Yes. Let me know how that goes. I love coconut water. I love coconut. Would love to suck on this post-workout, but not with 30g of sugar

I'd suggest using so delicious unsweetened coconut milk. It's great, low carb, and you can add some stevia if you want. I might try this.

Raw almond butter was much better when in the fridge. I'll keep on buying it.

^ Coconut milk wouldn't be the same effect as coconut water though.

I am definitely going to experiment with this. I'll let y'all know how it goes

I am in love with Trader Joe's honey Greek yogurt; it's delicious, and I have one for breakfast on most days. But they just got in some pumpkin-flavored Greek yogurt, and I was suspicious but tried it anyway. It was terrible. The flavor was too artificial and too heavy on the cinnamon, and the texture was more grainy than smooth. Overall, do not recommend.

So for the regular Greek yogurts they offer:

honey > apricot mango >> strawberry >>>...>>> pumpkin

"Trader Joe's recalls peanut butter tied to illness

WASHINGTON -- The grocery store chain Trader Joe's is recalling peanut butter that has been linked to 29 salmonella illnesses in 18 states.

The Food and Drug Administration and the federal Centers for Disease Control said Saturday that the store's Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter, which is sold nationwide, is the likely source of the outbreak. The agencies are investigating whether any other items sold at the store could be contaminated.

More than three-fourths of those who became ill were children under the age of 18. No deaths have been reported."

I got the rosemary olive oil asiago a couple of months ago for the first time and kept forgetting to review it in here. OMG! I have found my new favorite cheese. I am normally a goat cheese lover but the flavors mixed together are amazing to my palate and I can actually afford this cheese.

I eat edamame as a snack often and my favorite after trying many different venders is the trader joe's shelled from the frozen section. I never get that burnt bean taste that I often get from other venders.

Also, our kids eat the TJ version of gogurts for snack time. 10 carbs per tube is pretty good and the yogurt is organic. I think they taste pretty good and I can't eat the Yoplait gogurts because they are too sweet.

you know why they don't taste delicious. nothing to do with genetic modification. it's because they pick them while they're still green then treat them with ethylene. same as all produce

Most all of the tomatoes from the Farmers Market are conventionally grown/GMO tomatoes.

I dont hear you people complaining about how bad those motherfuckers are....perception vs. reality.

Bottom line is that people are so goddamn gullible and stupid that they'll believe anything that any hippy with a facebook account posts.

and other people are so goddamn stupid that they'll go on a crusade against anything that might be perceived as being "liberal" or "tree-hugging" or whatever. most people who try to say that GMO's aren't harmful (or mmgw isn't real) fall into this category.

(and just like global warming, I really don't know what the truth is. there's no way I or most other people could know. but I'd at least like to be aware if I'm eating them. I hope most people can at least agree that false advertising is harmful)

oh yeah, i wasn't saying you're stupid, or even wrong regarding GMOs.

but my main point for posting that original article was to call attention to false advertising.

I totally agree that "false advertising" is wrong.

I think people should have the right to know exacly what they're eating.

But there is a LOT of false information being put out by the anti-GMO crowd and people eat that shit UP (pun).

I work in regulatory affairs for a crop protection company and see the scientific studies that are performed and the EPA registrations/regulations. So yes, I may come off as biased. I'm not "anti-organic" by any stretch of the imagination. People are more than welcome/encouraged to eat organic. It can't really "hurt" physically" to eat an all-organic diet. I just get fired up at false accusations by the anti-GMO folks that GMO's are destroying us, lol.

But it's more than the "healthy/unhealthy" thing for me. In the end, it's about sustainability. We simply cannot sustain the rate of our growing population on the SHRINKING amount of arable land that is available for farming.

Without new innovation in crop protection technology, more and more people will starve. Period. Would you rather someone in a dirt-poor (pun) country starve to death instead of being provided with a GMO tomato/corn/rice/soybean that was altered to grow more abundantly in their poor climate/soil conditions?

^^thanks for that, and i agree that some GMing is necessary. And I don't know if it's harmful or not, although I'd bet that in at least some cases, it's no more harmful than "natural" food.

Yeah, to each his own. I wont hate on someone who wants to eat all organic and is an informed consumer. But they should know the truth about how their "organic" food is actually farmed. It aint as "natural" and "clean" as they probably think haha. It grosses me the fuck out actually.

For those (not saying Bullet or anyone specific) that may misinterpret this as tomatoes being genetically modified…it’s not. Genetically modified and genetic mutation are different. They stumbled upon this when they were searching for an answer to a different question. It’s a naturally occurring mutation of a gene responsible for photosynthesis and chlorophyll production as well as the sugar and color. They also engineered the gene and added it back to the mutant tomatoes, which gave them a dark hue like you see in heirlooms.

In an L.A Times article, they were not able to taste the tomatoes with the engineered gene due to USDA regulations. What they do know is that, when they tested the sugar contents of the two varieties, the one with the engineered gene has more sugar than the mutant ones. Carotenoids have more to do with the flavor of tomatoes and not the sugar content. But this only suggests one of many reasons why supermarket tomatoes tastes the way they do.

Good post Bobby Light and I pretty much agree with you.

Also, this is a good (even if it's obvious to most people) point that some people don't realize:

Quote :
"Most all of the tomatoes from the Farmers Market are conventionally grown/GMO tomatoes. "

For whatever reason the idea of buying locally (which is great, I grew up on a small nursery and produce farm so I fully support this) has become, somewhat, tied to the idea of eating organic/natural foods. The two are most definitely not tied to one another.

This was circulated about a month ago and pretty much more or less what Im thinking on the subject too.

A Liberal's Defense of GMOs

Now don't get me wrong. I understand where my liberal friends are coming from.
I share the same desire for a safe and healthy food supply.
There's a LOT that disturbs me about the state of food production
and distribution in America.

I think Monsanto is evil, that patenting seeds and suing farmers is unethical, and
that some GMO crops (like Roundup Ready Soybeans) lend themselves to
irresponsible herbicide and pesticide use and cross-contamination.

But I'm also not going to let my anti-corporate sentiments get
in the way of a diverse and promising field of research.

When genetic engineering is used to decrease pesticide use,
to add nutrients to crops in malnourished countries, and otherwise
improve the quality of our food products, then it's a valuable
tool that can contribute to a safe and healthy food supply.

very interesting, thanks for posting.

these parts stood out too

Quote :
"3. GMO's are radioactive, cause cancer, and/or are bad for the environment.[?]

This is a trickier question to answer, and I'll be the first to admit that we need more research into the long-term effects of GM products. But I'm going to bet that the answer turns out to be something like this: some GMOs are safe, and others are not. Lumping all GMOs into the same category is like lumping all fertilizers or all pesticides into the same category. Genetic changes are only as dangerous as the proteins they encode for -- just as in any plant. Consider how many "natural" plants have genes that produce poisons and toxins."

and

Quote :
"Personally, I think the GMO scare is a distraction from far more important issues going on in the food industry:

-- A factory-farming system that's abusive to the animals we raise and results in unnatural, highly-processed meats

-- An obesity epidemic resulting from subsidized corn crops and unchecked fast food marketing

-- A glut of "natural and artificial" flavorings, sweeteners, and colors

-- Lack of access to quality produce in urban "food deserts"

If we really want to do something about public health issues, then these are the problems we should be focusing on. I'm not going to object to something that could have a positive effect on the world's food supply because there's a chance that something I eat might give me cancer ten or twenty years down the line.

That risk already exists. I'm just as likely to get cancer from the un-modified, but highly-processed foods that are already in the market."
