So I landed the new gig and they have given me an EOD of 10/10. I need to send a resignation letter through my chain-of-command but I don't go back to work until Friday (technically Thursday but I have training). I want to get it in as soon as possible because I have some floating holidays that might magically disappear if I don't go ahead and take them. Would be it be inappropriate to shoot them an e-mail with the attached letter of resignation and then have the physical, signed copy for them on Friday?

while face-to-face is better when an option, i think an email noting that you CAN'T do it in person and will provide them with a physical and signed resignation when you get back will suffice

had a guy at work turn in his the other day. It was actually very good and i've saved it for future use.

stupid question, but what does EOD mean? I would guess it has to do with a very soon start date, but then you said 10/10

Just my opinion, but taking holidays after turning in a letter of resignation isn't something I would personally do. You're basically earning free money after resigning anyway, right? I guess if your boss has a problem with it s/he can just tell you when you try it. just a thought

^^Since I'm an exempt employee working a rotating schedule, I have 10 floating holidays. They won't want to pay me for them (OT + Holiday Pay) for the 6 remaining so they might force me to burn them.

But yes EOD = Entrance on Duty and I meant to say 11/10.

yes, the letter is real...but i don't think he devised it himself, it was typed up for him and given to him to just sign:

Well here we are again. This time its a different story: I've signed all the paperwork, have a formal offer in hand and been given a start date.

Do I notify my work now or two weeks prior to the start date which is about 2 months from now? My current employer knows I'm leaving and were told by my current employer it would be around that time frame. I only pose the question because I wouldn't put it past my employer to try and say don't bother, your fired.

I just quit my job in March. I gave a full months notice and it was great. My boss basically told me to finish my current projects and just show my face every other day.

My HR department told me that since I turned in a resignation letter they had to pay me until date i stated was my last day. Even they asked me to leave they would still have to pay me. Not sure if that was just company policy or what but it was a great month.

Don't want to take any chances there...though if you're working for state government I feel like it would be hard for them to tell you to GTFO because you turn in a resignation letter.

Back in April, I took a new job starting in August 2015. I've given my current job a year and some change's notice.

I just put in my resignation letter last Friday. I also was afraid they would walk me out the door immediately but they didn't. My boss and other executives have been very understanding and want me to stay on until my end date to wrap up projects and make sure transitions and hand-offs are handled properly. I gave a two week notice.

I always give two weeks but leave a two week or so gap between leaving and my next job and take some vacation time

take vacation, return and give notice, leave 3-4 week gap between jobs for another vacation
