This bullshit ruined my last Las Vegas trip back in June.

Every hotel was overrun by teenagers on drugs blacking out and throwing up everywhere.

I can't imagine this being any fun in the states.

All I can imagine seeing is police telling people to get inside the barricades.

If I were to go to one of these, I'd go to one in a foreign land

I have friends who live in Henderson, so I don't have to worry about it. The 10 hour drive from SF to Vegas is a bitch, but it's a good idea to have a car.

Word to the wise: get a shuttle pass. And go EARLY. If you aren't at the venue by 7PM, not only are you doing it wrong, but you'll be stuck in traffic/lines for hours.

You would be 100% wrong. The cops were fine and the crowd was amazing. It's expensive, so it weeds out casual partiers and people who can't handle their shit.

Interesting.

300,000+ people attended and only 2 people died. One was some drunken idiot who ran out into traffic and another was a 22 year old chick who jumped out of 20 story window on the Strip after her moron friends let her leave the event when she was freaking out on a dirty pill. 2 people. None at the actual event.

Did any of you actually go?

I swear, some people on this board are allergic to anyone having a good time...

So anybody who doesn't die is handling their shit? Interesting.

[Edited on November 9, 2012 at 11:59 PM. Reason : Not talking shit about the event... I'd like to go if I can afford it.]

dude quit being a troll

i was responding to GeniusBoy's retarded post saying that the event isn't any fun because it's not in Europe or whatever. he was talking out of his ass- the cops were actually really nice and didn't give anyone any problems. even though it was a massive party, the vast majority of people were completely in control of themselves and were doing nothing but smiling, dancing, and trying to make new friends. i know this is a frightening concept to lots of people, but seriously, it was not just an orgy of druggies and retards.

in reality, EDC 2012 was one of the best weekends of my life and i'd encourage anyone who enjoys EDM, carnival rides, and friendly crowds of happy people to attend.

Hey man, I'm not gonna argue with you. Believe whatever you want

Most people drop about a grand to attend ($300 tix, $300 airfare, $300+hotel/food/booze/drugs/whatever), and in MY EXPERIENCE, people were handling their shit and there was little to no drama, other than the unfortunate windstorm that shut shit down on Saturday night.

This isn't some $50 16+ party/ 'rave' where high school kids outnumber those that can legally drink.

I thought about going last year, but I listed to some of it on BPM. I think it was Sunday last year that was pretty much cancelled because of high winds.

kinda wanna go, dunno if i can afford Ultra and this tho

Quote :

this is exactly how all my "normal" friends thought Ultra would be. And felt exactly the way UJustWait84 described when i left.

90% of the time it was just people standing, dancing in their own little world and just hanging out. 160k people at Ultra and I saw 1 fight. And the worst thing the medic's had to deal with was some cuts on feet and sprained ankles.

Quote :
"All I can imagine seeing is police telling people to get inside the barricades."

I also disagree. The cops and security were amazing. The only things I saw really enforced were actual dangers like Getting people off temporary scaffolding and shit. Mostly they just walked around the outside of crowds with ear plugs in and relaxed. And gave the random kid directions around the park if people didnt know where stages were. I could not have been happier with security.

I've been to Ultra and EDC

they are completely different crowds and venues, but in general everybody I met was incredibly friendly and kind.

Not liking EDM is one thing, but to assume it's just a bunch of losers on drugs is fucking retarded.

The same people that go to EDC/Ultra also like going to things like Coachella, Bonaroo, Outside Lands, Burning Man, etc.

My advice is if liked Ultra, you would like EDC 10000x times better. When you add the whole carnival/rides/art installations/ element plus the insanity of Vegas, it's probably the best festival experience you can go to. The only thing more intense in the US is probably Burning Man, but even that's been watered down over the past few years.

not really much more that will be added. it's already a lot bigger than last year's lineup, and they only added a few smaller artists last year.

definitely happy with the trance/tech acts, and glad a lot of shitty mainstream DJs like Guetta, Solveig, Will.I.Am, etc won't be there taking away timeslots from Prydz, Wolfgang Gartner, Boys Noize, and Digweed

^I have friends that go every year or who've gone often and they say it's changed. Maybe they're just being Burning Man hipsters about it, but they complain that it's becoming "too mainstream".
