still surprised that level 20 is the max. i mean i'm level 17 with 8-9 hours of gameplay. I guess the level 20 content is extensive with all the legendary/rare possible gear.

anyway I just started the Venus missions (i got stuck playing crucible for a while) holy shit is it me or are they way harder than moon/earth?

Venus was a good deal more difficult for me than Earth/Moon. Wait til you get to Mars

They've said the game doesn't really 'begin' til you hit 20, but I've heard the same thing from other MMO developers before so we'll see if Bungie can live up to it. The first Raid opens next week, and they've got 2 other PvP pieces of content opening for us later this month. The Raid requires Level 26 to even enter, so folks have some grinding ahead of them for purple gear before they can even get in. Yeah the max level is 20, but high level gear boosts it beyond that.

Supposedly there is a bug which is responsible for the low number of spawned Public Events. They should be spawning more frequently.

Also, I found out last night that you can turn each planet's collectible mat for reputation with a chosen faction. You can't go anywhere on Venus without tripping over Spirit Bloom and I had a bunch to drop off. Not sure if it has any other purpose. I know as a Titan, I can't upgrade some of my gear without the Relic Iron from Mars, so I'll be holding on to that.

Had a blast last night letting Fry carry me through the Moon missions.

On a related note, I look forward to being carried through the following events:

i'm hoping i can be a high enough level to participate in the raids when they become available.

just hitting 20 last night and starting to build up some light.

not sure if farming strikes is the best way or to find a nice little farming spot to get some gear

I had a purple helmet drop for me off a mob in the Hellmouth while I was doing a bounty. Way better than what I had on and got me to 21. I'm curious how much gear it will take to get up to 26.

Mechanically there is nothing wrong with this game but I don't really see what will keep me coming back to this long term. I mean if there was some world pvp and not just deathmatches I might be more inclined but I'm just not seeing it.

It's a bit early for me to say how long this game will keep my attention. In the end it will come down to how the endgame works, and how much Bungie keeps adding to the game/world (especially since they've mentioned it being a 10 year commitment)

World pvp would be awesome.

They could make this a true mmo if they wanted.

^I don't even need any hardcore MMO stuff, but it would be nice if there were factions that were fighting to hold regions of the map or something like that.

There's a fine foundation here in the shooting and the equipment, I just don't know that there's enough conflict for my tastes right now

what are everyone's thoughts on Destiny so far? I think this is going to get mediocre reviews, but i am having a blast with it. gamespot gave it a 6 and basically panned it the whole review and reading though ign's impressions, i think they arent too impressed either.

i dont know what it is about this game, but its a lot of fun to me.

Bungie must not have paid IGN enough if they're giving it mediocre review.

Every call of duty ever made gets rave reviews from them.

I think its not fun, but its OK. Not worth $60 to me. There is nothing to look for in this giant world, loot is sparse and unimpressive, and just feels standard over all. The voice acting is par at best. The story is discombobulating, and it doesn't make much sense. I would give it 5/10 and it worth about $30.

My wife and I are loving it. I honestly don't give a shit what any website says about it. Those places rate Madden 9/10 every year and it's the same damn game every year since 2005.

The Weekly Heroic is no joke. No self respawns, teammates have to rez you. AND it's way harder than the normal or even hard version of the Strike.

Still really enjoying this game, especially when I'm running with a group.

Crucible is interesting, it may seem somewhat barebones next to something like CoD or even Halo, but I still enjoyed it. The mechanics are there, it's just a more streamlined/basic version than we've become used to.

Unlocked the Strike Playlist last night, I could see that keeping my interest for a while. It'd be nice being able to sit down for an hour or so and do 1-2 Strike missions, get some loot and roll out.

Interested to see how post-20 leveling works too.

I'd say it's been worth my money, and as long as Bungie keeps up with events and new contents I'll stick around for a while.

Agreed.

I think Bungie is wasted making this... they should have made a competitive FPS for consoles, they desperately need one that doesn't suck.

