From a friend of a friend's facebook page. I don't think I've ever seen a more pretentious, holier-than-thou post on facebook before.

This is only the beginning of the exchange since I took the screenshot yesterday. I was honestly thinking of just posting her name with it so you guys could troll her, but I'm still on the fence about it.

Lol at 9/11 being just a NY tragedy even though the Pentagon was attacked and the hijacked plane that crashed in PA was probably headed to DC, right?

there are a ton more posts on it now, but i don't feel like taking them off there and putting them on here.

it's unbelievable.

remember guys, Pearl Harbor was a Hawaiian tragedy, not a US tragedy.

^ I thought of telling her NYC should have gone to war then, not the rest of the country.

She seems like a really self-centered new york prick. Probably why she gets called a "damn yankee" down here in the south. I wonder if she even realizes other places were attacked on 9/11.

i was in dc when it hit the pentagon. it wasn't new york's tragedy. it was dc. it was PA. it was every single person's family's tragedy, the survivor's tragedy.

there were people from different countries all over the world. it was theirs too.

it's sad that this person is such a self-centered asshole.

oh man, somebody doesn't agree with all of the bullshit attention-grabbing and grief-masturbation that a large proportion of the country is going through

better post that person's personal info so she can be "fucked with", that sounds reasonable

Yes I'm sad about it too, but I'm a hell of a lot more sad at the intense spiral our country has gone through as a result of its insane, racist rage and the aftermath of said overreaction. 9/11 was a lesson in how even justified anger can destroy you if you have no self control and no ethics. White Christian America got caught with its pants down and everybody got to see how morally and intellectually empty it is

Of course it's sad to remember the loss of life, but if you seriously cry over every tragedy of this scale or larger you'd be in tears constantly, especially if you counted anniversaries

What point does the grief even serve? At what point is it a "patriotic duty" to stir it up? It's almost impossible to reflect on 9/11 without thinking about the dark period in our history it's taken us down as a result, but most of the people bummed about 9/11 don't even acknowledge this (or any anti-US criticism)

it's a legitimate psychological problem for me. cody can verify.

oh yeah and she points out something funny, which is that the majority of people from these hucklebuck NEVAR FORGET red states didn't give a shit about New York City before 9/11 (there were even successful advertising campaigns built on this fact). Suddenly NYC gets attacked, people see it as an affront to their pride and sense of safety, and they get all blubbery. Really?

QFT...

I understand where Joie is coming from, though. Hell, I was driving home today and it just kinda hit me.. I started thinking about all those convoys (like I previously said), the soldiers we never saw again at my family's business, my future BIL going overseas multiple times, seeing panic in my high school (being across from a significant military base after an event like this was pretty terrifying)... And then thinking of all the families are those directly impacted who are hurting so much.. I don't know, it just got to me and I started tearing up. Ten I started holding back tears at something someone actually said ITT - the terrorists really did win.

And I can also sympathize with Joie for crying a lot thinking about April 27th (meaning in depth thought, not just a quick memory) will always bring me to tears

i want to point out i'm not saying this wasn't a terrible and horrific event and worth crying over or anything like that, but the country gets whipped into this state every single year. Do you honestly think it's not political at this point?

I had a similar reaction today. Not to mention the dozens and dozens of thousands of families overseas who mourn lost ones as a result of this as well. All of the death and suffering that resulted, not only on that day, but for a solid decade afterwards. Ugh.

No I am definitely agreeing with that, McDanger. The sentence I quoted from you is actually one of the best statements about 9/11 I have read so far. :/ It's very sad but very true.

^ I find myself not watching the news more and more because I know I'll probably cry at way more things. Hell, I cried when my fiance's shitty roommate left his dog in a crate without water in the garage (that has no AC) for like 12 hours

I moved him inside after said roommate left

It's like how someone might constantly pick on their kid brother or sister-- but then when the school bully jacks them up for their lunch money, you will beat the ever living fuck out of him. I would argue that this is more analogous to how the rest of the country felt about NYC after 9/11.

That said, I completely agree that 9/11 set a series of events in motion that triggered our country to begin destroying itself from within.

I used to post on a message board that doesn't exist anymore, but at the time of the attacks a guy who posted on there had posted not to long before the plane went through his office in the towers. Then a girl who I went to school with for many years was in the Air Force and at the pentagon when the plane hit there. She survived though.

It's kind of hard for those of us to forget, who knew people that were at the locations where the attacks were.

What makes me most sad about 9/11 10 yrs later is that we are still in a pointless war adding to the 9/11 body count.

9/11 was sold to corporate whores and nasty politicians. That ONE day will forever be etched in my mind, I don't need a holiday for it.
