probably a little early for this talk

his dad seems like a pretty stand-up guy, defending gott on twitter and stuff

anybody got a pic of the big-head tyler in the crowd?

Im a fan of the way we can run when we have both lewis and barber in at the same time. Throw in Warren, Lee, and Vandy and there are a lot of options every time we get running.

Remove Lee and add Turner

Dez is not a shooter...

Also ... Word is we almost lost Tyler last year. #sources say that the staff had work overtime this summer to keep him at State.

If this is true you would be crazy to think that Lewis would be forever a backup from here out. Match-ups will determine the lineup

Glad he was able to step up when cat was having an off night.

Cat has had an off month. I dunno if it's "hitting the freshman wall" or what, but he continues to have terrible shot selection and shoot way too much. Great talent, good playmaker, needs to cut his field goal attempts in half. But Lewis stepped up today and helped us get a good win.

i'm really surprised that he went for that layup that he missed, looked like he had a guaranteed assist to layup/dunk

but he played real aggressive, knocked down some shots and hopefully pushed himself over that sophomore slump

I wish Tyler was 6 inches taller, mostly for his sake. He is a good player and he seems to have a lot of heart, but his size will always keep him from being great. He just has trouble playing defense and getting open for contested jump shots.

He's better than cat at defense.

Yeah, I said it. It's true. Deal with it.

LOL

Now, if we could figure out a way to play a decent zone all year, Tyler's playing time will continue to increase. He can't keep anyone from getting by him without fouling in man-to-man. Cat's actually solid at half court d, though he does get lost in transition.

Tyler has good fundamentals on D...he's just obviously shorter and slower. But those weaknesses are masked in the zone...which we played really well today. Only problem was that we got crushed on the boards in that zone. With that being said...I know you don't rebound as well in the zone, but a lot of the caroms were going directly to their players. And hopefully after that poor performance on the boards, we'll practice really hard on finding a man to box-out before the next game.

Props to Tyler for stepping up today. Preseason reports were that he was our best shooter in practice...so it was disappointing to see him struggle so much this year. Hopefully yesterday's game breaks him out of his slump...because we desperately need another shooter.

If Tyler expects any more playing time, he needs to get Archie Miller-esque with his 3 point shooting. He's a defensive liability, but if he ups his 3pt % and becomes a legit threat, I'd love to see him and Cat on the floor together some.

Appreciate the fuck out of this guy.

But he missed a fucking layup. (An Archie Miller-esque lay up)

Exactly. He was actually one of the reasons the zone looked so good too. He was really active and always in position, though their PG did blow by him at least once.

Offensively, Tyler has a nice pull-up j at the top of the lane. He needs to get back to using that more if teams aren't going to guard him seriously, because that shot is there all day.

I loled at this. I think the team is a defensive liability, like when the other player's teams consistently get wide open looks at threes there is an issue. By wide open i mean they literally get 3-5 seconds to shoot the ball then that means that defense needs to be the focal point. This team can play good defense but it seems like they lose concentration and leave dudes open. Its kind of strange to pinpoint the issue to just one player.

Meant to be hyperbole, but see a put literally. If you want video evidence of players getting wide opening looks at 3's then reference the Duke game if you're a masochist. There were more wide open looks than i can remember.

yeah you said literally. i won't argue with open looks, but i will argue with 5 seconds lol...that is an incredible amount of time in that context

^The dude that shot 80% from three for GT was a 20% 3pt shooter on the season prior to the game against us. The scouting report did not say he was a "stay home" defensive assignment, our team should have been happy letting him shoot threes all day.

When you think about it in context those threes weren't ill advised to let him take, and we only truly let two or so wide open three shots happen from real three point threats... and that's not terrible.

Trying to front that GT big who kept taking lob passes in the middle of the lane for easy dunks is a different story...

That Bolden dude had a wide open look in the corner some time in the second half and clanked...only to get the ball off of an offensive rebound and sit there for a few seconds before jacking it up again (and somehow clanking it again). I'd say he had around 3 or 4 seconds to shoot...probably could have had a minute the second time as everyone on our team was so far away and was like "not even worth my energy to try and contest that shot."

With the exception of Warren and Vandenberg, they're all pretty inconsistent shooters. Washington may be the most reliable of the bunch.

But they still need to keep shooting.

Cat can't shoot. Lewis is not good either, but I'd rather see Lewis taking a 18 footer than Cat.

The team is playing better since Lewis has started getting more PT. This isn't a coincidence. Yeah his defense is suspect, but he gives us better possessions on offense it seems. I wonder what his +/- is compared to Cat's in ACC play.

We need more vision than drives to the basket right now. Lewis gives us that and Gott has been smart increasing Lewis' minutes over the last few games.

I wonder if Lewis putting on 15+ lbs of muscle this offseason affected his shot? Seems like he was a lot better last year.

Either way, I never feel worried when Lewis has the ball in his hands -- unlike Cat and Dez. He might not give you a spectacular play every time, but he always makes the right pass.

Tyler Lewis is a boss. I also like him and Cat playing at the same time. I was a little worried on the defensive end against FSU last night...but even though their guards would be forwards on most teams, I don't think they were good enough shooting/off the dribble to take advantage.

Great play drawing the charge as well. If he can keep this up, we might have a chance at the tourney.

If we can rebound just a little out of the 2-3, Tyler will continue to play a ton because he manages the offense so well. He'll never be able to stay in front of his guy in man, but we just have to deal with it. Gott had to bench him early last night after Miller blew by him twice.

Back to offense though, 7-0 assist to turnover vs that defense is outstanding.

**Lewis topics shouldn't automatically turn into a Tyler v Cat debate. They coexist nicely on the court. **

The problem with playing both of them is that it gives us a backcourt with two offensive liabilities and one defensive liability. And absolutely terrible rebounding

I mean we're a bad team so outside of Warren everyone is an offensive liability. No reason not to play them together, although we really should put in Jevoni to salvage our season
