"While rumored to drop 400lbs, it looks like the truth is more like 200lbs. "

" Here are the official numbers, straight from Ford, "pending certification." For this sixth generation, the base 3.7-liter V6 model’s power rating drops from 305 hp to 300 hp. Torque holds steady at 280 lb-ft. Compression ratio for the V6 is 10.5:1. The base V6 fastback with a manual weighs in at 3526 lbs, an increase of 30 lbs over the 2014 model. With an automatic, the curb weight is 3530 lbs, a 12-lb increase.

The GT, which uses a rowdier version of the outgoing 5.0-liter Coyote V8, now has 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of twist, up 15 hp and 10 lb-ft from its predecessor. The compression ratio is 11:1. Roll a base 2015 6MT Mustang GT fastback onto the scales and it'll show 3705 lbs. That's an 87-lb increase over the 2014. With the new automatic, the Mustang GT weighs 3729 lbs, a 54-lb increase.

In EcoBoost guise, the 2015 Mustang offers 310 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque from its 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder on 93-octane gasoline. It's a twin-scroll turbo—the first ever used on a Ford. The compression ratio on the turbo 'Stang is 10.5:1. Whether all that will be enough to win over Pony purists is still to be determined.

And what does the EcoBoost weigh? In base trim with a stick, 3532 lbs. That's 36 lbs more than a V6-equipped 2014 car. The EcoBoost automatic weighs 3524 lbs. That's a 6-lb increase vs. a comparable 2014 V6 automatic. "

Way to fuck that up Ford.

Yup. Disappointing. Heaven forbid they actually try to shrink that car a bit to a more appropriate size

I was thinking that weight was the biggest thing going in the Mustang's favor in terms of keeping up with the more powerful Camaros and Challengers. You'd think Ford would capitalize on that; especially considering the buzz around this being a "lightweight" Mustang for 2015.

They'll probably wait until it hits 4200 lbs and then drastically cut the weight to get back into the 39xx range.

press embargo ended today at 12pm. Here's a sad excerpt from Motor Trend's first drive:

Quote :
"So why isn't the new ponycar faster than the old one, or handle as well given its horsepower and torque bump and new suspension? One word: weight. The new Mustang GT weighs in at 3814 pounds, a 196-pound increase over the last similarly equipped Mustang GT we tested "

So that sucks. Looks like the weight advantage it had over the Camaro is just about gone.

Well that is what one R&T writer said. And here is what another said:

"What was a revelation on the street disappoints on the track. The Mustang GT is soft and wallows. OK, good front-to-rear balance, I can convince the tail to wag and impressed how well the brakes held up, that’s been a Mustang weakness in the past, but in this group, I feel like I’m driving mom’s Taurus."

Slower than before, and not exactly a cheap car anymore either

The new Mustang weighs more than my Crown Vic does. That's quite disheartening...

weighs just a tiny bit shy of my '66 half-ton Chevy pickup...long-bed and fleet-side (short beds would be lighter than the Mustang by a good bit).

haha, it's within about 30 lbs of an E61 5-series wagon. Oink oink oink oink.
