Go build balsa wood airplanes. This team is garbage, the farm team is garbage (guh-winn-ette; seriously? wtf is that?), the fans are garbage, Ted Turner is complete garbage, the city is garbage, the state the city resides in is garbage. Seriously, get a fucking clue.

Even worse than Raleigh, if we're comparing.

A GQ article on worst dressed!? Fuck that, I'm moving!

Once again, you live in Durham (or at least did at one time, no idea if you still do and I won't scour the Internet for your work history like some weirdo to find out). Durham is Atlanta without all the good stuff. And why this weird fascination with a place you have never lived in and probably haven't even visited? As I have stated before, I have lived in Raleigh and Atlanta for long periods of time, and while Raleigh is nice, I greatly prefer Atlanta, and it's not even close and witH Atlanta being the size it is, with so much of the population being transplants, a lot of other people agree.

I do live in Durham, and I never claimed it to be 'for everyone' as they say around these parts. I like it for the amount of attention it doesn't draw (or the negative attention and publicity that keep people away from here), and I like it for being more of a community than say Raleigh or whatever.

Second, dude, seriously, you think I've never been to Atlanta? Not to take away from the city as some sort of exotic vacation spot, but it's basically just down I-85. It sucks. I've been there plenty of times to know that it sucks. Furthermore, after knowing it sucks, why on earth would I want to live there? Come on, now...

Thirdly, this is a Braves thread, so let's talk about them. Now only up a game after squandering a huge early season lead, and I'm sure that will be dismissed over the weekend. You don't think that's pathetic?

Some people pretend they go to Hogwarts and dress up like Harry Potter.

Some people pretend they live in ATL and plan to wear Jaybee's skin as a suit.

My dream World Series would be Tampa beating the crap out of Atlanta like nearly every other AL team they've played in the post season since they've been in Atlanta. That would be delicious and amazing.

Well, as I said, a lot of people have, and are, moving here so obviously a lot of people disagree with you... And you are the one that keeps turning it away from a baseball thread...

As for the Braves, I am good with where they are with possibly their top three players missing a LOT of games, including a 6 time all-star...and that's not even including a guy that was a top 5 or 10 starter when he went out last year who isn't back yet.

I wish I could make a bet with you as to whether they're even going to make the playoffs.

For the record - you incessantly turn threads into talking about Tennessee football somehow. So whatever, dude.

If it counts, I've had friends turn jobs away from there to stay around here for less money. So make of it what you want. I'm just saying it has a pretty bad reputation with a good enough amount of the population to justify my shit talking.

No... Others turn threads into Tennessee football when they see me in the thread. And the reputation is almost always from people that think " a lot of black people?! Fuck that!" If you actualy moved to Atlanta I guarantee that you would find areas you like, and areas you don't like.

Again, if we're pointing out stereotypes, I live in Durham, dude. It's not about "black folks" as you put it. I feel like Durham is a pretty progressive part of NC, and there's certainly parts I don't think I should be in at 3am. However, I feel like it's something the entire state of Georgia has nothing to do with (progressivism, etc). Same with Alabama and Mississippi, but you're from Tennessee, so maybe that's your thing. I just don't enjoy the deep south and how backwards it is. Sure, I'm sure there's things about Atlanta I might like, but the overabundance of things I know that suck there would always prevent me from living there.

by the way - I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to say that when anybody gets on TN football or something, it's because of some instigating comment you've made regarding whatever subject is at hand, so I don't think the fault would be completely away from you there...

You would think so, but haven't crazier things happened to the Braves?

I'm putting my cash on the West having three teams in the playoffs, honestly.

See, ignorance. What you just described does pertain to a lot of rural areas in Georgia, and North Carolina, and Tennessee but not to Atlanta. Atlanta has had black mayors for 40 straight years. Atlanta also has the 3rd largest % gay population of ANY city in the country, and by far the biggest in the south (27,000 more than the next closest southern city). Thats about as progressive as you get in the south. You are just spewing the typical "Atlanta is one big ghetto" line...

If my comment, good or bad to the person reading it, is on topic, then they need to learn to defend their position and not use a pseudo straw man.

Speaking of Durham, I did see an awesome retro Durham Bulls shirt at Sweet Water brewery last night

Here's a start...
Quote :
"Summer heat and humidity.
Atlanta is landlocked – a 4 hour drive to closest ocean.
Allergies. Don’t have them? You will.
Violent crime much higher than national average.
Traffic can be horrendous, especially for those who live outside the city but work downtown.
Cycle? It’s not a matter of if you get hit by a car, but when. Not bike friendly.
Growth has led to generic looking suburbs with big box retail and chain restaurants.
Metro Atlanta is very spread out. Sometimes the different parts of the city feel very disconnected.
The business community is diffuse – there are no true “hot spots” to see and be seen where entrepreneurs and vc’s cluster, (except perhaps StartupLounge and StartupRiot).
For a city of of its size, Atlanta has very little early stage venture capital.
There is little capital. No idiot can get his stupid idea funded. Smart people with good ideas can.
Most wealthy people focus on real estate investing rather than venture/angel investing.
There are few if any visionary business technology leaders. No Jobs, no Ellison, no Schmidt, no Zuck. The leaders in Atlanta are all service providers.
There is a lack of proven executive-level venture building talent.
A lot of wantrepreneurs who talk about startups but don’t start startups.
No critical mass of startups within one field. ISS created that somewhat with multiple security spinoffs, but there are few other examples.
Some people are very status conscious and materialistic.
People wearing Bluetooth earpieces 24/7 are a common sight, more so than other cities. They look like d-bags.
Commonly seen “fashion” on men: pleated khakis, tucked in shirt, cell phone holster on hip, anchorman haircut.
Sometimes very cliquish.
The city is quite segregated (mexicans, white, black, asian, etc are in certain areas and don’t often mix).
Metro Atlanta might be a melting pot of differing political views, but come election day – not feeling the melting so much.
An abundance of narrow-minded people (as compared with San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Boulder).
City government and city schools are not very good.
Older (more established) community is motivated by “appropriateness.” If seeking entrance into this community, then need to toe the party line.
Passive/aggressive is the dominate social paradigm."

That same list with slight changes has been used for every city. Passed around through emails so people can be like "thats right! thats right! it does rain every day and then stops and then rains again!". And most of the items are up to the person to avoid. For example, I can and do walk to about 95% of what I do, so traffic has zero impact on most of my life. Now, if you are an idiot and live 40 miles north of town, then yes, you will have shit traffic to deal with...

So, back on topic. Playing the Giants today...

What a joke, someone is actually trying to convince themselves that Durham is more progressive than Atlanta, or is less segregated, or is less "deep south"?? Whoa. Someone has no clue. At all.

Regarding baseball, however, I think the Bulls could've beaten the Braves this weekend. I'll give Durham that much.

The Braves offense is putrid. Eventually some of these guys have got to start hitting though. Also WTF is up with Medlen. Dude could not lose for like 2 years and now he cannot win. Law of averages I guess...

Johnson and Upton were both just a triple short of the cycle in their returns to Chase Field. They combined for 7 hits, 2 homers, 2 doubles and 5 RBI. hahaha

Also, welcome back Brian McCann...he has been tearing it up since his return.

Typical Braves, score 3 runs in 3 games and then bust out 10 on Monday. They'll probably score twice in the next 2 games combined.

Good to see C.Johnson break out of his slump. McCann is looking like the McCann from 4 years ago.
