maybe a better title for this would be favorite/least favorite sports so as not to offend anybody but here it goes

best: football: prob the best pure athletes in the world, very unique in terms of strategy ie play calling, tons of different skills and stuff going on at all the positions, although I do get turned off some by all the thuggish brutality (other contact sports don't need to have guys launching their heads in to one another)

basketball: pretty unique sport with the jumping and height issue, complex enough with the plays and very entertaining to watch

tennis: to people who don't really have any experience in the game I know it kind of just looks like pong but there is a lot of strategy and variety and other stuff going on in each shot

lacrosse: one sport I regret not getting in to playing, but in terms of goal sports, more entertaining than soccer and you can see the ball better than the puck in hockey

worst:

vehicle trick sports except for maybe jetskis; just race the damn things like they were meant to be,
road bike racing: kind of a roads were meant for cars guy unless you actually need to get somewhere, love biking but do it on trails, plus doped as hell
nascar style of racing: in terms of cars I'd much rather watch a real road course, and going back to point one I think racing all other types of vehicles is more exciting than the endless marathon of nascar

hahaha yeah well I wasn't talking about the fatties but they do have incredible strength and some of them have amazing vertical and 40 times for their weight, plus I'm sure their agility for having man boobs would be impressive if you saw them in person

also sports I haven't really formed an opinion on: hockey, baseball, would like to get more in to both

sports I'd like to see more of: lacrosse, other kind of racing besides nascar, fencing and competitive martial arts at the olympics besides the endless swimming coverage

Favorite: Football (soccer), Tennis, NCAA Basketball, Cricket, and Rugby.

Least Favorite: NASCAR and Baseball (only because its excruciating to watch, actually going to the ball park is a lot better).

Sports I really couldn't care less about: American Football, Hockey, and NBA Basketball

I would probably like soccer more if the best teams played here in the US. But they don't, and there are four other sports where they do.

the best pure sport out there in basically every regard is tennis. it's direct, honest competition. it's very fairly balanced between strategy and athleticism, and the top performers excel in both basically 100% of the time; you will find no embarrassing pictures of mantits on any top tennis player, nor are any of them simpletons. it's played exclusively in tournaments, and everyone agrees that the postseason tournament is the best part of every season. the four major tournaments are massive in both scale and tradition. players tend to have long careers, so it's a fun sport to follow from season to season and watch players get better and better. it's a great game to play at any skill level and it's a really exciting and tense game to watch. baseball is the only other sport that i know of where you can be one mistake away from losing and fight back to a tied up match. because of this, also like baseball, uninterrupted spectacular play, regardless of when it begins, will lead to a victory 100% of the time. it is a grueling game to play for five matches in a major tournament. it's not super uncommon to see an underseeded player jump out to a lead before eventually being crushed by the pace. like golf, you can cheer for your country or for individuals. and on top of all that, it's the only sport i know of where the women's game is either entertaining to watch or equally paid out.

This thread is about bias to everyone. When you understand and study a sport you automatically think its the best. The sport you understand the least you think is the worst.

IMO baseball is the best sport. There are so many scenarios for each pitch and the player trains everyday about what to do during each one of them.

Anything that doesn't have world class athletes is suspect, meaning everything after football, basketball, some olympic sports.

Basically, if Adrian Peterson, Calvin Johnson, or Lebron James had played the other sport, instead, would they outclass the current top players.

you can be one point away from losing the entire match and one minute later be tied with a lot of tennis left to play. that's unique to games that don't use timers. this also happens in baseball, for instance.

^ nope, only applies to sports with no time limit or turn limit. Volleyball is probably also this way.

You could be down 20 points with one out left in the bottom or the 9th, or down to match point when your opponent is up by 2 sets and 5 games, but if you play perfectly the rest of the way then you win.

In most sports it isn't possible because you either run out of time (football, soccer, etc) or turns (bowling, darts, etc)

^^Tennis is still different though because you can pretty much be sure that 45 minutes is left when you go to another set. With baseball it takes one HR and 6 fly outs to end the extra inning really quick.

This helps show everything wrong with soccer. Fans from both teams rushed the field for a 2-2 tie where the teams basically stopped playing for multiple minutes at the end of the game.

^^^Not really. With baseball you start to run out of outs. It gets pretty stressful when that happens and you are losing.

I personally think soccer is the best sport. For two reasons:

1. It's completely creative and free-flowing. You can do pretty much anything you want, adopt any strategy you like, just as long as you don't use your hands. It's the purest, most dynamic game I know. And the simplicity of game's premise gives rise all sorts of different sub-battles and strategies. There's also more opportunity for improvisation, and more creative potential in how you can improvise, in soccer than in maybe any other sport.

2. It's the most athletic sport, in my book. Because the basic rule "Don't use your hands" forces you to use the whole rest of your body. I can't think of any other sport where you'd ever jump into the air and kick your foot up as high as you can (though you could say "Xball is the only sport where you Y" about lots of (X,Y)...but the physical demands of soccer are nevertheless very diverse.) Sports are about using your body with intelligence and skill, and no other sport comes close to being as comprehensive as soccer in this regard, for me.

this is just silly. w/ a timer you have urgency at most 4 times/game. in tennis there is unlimited opportunity for extreme urgency. match point is about as urgent as it gets, and you can have any number of match points in a match. a tennis match can get incredibly tense. and also keep in mind, that these guys are playing directly for cash. one on one for $20k, and that's in an earlier round of a major. and that money is how they live. they really want to win that tennis match every single time out.

payouts from wimbledon 2012 singles, for example

Winner £1,150,000
Finalist £575,000
Semi-finalists £287,500
Quarter-finalists £145,000
Fourth round losers £75,000
Third round losers £38,875
Second round losers £23,125
First round losers £14,500

so even a first round match is for £9k. the finals is 1v1 for more than £500k. they're legitimately epic tournaments.

