WTF is up with this guy, I realize he may be disabled or senile or both but he is going to get sideswiped one day. I've seen him down by the crabtree mall and nealry everyday rain or shine on all parts of Leesville rd sidewalks be damned. I'll give him props for his dedication, but damn, he's going to get hit sooner or later. He always is on some old ass bike with an old ass silver metal helmet.

Where do you want him to ride his bike? It's illegal on the sidewalks.

This thread would have been better if you had sideswiped him while taking that photo.

I thought this might be a thread on the guy that used to ride his bike on Falls of the Neuse every day. He was mentally ill and loved going to hang out in Quail Corners.

But that doesn't look like him from the back

I live off Leesville Rd and see this guy at least once a week. I've always wondered this myself.

OMG a guy on a bike, must take pic

then texted it to a friend, the ensuing conversation lead to the fatal text...

Ever tried to ride a road bike on a sidewalk? Even if it wasn't illegal its pretty much impossible.

if it's rush hour or something, and a bike would obviously impede traffic, no cop is going to give you a ticket for having a bike on the sidewalk

No cop is going to give you a ticket for legally riding a bike in the road.

I'm not sure there is a statute to charge for riding a bicycle on a sidewalk.

Put your phone away and share the road.

The sidewalk is for pedestrians.

So- what's the crime? Dude prolly got a DUI and that street, while dangerous, is a cool little bike ride. Those are my stomping grounds. Thanks for the picture. Takes me back home

I've been told that this guy is known as Chrome Dome in North Raleigh.

Supposedly he had some sort of accident and got a tidy sum from it.

Mostly around Leesville/540, I've seen him as far in as Crabtree.

Somebody PLEASE fucking explain to me why bicylists are given free legal reign on most roads? It makes absolutely no sense to me. The only thing that matters is the risk of collision between a bycyclist and a car vs a bycylicst and a pedestrian. I've seen both, and its maybe a broken arm vs a human meat patty on the windshield. I've come so close to clipping them so often that its only a matter of time before I love tap one of them into a light pole. This has gotten out of control. Every I know agrees with me. I could run for Mayor on this platform alone.

WHY IS IT THAT WHEN I TAILGATE PEOPLE ON THE INTERSTATE I SOMETIMES RAM INTO THE BACK OF THEIR CAR WHEN THEY PUT ON THEIR BRAKES?

So I'm suppose to give them room and go over the yellow line and veer into oncoming traffic? That makes a lot of sense. Where'd you learn how to drive, India?

you're supposed to yield until such a time as it is safe to pass the cyclist safely. share the road.

aha, Slave Famous, you would probably intentionally hit a biker after 5 minutes of driving around DC. I swear to God, the bicyclist here have fucking HUMONGOUS testicles made of steel... I've seen some bold and brazen shit in my day...but nothing holds a candle to the bicyclist here.

Shit, with some of the risks they take, you'd assume cars weren't heavy or some shit.

I hate that section between Lynn and Country Trail, no side walks and the road just drops off sharply into the mud.

and its 45mph and there are high school kids driving

i've seen 2 accidents occur at the oneal/leesville intersection, driven past many more. That road is dangerous as hell. I'm all for sharing but this guy is dangerous. It's scary enough riding my bike in Cary in the bike lanes on a 45 mph road, no way wouldn't I ride a bike on that road if a sidewalk was available. Pedestrians? This isn't a 3rd world country, maybe 2 people per mile

On a side note, the first day I took my bike for a ride while living on Duraleigh, I was riding on the sidewalk and some guy pulled out of his driveway looking left and I hit him on the right quarter panel. Flung me on to the hood. Dented his panel and hood, bike was fine as it was low speed but I'm no small person. I got up, dusted off, told him I had class and road off.

So, you have personal experience with the danger and impracticality of riding your bike on the sidewalk, but you still think this guy should ride on it?

GENIUS.

I always see him starting on Glenwood near St Marys heading toward Crabtree. He really does get around on that bike.

And yes, it's a pretty cool helmet.

you're supposed to ride on the road with the flow of traffic, not on a sidewalk.
