If you assume Facebook has 600 million people then that comes out to about 40 min per day.

I guess that's pretty consistent with my information, where a fairly random sampling of my friends spends on average close to (maybe not quite) an hour.

But you still have the problem with averages. At the extreme, we all probably have a handful of friends who count as using it over 4 hours per day. What does that really mean? Judging by their news feed, it seems pretty plausible they they're actually doing stuff and playing games in some cases, although maybe they just leave the browser open. Really, <40% of my friends spend 40 min or more per day. I'm not even really including the inactive friends.

So it's obviously very sporadic, and most normal people don't use it like the number suggests.
