"So can you tell me how your version of nationalized healthcare would work?"

the most similar comparison i can think of would be France's system, where private and employer provided healthcare exists alongside universal coverage

[Edited on October 1, 2013 at 12:31 PM. Reason : and they pay less for it]

what about that cash upfront system?

a person walks into a healthcare facility to see a doctor, pays a smaller amount because they don't have 5 people just for filing insurance, and then if they do have insurance, a retroactive compensation will happen from the insurance company to the consumer.

That way you cut out the need for the educated people to be behind a desk and file insurance things.

So in this system, if I wanted to choose my own healthcare, would I still qualify for subsidies, or would I have to go with the universal coverage to get any subsidies to help? Or would the universal coverage be so cheap that I wouldn't need subsidies?

Seems to me though that it still wouldn't be a single payer system.

I want to know how he's going to pay for it beyond the typical lefty "military cuts" shtick.

He isn't even creative.

"The National Science Foundation — which funds 2,000 research institutions, including astronomy observatories, and science and technology centers, as well as millions of dollars in research grants each year — was gravely affected during the last shutdown. Approximately $120 million in research grants went unmade during that time, delaying the support of approximately 2,000 people to carry out research and education activities.

Additionally, 240 grant proposals for science and engineering research and education went unprocessed each day of the shutdown, resulting in a backlog of 3,000 grant proposals, 1,000 of which would normally have been accepted. Dozens of panels, meetings and workshops were canceled."

What a bunch of clowns. We're expected that you can't fund the operation of this site, but you can afford to keep the servers hosting the website up?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Monument_Syndrome

Cut parks, museums, and other highly visible and wildly popular services first. Then the teachers, firefighters, etc. At the very bottom of the list, there is prohibition, empire, and the rest of the shit that is actually bankrupting us.

They shut down the WWII Memorial? Wow.

I'm sure it costs them a lot more to put up barriers and station mall (pun) cops to ward people off than it would to... just let people walk around on some concrete.

A bunch of WWII vets that came to DC on one of the Honor Flights ignored the barricades and toured the memorial...good for them.

Knowing what you're talking about doesn't win elections, the ability to emotionally manipulate large groups of people does.

if you are a healthy male in your 20's your premium may increase on average, but for other groups they will likely see some savings. it just depends on who you are and what kind of insurance history you have.

This is when someone is driving to work, and there's a car coming directly at them in their lane. That's not a game of chicken. That's an asshole causing a head-on collision.

What I love is a girl I work with is a total right winger, but has no opinion of her own - her family just tells her what to think.

Her brother has a severe handicap and is paralyzed from the waste down.

She is completely oblivious that this is only helping her own fucking brother and just gets a dumb look on her face when you bring it up.