Tennis is a fine sport, but it doesn't have the best athletes playing it. The sport needs to be well-designed and have the best athletes to be tops.

I've never understood this mentality. Is the "best" music always played by the most technical and most accomplished musicians?

If tennis makes for an enjoyable viewing experience, why does it matter they don't run a 40 as fast as a football player or bench press as much another guy in a different sport?

One of the reasons I like soccer is because they don't have the "best" athletes in it. It's not an arms race for teams to get the fastest and strongest players to be successful. Geniuses like Messi can excel in a sport in spite of their physical limitations size-wise because they make up for it with attributes that are sometimes under-appreciated in other sports.

I mean, I agree with you. But I'm not trying to argue with somebody that doesn't like it that they're stupid if they don't. Soccer isn't for everybody.

I just think it's weird to rank sports in terms of "the best pure athletes" vs. not. If a sport is fun to play or watch, who cares?

Pure wrestling is the most athletic and difficult sport on the planet.

thats what I base a good sport on. It just creates this mentality and humility that no other sport can manage to create, because youre dragged through shit for years and years and you coe out able to adapt to anything

There are alot of things that I am good at and I enjoy doing. I never want to go through actual wrestling training ever again.

So I read this thread and I'm going to try and summarize what we seem to be agreeing on.

Best: Football (Soccer). Sure its a little slow but there is tons of opportunity for counterplay and strategy. Soccer players could play any other sport but they don't because no one in the world likes any other sport because in reality its just a shitty version of soccer. Soccer is a very complex game. Its like chess on ice except that its on grass. It's not for scallywags, people who go to pick pickins, anyone who needs a gun to protect their home from all the home invasions that have never happened to them or anyone they have ever known in their life. 0-0? GREAT It means the teams were even and no one could find the right opening. They pass the ball around for 20 minutes? GREAT. I don't have the attention span of a hamster so I'm aware of the pressure that is building. No one is running into to each other? GREAT this is a fucking sport not street fighter. Pentalties nigga? That shit is fucking nothing but wits.

League of Legends: Esports are real deal with it. 140 thousand people watched and amateur 1v1 tournament yesterday. This sport is probably too complex for people who like real sports. It involves the 3 T's- Teamwork sTrategy and ouTplayin the shit out of niggers. And as a bonus, because this sport consists of only nerds you get a shit load of passive aggresive rage and awesome shit talk on twitter. This shit almost made me get a twitter and I don't even have a facebook. That is sports.

Quote :
"Michael Santana ?@dignitasQtpie 4 May
@CLG_HotshotGG I tossed your ass into the dumpster once, ill do it again if you manage to crawl out."

Other sports don't have the same hype. Its like 90s rap beef but its between nerds playing a computer game. Shit is great.

Lacrosse: This one gets a soft mention. I think its pretty cool but only douchebags play it. It will never be a major sport because it involves running and no one in america can do that except for basketball players but they only run like 20 feet back and forth.

Fifa: Hear me out. Fifa 12 is probably one of the best sports there is. This game is literally soccer on coke. Read my review of soccer above. ^

Womens Motocross

Madden: Football is gay as fuck but madden is the shit because it ignores all of the major major major flaws that are inherent in football.

Worst
Football (Hand egg): Average football player is on the field for 7 minutes total and is running in a straight line for 4 of those minutes. The rest is literally just TV commercials and water breaks penalty review. Oh looks like its 4th and inches. Also these fuckers are like 800 lbs and 7 feet tall. That is not athletic. Football players play what like 3 games a year? They spend the rest of the time driving their hummers to pig pickins. Literally half the population watches the superbowl for the commercials. Wat. I would be so mad if someone came to a show I played to listen to the dj's playlist in-between sets and what the fuck is a halftime show? Like forreal? What the fuck does aerosmith have to do with football. NOTHING this shit is all about commercialism and trying to sell some jerseys to poor people at walmart. Field goals? That shit is some cheese.

Okay I will explain how to make football a real sport.

1) Holy shit reduce the commercials by 98%. Seriously.

2) One team. No offense and defense cheese. If you can't play your sport the whole time then maybe you are 300 lbs too fat.

3) Take off the sissy padding. You might think twice (or in the case of a football player once) before chargin into a nigga. Maybe just maybe this would cutdown on the run in a straight line cheese.

4) Get rid of all those stupid as fuck false start, blah blah blah, shit that doesn't affect anyone who ever gets near the ball rules.

5) That shit is not a ball

Basketball: I don't even get this shit. Its literally the same thing back and forth for like way too fucking long. You can literally create all of the possible things that could happen in basketball in NBA jam. Like yeah you can totally cross some niggas up but at the end of the day its either a layup, dunk or j. Look your average basketball player can't form a sentence. There is no complexity to this sport.

Nascar: Nascar is specifically designed for poor people. You drive in a circle. Rally racing is a mans sport. I could write a computer program to be the best nascar racer of all time in probably 14 hours. That shit is not a sport. A wise man once said "Let me know when you see nascar merch outside of walmart"

MMA: Its literally two dudes hugging each other to death over a belt. I'm good.

Fencing: idk if this is a sport but this shit is gay as fuck. Only girls, dudes in fedoras and weeaboos do this shit anyways.
