long ways to make it a successful addition.

Could Lounge absorb it? Possibly. Lounge can fit nearly every other topic on TWW. Lounge is absorbing more and more thread topics these days. Do we really want to simply label Lounge as a catch all area? It isn't specialized, and as it stands many of my friends avoid it simply because they assume it is boring or has nothing going on in it. They instead stay in Chit Chat because funny shit is in there. Lounge has no definition, whereas if you have a specific forum that encourages say, cooking threads, a lurker could be all "hey, I'm interested in that" and check it out. Using Lounge as the catch all forces interesting ideas to be put into official threads, where people who do not subscribe daily (and I mean daily) will never see it.

Is this a moderation problem? I don't believe so. These issues deal with overarching topics that could have their own whole damn website. The beauty of official threads comes when you have say, a trip to Las Vegas. Trying to find an apartment in Raleigh. You're moving to Fayetteville. You got a speeding ticket. Lounge official threads do not deal well with complex topics that would make up the majority of Lifestyle. Lounge also is great for say, landlord trouble, topics where your issue needs specific advice. Or your dog is acting out of whack and you're not sure what to do.

Opponents, it seems, think that Lounge is fine to cover so many extremely different topics at once that I don't even want to type just a sample out.

What the hell is wrong with diversifying this website to encourage unique, specialized, and most importantly new traffic?

[Edited on May 28, 2011 at 7:03 PM. Reason : vh]

I also will point out that a lot of the active women are premium members. Do we really want to piss them off by disregarding so harshly a suggestion to improve the site? Let it also be known that it is not only women who have wanted an additional thread. Plenty of male weight lifters alone would LOVE to have threads for specific issues.

This argument doesn't really justify a women's section, but rather justify getting rid of the garage. I think Tech Talk gets enough news and activity, but the "OFFICIAL" threads really kill it.

Quote :

There is a demand by a small number of people.

You make a point about the "OFFICIAL" threads. You blame it on the nature of the lounge, but really, I think the blame lays on the nature of people thinking they have authority to create "OFFICIAL" threads, and then you mix that with the moderator's and user's stance of WTF WE ALREADY HAVE A THREAD ABOUT THAT RAWWWRRR! But do you really think there wouldn't be "OFFICIAL" threads in a woman's forum? What about "OFFICIAL DRESS THREAD!" or "OFFICIAL PERIOD THREAD!" or "OFFICIAL SEX THREAD!"

Quote :
"female lurkers actively lurk, but are intimidated from posting by the actions of guys on here, most or all of which originates in Chit Chat threads. "

Why put serious topics in Chit Chat to begin with? I mean really. Nobody answered me as to why the women shop thread is in Chit Chat. You can't blame chit chat for chasing off women when women make serious topics in Chit Chat. You blame the women because they should know better.

Quote :
"Do we really want to simply label Lounge as a catch all area? It isn't specialized, and as it stands many of my friends avoid it simply because they assume it is boring or has nothing going on in it."

But too much specialization leads to dead sections and a feeling of being overbloated and simply overlooked by the majority of the users (how often do you check Study Hall? Classified? The Garage?). Instead of the women saying there is a need, why not start by showing there is a need?

For instance, 3 or 4 threads a month about womenly topics is hardly proof of there being a demand for a women's section. However, 3 or 4 threads a day, then you're onto something...

Seems to be that your queef with The Lounge isn't that it's a catch all, it's that people take it upon themselves to create "OFFICIAL" threads. There's nobody stopping anyone from creating a thread about a specific topic that is contained in an "OFFICIAL" thread.

I think it would be fun to change things up for a bit. Everyone complains about it being boring and dead and how the same people are just posting over and over. If you want change you gotta try new things, kids. Honestly, participating in the "ladies movement" was the most fun I've had in a long time on this site. Maybe I will be less timid in the future because of it, even if this is a man's forum.

Threads in Lounge are closed constantly because they fit the material of an official thread. It is the nature/law of TWW in general, but specifically the Lounge. A more specialized forum allows for specialized topics rather than being lumped into an official thread. Mods themselves are enforcing the rules, causing the need for expansion. Educate yourself on how TWW works.

Women's need for a forum for expansion has been covered already, read the thread. At the same time, I'm not saying they need their own forum so why are you arguing about that. Read my posts.

Not going to respond to the rest of your ignorant crap. This isn't soap box, so take a breath, educate yourself on how TWW works, read this thread for an explanation of the platform of a Lifestyle forum, and come back when you aren't arguing just to argue by ignoring the logical points we are laying out for proper discussion.

Because Omar is a douche and idiots who think they're more important than they really are make "OFFICIAL" threads?

You still haven't explained to me how a Lifestyle section would prevent "OFFICIAL" threads. Go look at "Tech" talk and tell me how many "OFFICIAL" threads you see.

You have an iPad Thread, Android Thread, iPhone thread, New computer build thread, Windows Phone Thread, stupid tech people thread, Folding@Home thread, Chrome OS thread, E-Reader thread, Tablet thread, Google Innovation thread, HDTV thread, Microsoft innovation thread. And this is only on the front page...

So how is a separate Lifestyle/Girls section going to stop that? Granted, some of the "Official" type threads make sense, but others do not.

It's not a listed rule... Mods moderate the section in any way they see fit. This is why you see threads in FF with people calling for an end to, or restriction of, "OFFICIAL" thread.

But, it is funny that you're telling me to educate myself on how TWW works... So the "rules" state that people are to keep discussion in all "Official" threads if one exists for the topic?

So why did mytwocents make a thread about the iPhone when there is a dedicated iPhone thread?!!!??? Not to mention she's a woman, and that has been described as a "man" section by the ladies of TWW. She obviously needs to be suspended and the thread locked for not following the "rules."

Where is the need? What evidence is there of it? Again, instead of saying there is a need for it, it helps if they show there is a need for it, and that means stepping out of the woman's thread and creating topics in The Lounge. Damn, if they over run the Lounge, then there would be an obvious need.

You guys don't even know what you want. At first it was a "Health & Fitness" section, then it was expanded into a "Lifestyle" thread.

I think TheDuke already covered a Fitness & Health section:

The biggest issue to me that I have seen in this thread is that women don't know where to put threads. They want a relatively serious discussion, but they put in Chit Chat? Then they get Chit Chat replies and then people come into FF and bitch about the inappropriate replies? I mean WTF. If I had cancer and I put in Chit Chat, I would expect pictures of dick cancer and sarcastic remarks. I wouldn't come to FF and demand a cancer section.

Yeah I'm not reading any of that, sorry. I've said what I need to say and am not here to argue semantics.

Here's an example of a user who regularly comes to TWW for a single topic. I think it would be pretty great to get more quality, contributing posters like this who would see specialized threads they enjoy, and are given more opportunity to participate in them

(Disclaimer: I don't know the person, or if its an alias, or if the posting pattern extends past page 1 of the search.)

I just don't see how a "Lifestyle" section would foster anything more specialized than a "home brewers" thread. It would only be a matter of time until someone would start a "home brewers" thread...

And a thread about home brewing is definitely a niche topic. The only way to break that up IMO is to actually make a "brewing" section.

And nothing is stopping SoundBoy4 from participating anywhere else in any other thread.
