"You are visiting a friend in the nicest neighborhood in Raleigh. Million dollar houses all around. Gated community, you gotta show ID to get in, etc.

You go for a walk at night....a car comes up behind you going slow.

This is not the same as if you are in crack central in the hood and a car rolls up behind you following you.
"

If you are in a million dollar neighborhood with a security guard, that is different.

I'm not sure what that extreme scenario has to do the 99.99% of the time people aren't walking around in million dollar neighborhoods with security guards.

I encourage you to walk around at night sometime. It's human nature to be a little more on edge in this situation.

If I lived in FL I would have my concealed carry & a sidearm, you never know when you might encounter a community watch captain walking down the street.

Oh really?

Interesting.

So Zimmerman has the right to be a little more "on edge" to then, since night time is the bad time.

See, it can go both ways.

I wonder what weird things tacolu has done in his life that random strangers coming up to him at night have asked him to do.

I bet he lives an interesting life...

LOL, no, because Zimmerman wasn't walking around, he had a gun, and he just called the cops. If he was scared, he would have done his due diligence at this point.

It should be obvious, but i guess i'll spell it out for you, but people feel WAY safer (and generally are) in cars than walking around.

I am totally agreeing with you on this point.

We can all agree that at some point, these two came face to face for whatever reason.

When they did, I think they BOTH might have had the reasonable assumption that they were defending themselves from each other.

So when the shit hits the fan, its not going to end well.

This is the most reasonable thing you've said in 40-something pages...

But only 1 of the 2 of them was accurate in their assumption.

And only 1 of them was carrying an item on their person that in most states gives them a legal responsibility to exercise good judgement.

So what happens, all other things being equal, when the person who should be more responsible makes the wrong assessment...?

^ you shouldn't feel the need to scrutinize this case on that level. Who gives a rats ass what he did on his first day in jail??

Our media does a good enough job of dramatizing things really without us having to support them.

Keep in mind if things had worked how they're supposed to in the first place, none of us would have ever heard of this case.

You can sit here and say you would react someway, but sitting in the comfort of your own home on the internet, and actually in the situation is totally different.

Just like what I posted about that guy getting shot right outside in the parking lot from my bedroom in FL.

I'd have told anyone before that how I would have reacted in that situation, ran to help the guy etc, but when it happened, I fucking FROZE.

So we can't sit here and say "Oh I'd have just sat in the car and waited on the cops to come" like some of us think Zimmerman should have done.

In the heat of the moment, we do things we might not ever think we would do.

Just because you make the wrong decision, doesn't always mean you are LEGALLY liable.

Haha, In the heat of the moment... of watching someone walk down the street.

I've probable seen hundreds of people walk down the street today. I didn't feel the need to follow, fight, then shoot any of them.

Yes, because Zimmerman shot Trayvon during heat of the moment of this "nigger" walking down the street in "his" neighborhood.

This. Whatever his intentions were coming into this thread has obviously been derailed. Shit he spent half a page railing about blacks and the way they overreact when something bad happens to "one of them" and how glad he is whites don't do that.

I am.

When is the last time you saw a bunch of white people rallying or throwing a fit in public like the black community does when something "racial" happens to them?

It gets to be ridiculous after awhile.

^ that's class based but really no different at all when it comes down to it.

And I can say with certainty that I as a white upper middle class male my whole life I can not remember a time when I've felt persecuted. Most black people can't say that, especially in this area.

And, of course, there is the fact that the vast majority of blacks in this country aren't in the streets protesting about anything.

Then goto wral and golo to laugh at all the dumb racist rednecks.

And btw, I absolutely don't care if Zimmerman is proven guilt or acquitted. Whatever the truth is I hope is what comes out. I just find it sad that people on both sides are taking this as an opportunity to show their true colors (in other words ^ this guy railing against the black community as a whole).

Because the overwhelmingly vast majority of the black community tries to make a racial issue over just regular shit happening to them.

Like the thread I made about Tyler Perry claiming he was racially profiled because he was pulled over by two white cops for making an ILLEGAL turn.

It's simply not true that the "vast majority" if the community does that. The outspoken minority does. The "vast majority" work hard to provide for themselves and their family.