Not saying this is a bad game, I just dont have fun killing AI or whatever this WoW loot system is.

the only thing i wish they would change is that i want to be able to talk to the other people who are in my mission or on my team in pvp without having to be in a party with them. how are you really going to have a collaborative effort if you cant talk to anyone?

I don't really understand the poor reviews or opinions of the game, but I'm not primarily a console gamer, and the FPS genre is a land I rarely tread on. I've played Halo all of twice, I've never played a Battlefield or Borderlands. I can't speak to the validity of the complaints in comparing Destiny to other games.

That being said, I'm still having a shit ton of fun. I'm 25 at this point, and after a week of playing non-stop I still haven't felt 'tired' of it. I also still feel like I've got a long way to go. I'm still 3 levels away from being able to run a Nightfall mission. Most of my gear is still blue. Still haven't raided, and I'm excited to try it out when it opens tomorrow.

I think it's a great game, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Bungie implements their 10-year plan for it.

I BELIEVE most of the complaints revolve around the following arguments (not MY arguments, but what i've seen)

its a fps, but it lacks the quality pvp of a "true" fps

then its an mmo style game, but without the communication with your team, variety of abilities, and abundance of drops (think closer to the range of ~20-30/hour)

then its an rpg...ish, but it lacks enough options to do at the end game.

which makes it a jack of all trades, grindy game.

i enjoy the game, but don't see it holding my attention nonstop. i can see playing it a few weeks, then taking a break, dlc comes out, play a few more weeks, rinse, repeat

it's not halo. you don't "beat" it. the game is about mechanics, and there hasn't been enough time for anyone to build an end-game character. you should appreciate this as a league apologist.

and that said, i got to level 20 by doing each story once, and after grinding mobs for maybe three hours and doing a very moderate amount of pvp i'm wearing all blue and have gotten my choice of basically any type of gun i want (the one i wanted was probably the last one i got; it happens). i also got a purple engram, although it did dud into a blue gun.

i didn't play borderlands or diablo 3, but compared to wow where you'd do 12 dungeons 15 times each for every 10 levels and then do 6 dungeons 30 times each before you'd be wearing all blues (which by the way would look fucking stupid), this game feels like i'm cruising. i don't know what the complaining about loot is. if i got it any faster it'd feel like i was cheating.

You can beat a game of league in >20 minutes if you're good enough.

The real question is: Is this game worth $60? I need something to mindlessly play at 4am when I can't sleep. League is dead, and I don't think playing a real mmo is healthy for me.

yeah absolutely worth the $60 for me. I just hit 23 and haven't even finished the story line.

I wish I could participate in that raid but it'll probably be another week or two before that

also I wish they kept salvage around. i enjoyed it.

Dinged 20 last night. On to Level-cap leveling (which sounds weird).

Also, I'm way behind on story missions. Anyone want to knock out all of Mars with me tonight? The completionist in me would be bothered starting up the Strike Playlists without finish the story missions.

Krallum - You can absolutely run a Strike mission (beat a game) in a about 20 minutes, get some loot, and bounce. Or if PvP is your thing you can run at least one game in the same time, also get loot, and bounce.

In other news...apparently there are clans. Why haven't we started a clan yet? You can boot up a clan and have it be cross-platform wide too, which I think is cool.

i'd say its worth the $60 to check it out.

But to put it further into perspective.
I've probably put in 20 hours into the game, I've completed most of the missions.
There are still a few side story and one final mission I have yet to complete.

They have a strike playlist that lets you play the coop missions quickly, and they scale fairly well from 1-3 players.
I'm not a huge fan of the pvp, but at 6v6 it doesn't feel crowded in the arenas.

As long as you don't mind some grinding its not too bad, but with essentially 6 classes to play, there is some variety for you. (I say 6, although I've only played warlock and used voidwalker and the sunsinger, both which play significantly different from one another)
