Hello, folks!Your favorite neighborhood bodymassage has fallen victim to a confluence of unexpected bills and is tasked to procure a few hundred bucks on short order. One of my more valuable (yet dispensible, if need be) possessions is my beloved AR-15, so she's up on the chopping block. Anyone have a trusted pawnbroker that deals in gently-used firearms and doesn't charge an arm and a leg for loans? I've been suggested Picasso Pawn on S. Saunders, but I want to get a few opinions before I just start whoring out my little friend to sheisty pawn shops. Thanks for your time, bodymassage[Edited on May 6, 2012 at 11:15 AM. Reason : P.S. - to clarify: I am pawning, not selling.]

If you want to loan me $500 for $30 I'll certainly take you up on it. I can offer a $1000+ rifle (that will legally have to be yours in the meantime) as collateral(I mean hell, if you're serious)

Pawning is not selling

pawning is essentially taking out a loan with a pawnbroker with something of value greater than the loan as collateral. So, for example, I take my AR to a guy, he deems it's worth $1100 dollars retail. This means he'll buy it at maybe $600-700. So, I can get a loan typically up to around that amount. We write up a contract and have, say, 30 days to pay back the money and I get my rifle back. If I default on the loan, it's his and he puts it up for general sale.Typically they charge $20-30 per $100 borrowed as interest, and it's my understanding that if you can't pay the whole amount by the contract end you can pay off the interest and essentially "re-set" the whole deal.Firearms are a little different though, and due to the penalties of buying/selling stolen weapons many pawnbrokers only deal with new guns. I'm assuming it requires a background check for me to pawn the thing, and another when I pick it back up as if I was buying it for the first time. [Edited on May 6, 2012 at 11:51 AM. Reason : this is my understanding, anyway. I've never done it before]

^^Pawning is like getting a loan for collateral. However, after x amount of time, it goes up for sale.

I've got a buddy who's an expert in antique arms and armory. Let me call him and have him come down here and take a look at it.

Ray's Gun Shop in Newport is pretty legit when it comes to giving you a fair price for a used gun.

But honestly, when I go to work tomorrow I can do some research to see who in your area would be pretty good at helping you with that gun.
