"I feel like the goal of this show was to pack as much shock value as it can into an hour and use horror as the platform. I guess the story of 2 plastic surgeons wasn't a good enough baseline to shock people into what you can put on TV. The child actors are pretty bad and the camera work makes me want to stab out my eyes. I hate when the camera zooms in quick and then zooms in again then it fucking zooms out and then it changes angles 40 fucking times argh. But I'll keep watching dammit.

The makeup is awesome I must say."

Yes!

I'll keep watching though. Just because God, McDermott has so much David Schwimmer "DURR HERP DERP" expression on his face all. The. Time. Just a constant state of "......buh?"
Oh and lol at The Virginian referring to her daughter as "the Mongoloid."

Just got done watching the second episode. Still not sure what to think about this show, but I'm in it for a few more episodes at least. It's entertaining, if nothing else. Great cast too.

Jessica Lange's character might be the most puzzling of them all ... seems to walk a fine line between dead and alive -- like some sort of medium.

This show is very weird.

So the creepy kid patient is the Victorian's son I guess?

^Yeah I was thinking he's her son too. He's gotta have some kind of supernatural abilities or something though... in last night's episode he "disappeared" right before the intruders came in like two times. Either that or he's a ninja. Is it possible that he's the one that was in the gimp suit?

I don't think he was the one in the gimp suit. I think he is just a ghost/supernatural like the other ones are. More interested to figure out who the other two children are. Assuming one must be one of the people in the basement.

Yeah, I pegged the Kurt Cobain kid as Constance's son. He's definitely got some sort of supernatural quality ... might even be some sort of demon. He turned into something wicked in the basement when he was scaring the shit out of the high-school girl.

Anyway, no Dylan McDermott ass last night was definitely a plus. Could've used more hot maid pleasing herself though

^I'm not sure if the kid actually turned in to the ghost thing in the basement or if he was just holding the girl there while the actual ghost/demon/whatever invaded her mind. The weird thing about it is that the dad was talking to the guy's parent on the phone (obviously not the neighbor) so maybe he was adopted or something.

OK so the pilot was terrible, but the second episode is deeply repulsive...no show outside of maybe Criminal Minds fetishizes violence towards women more. This show is everything that is
wrong with the horror genre wrapped up into a giant pile of steaming shit.

Episode three was alright. I was pretty shocked by the ending.

I guess the maid stuff implies that she's a ghost because she didn't receive a christian burial??

Not even close...it's supposed to be scary and tense and instead it just makes me angry. Don't get me started on the dialogue which seems to be comprised entirely of clichés.

^^^ Easy solution: Don't continue watching something that you find repulsive.

I love it-- entertaining, scary, shocking, sexy, original

^^I could see how someone would think this show is all of those things except original...it's aping a bunch of prominent Horror films in fairly obvious ways (Don't Look Now, Rosemary's Baby, Psycho, Twisted Nerve and Fatal Attraction all come to mind).

^ I'm not familiar enough with each of those movies, but I'll take your word for it.

I think it's fairly original for a television series. Each episode feels like a self-contained horror movie. Also, there are a ton of clever little touches (e.g., references to early medical procedures, psychology, pop culture, etc.). I particularly loved the use of the 'ghost tour' to highlight the history of the house in episode 3.

I really like it so far, definitely entertaining. The whole maid part was great when the wife caught the husband yelling at her and then the discussion that followed.

The quick zoom ins during every scene are still there. I can't stand it. This trend must die quickly. If you can't see it then you must be blind.

This show is not original. I was a big fan of Nip/Tuck for the first two seasons (and 3rd yes I admit it). These guys are washed up and are taking ideas from Nip/Tuck and bringing it over to this "NEW" show. The whole alcoholic doctor/scientist has been done to do death by these people. All I see now is rehashed ideas with different actors.

American Horror Wut -> Nip/Tuck Instant Watch -> Profit$$$$

So any horror that involves pregnancy is aping Rosemary's Baby?

It's not even the child of satan and Dylan probably isn't even in on it.

Sheesh.

The pregnancy combined with a pushy neighbor who may or may not be in league with evil most certainly is aping Rosemary's Baby.

After enough variables are changed (Impregnated by a homosexual ghost and not satan, husband seemingly not evil, pushy neighbor seemingly not concerned with the baby, etc.), shouting "Ripoff" becomes silly.

"Every story has been told," yadda yadda.

It has yet to be seen I guess. The baby isn't even a primary storyline at this point.

The jump cuts in the pilot were some French New Wave shit.

Not working at all.

I never claimed this show is exclusively a take on Rosemary's Baby, it's just one of a number of different films this show is stealing elements from.

OK fine.

The show stole the concepts of pregnancy and an antagonistic neighbor from Rosemary's Baby.

You win.

So I guess it has to be a shot for shot remake to be considered derivative. Next you're going to tell me they didn't steal the score from Psycho for the stabbing scene in episode 2.

I feel like this show is gonna be one of those ones that never explains anything. It's just gonna keep going on and on with the WTF moments and the viewers will continue to tune in hoping to have some of the mystery solved. They explained a bit of the maid story, but nothing on Constance, the gimp, or the teen basement boy. And the acting and dialogue of the husband and wife are borderline laughable. Even though I am disappointed with a lot of the show so far, the reason I keep tuning in is because I believe that it has a ton of potential to be a great show.

^^Maybe it was a fucking homage? Jeez. All things that are "derivative" aren't maliciously attempting to steal from their influences.

^I think pretty much everything will get explained.

Um the dude isn't an alcoholic. In fact, nothing about the show implied that he even has a history of alcohol. I the guy who built the house was an alcoholic but he is hardly a main character. The only thing it's shown about the main guy is that he has infidelity issues.

And btw for those of you that didn't know, the show is supposed to be paying homage to a lot of classic horror movies, hence the music from Psycho and the pregnancy thing. It's not ripping off anything. The creators have said this outright.

I am actually really enjoying the show so far, as disturbing as it is.

But I keep coming back to the same question...

Is this going to be a one season show? I can't imagine how it can go on much longer than a season.

only way I could see more than one season is if they treat each new season as its own "story"

So next season would be all new characters?
