I saw that a few days ago and was disappointed. Yes, the technical aspect of having 11 cars drag race each other is beyond cool, but the mismatching is disappointing. If they went to the trouble, they might as well have selected cars which all matched each other (in terms of class and performance). They should have done:

gt-r
458
r8 gt
sls amg
lfa
z06 zr1
gt3 rs turbo/gt2/gt2 rs
mustang
cayman
1 m
evora
gallardo lp560
vantage v12
viper (yes, i know it is out of production)
xkr-s (?)
mp4-12c!!!

Damn that GT-R is impressive, especially for the price, I've always been a fan. And the Evora is all types of dissapointing.

^this isn't a serious test, but in the real world, you hardly get a chance to see each of these cars lined up against each other one on one, but now you know the results if two of them were to race head to head, which is pretty cool. It's just for comparisons sake, they could have included 50 cars and it would have been even better, but that's getting rediculous. But I am surpirsed there was no Lambo.

^ yeah i have seen that, and considering the quote below, i bet it can do lower than 10.9.

Quote :
"A 2010 911 Turbo was tested 0-60 in 2.7 seconds with the PDK transmission by Car and Driver magazine. Road & Track tested the 911 Turbo S and achieved a 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds."

OK, looked on wiki and found it; 10.8!

They pretty much knew how that was gonna turn out- but I bet it was still fun to do

(and I say that assuming they were planning on the flying v formation, with the predicted fastest cars in the middle and getting slower down the line)

I know for a fact my lineup would have been slightly different, probably closer to what Opie listed

They also ran all these cars around Laguna Seca and the Z06 dominated the field. Over 2 seconds ahead of the 2nd place car I believe (Italia).

yeah zo6 is like an old ferrari.

Any yahoo can drive one around the track but it takes a pro to cut a fast time where a ferrari these days an amateur can play with at the limit nearly as well as a pro can.

Z06/ ZR1 would be my track day choice... but for a daily driver/ street toy... the GTR or a 911 turbo would be ideal... AWD and ground clearance allow those two to clear curbs and corner well.
Not to mention launch HARD.

Grip on old airstrip < Grip on proper drag strip with prepped surface.

Kinda explains why the AWD GTR was able to get such a great head start on the faster RWD cars. Then again, most of our cars live in the street, so prepped tracks don't have much bearing on the performance we'd experience in the real world.

997 911 Turbo's have been clocked at sub 3 0-60 and 10 second quarter mile times over and over. I don't think it's a fluke.

And if the 911 GT2 RS had been included it would have beaten them all* without launch control and a standard 6 speed transmission.

*to 150 mph

So no one bothered to update this last year with the World's Greatest Drag Race 2? The third one just took place yesterday.

For trap speeds and power/torque, see the videos. When cars are tied for elapsed times, they are ranked according to trap speeds.

Here is World's GDR 3
http://www.autoblog.com/2013/08/23/motor-trend-worlds-greatest-drag-race-three-video
1) GT-R 11.0
2) SLS AMG Black Series 11.1
3) R8 V10 Plus 11.3
4) SRT Viper 11.5
5) E63S AMG Wagon 11.7
6) M6 12.1
7) F-Type V8 S 12.1
8) Continental GT Speed 12.1
9) 911 Carrera 4S 12.3 (see Carrera S in GDR 2)
10) Vanquish 12.4
11) Cayman S 12.7
12) Focus ST 14.6

I am surprised at the Viper (too slow), E63 (quick), and Vanquish (god damn slow). Hot chick driving the E63.

And here is World's GDR 2

3) GT-R 11.1
4) Shelby GT500 11.6
5) 911 Carrera S 12.0
6) Camaro ZL1 12.1

With engine sounds only

Which car was the chick driving?

Embed videos if you wish.

P.S. Wait for the credits at the end to hear individual exhaust notes... the F-Type sounds amazing!

BTW, just watching the GDR 2 engine sounds only video and she is the host... listen from 1:39 to hear her make a big mistake at 1:42
