Now to explain what I mean...I'm trying to make a logo of sorts, that use the letters C, H, R, and T.I have a 1.5'' square space, and it will be engraved in metal. So far I have come up with these 4 ideas, which are variations on two themes. No letter has any more importance than another. Please give your opinions/ vote on which one you like the best. I numbered them 1-4 in the picture. If you have some other idea, please feel free to share. Thanks for your time.[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 1:19 AM. Reason : .]

I don't care for 2 & 4. Just don't like that whole concept.I think I would pick #1 as my favorite.I'm not creative like this, so I have no other ideas for you. Sorry

They're all terrible. Do you see any major company logo that looks like that? Think of the Fortune 500 companies and what their logos are.
5/31/2012 1:28:15 AM
the order of the letters doesn't matter?
5/31/2012 1:31:15 AM
^ yeah, it's not really possible to determine whats good or not without knowing what the ordering of the letters mean.
5/31/2012 1:33:17 AM
gimme a few minutes in InDesign tomorrow and i'll send you some shit that blows your fucking socks off your god damn feet!
5/31/2012 1:58:19 AM
It isn't for a company. It is a personal project. The order of the letters has no importance. Each letter is the first letter of a word. These are just basic sketches. I'll use illustrator, or AutoCad to do the actual image once I figure out what I want.VV: I've done about 50 so far, and those have been my favorite[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 2:07 AM. Reason : .]

if its for a personal project, you're still gonna want a nice vectorized image for when your personal project eventually blows up into a multi-billion dollar enterprise and you want an easy format to send to people to make shirts and hats and billboards in India and stuffthat said, #3 combines two of the letters, whereas the others are clearly 4-letter designs, so that aspect is something you have to consider as far as whats more important, combining letters for style, or emphasizing the 4 different letters[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 2:06 AM. Try messing around in illustrator or InDesign so that you have more control over the uniformity of the letters. Also don't think of the letters like letters. Think of them like shapes. Its easier that way.
5/31/2012 2:06:06 AM
or if you're a cheapskate, try Inkscape
5/31/2012 2:10:22 AM
i meant Illustrator btw

that H and T combo looks silly.way easier and more aesthetic to combine H and R.[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 2:12 AM. Reason : ]

You would thing that my industiral design education at state would help here.I'm open to any of you throwing out images.I've kind of hit a block at this point, as I'm not sure what direction I want to go.So far, its all good info.^^Tried quite a few with the H and R combined, but couldn't come up with what to do with the C and the T after that.[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 2:15 AM. I'm in the ID program and they don't exactly teach you anything about graphic design. I would say to think more abstractly about the letters. They don't have to be completely recognizable immediately. Make the audience work for it. But you know what to do. Think about it as you sleep or don't think about it at all. Thats when all the good ideas come.

just get http://www.horriblelogos.com/ to make you one

I tried out a few monograms; I recommend Bank Gothic if you want to base these on an actual font.

I think all of the letters in the logo should be exactly the same size, as all four (Honor, Courage, Respect, and Trust) are equally important. You did not specify where this will go, which will really affect the fonts. If i were doing this for a corporate logo, i would do something along these lines:The vertical ones allow adding the actual words they stand for whenever you need it, and the block ones are better for something like a stamp, seal, engraving etc. These may not have the right choice of fonts for something like, say, a tattoo, or maybe even a gift engraving, where I would go for a more "personable" fonts. Where exactly will it be engraved?[Edited on May 31, 2012 at 11:55 AM. Reason : .]

CHRT is too many words to make into a logo... its even hard with 3I would suggest doing a logo separate from the CHRT and maybe have the CHRT be some minor text component.

the 4 logos in the op all hurt my eyes
5/31/2012 1:30:52 PM
Maybe I shouldn't call it a logo. I'm trying to make a visually appealing arrangement of the 4 letters.
