Eric Cantor has confirmed that he and Paul Ryan talked John Boehner out of accepting a “Grand Bargain” with Obama in 2011. It was this rejection that led to the sequester...

i don't understand why people that bitch so much about the federal debt act like the sequester is some horrible awful thing. it's only about 1/100 of what is actually required to get the budget in line anyways. can you imagine the outrage if politicians actually tried to do anything remotely close to being relevant to our budget woes?

^ it probably has to do with 1) the awful way it was implemented, and 2) the fact that it wasn't designed to be a budget cutting measure, but instead a political persuasion tool.

The sequester is going away agency by agency, in the order of who has the most powerful lobbyists, or how much congressmen themselves are inconvenienced. See: FAA.

If it was only a political tool that was supposed to extract something out of Republicans, it is failing.

It was a blunt hit to discretionary funding and was about 7% of the discretionary budget. Considering the debt isn't inherently a problem, and we're still in a sluggish economy, it doesn't make fiscal sense to cut a lot of the spending that it cuts. Particularly things that promote research and development.

I think that by buckling when things started to get as bad as he said it would, fail is exactly what the administration did. Obama absolutely let the GOP call his bluff, and not live with the worst of he consequences. Now, a precedent has been set that the sequester really only applies if you're poor and don't have voting power on your side.

This is literally a do-nothing congress and there isn't much any single person can do about it.

It's Obamas fault. He doesn't do a good job wrangling the congress. That is probably an area where is he was older, he might could have related better.

Obama has literally offered to compromise to positions more right than what the right originally asked for and had those offers denied

so you are dumb

You must have missed the "immature brats" part of my statement.

You also write like a 9th grader.

Dickhead is a fine word, and I understood what you were saying. I agree with you, but I dont appreciate you focusing on my critique of Obama while breezing over my critique of Congress.

Either you have poor reading comprehension skills or dont understand partisan politics, but either way I feel like this is going to be a pretty short lived thread.

Ill leave you with a better sentence:

"Obama has literally offered to compromise on positions more right than what was originally offered; these were denied."

Why would they do that? They're trying to get re-elected.

No, that was the biggest problem I had with your sentence. Im no English teacher, but I would mark it as "awkward" on a student paper.

I wouldnt count off for it though.

Of course the rest of it was awkward too; not quite a train-wreck.

Ok shitface, instead of this tit-for-tat bullshit why dont you resume your 3-word-per-day analysis of that gun control article that is so far beneath you?

Its really hard to take such a cultured 9th grader seriously.

Yep. It can't possibly be the fault of any other the other 300 people who voted for it. It certainly can't also be the fault of a Democratically controlled Senate or a Democratic President who signed it into law. Nope. The fault can ONLY be with two guys for whom I have a major hate-based hard-on

You know I was going to make a post, but sometimes just having aaronburro post the opposite of your stance is a strong enough argument.

WRONG! More accurately, See: Air Traffic Controllers. There are still plenty of us who are on the chopping block, but don't get the huge headlines. Just wait until there is a body count due to a thunderstorm and then folks will ask why they got rid of all of the weather professionals...

^ Yeah, like the douchebag congressperson who openly asked why we need the National Weather Service when he has the Weather Channel. The stupidity was unfathomable...
