cop reduced it to 9 over. Is there any point in going to the DA or should I just pay the ticket and be done with it? I remember hearing that 9 or less won't affect your insurance, but can't remember if that's true or not.

the cop went ahead and did what the d.a. would do for you as long as your record is decent. it won't affect your insurance. just pay it.

it will affect your insurance if you have any tickets or at-fault wrecks within the last 3 years, or if you have any in the next 3 years.

Wake County is a bitch for getting stuff reduced, though...it will probably be difficult to get it reduced to < 9 over, and if you did, it would definitely require a lawyer (James Crouch pulled it off for me a time or two a long time ago, but he's in the slammer now). There is certainly no point in going to court yourself; the chances of you getting less than 9-over are zero.

If you aren't getting any points pay up, and invest in a high quality radar detector.

Radar detectors are for people who don't pay attention. Half the people I know have gotten tickets flying by that in assuming silver charger on the highway.

On a clear road, or at night, by the time you see that charger it's probably too late. I agree that you do have to keep a visual on the road because you never know when they'll pop you with "instant on" radar, but that doesn't diminish the radar detector's strong points.

The radar detector won't help if you are only planning to pay attention when they clock your actual vehicle. You need to be aware of how much range the detector can accommodate and know whether there's a vehicle ahead of you to act as an early warning. In addition, you should be able to recognize the headlights of all the cars you have passed while they're still in sight to know if a police car is sneaking up on you. If you're not an active user it's a useless tool, but a good one can be very effective in the right person's hands.

Hi,

I exceeded the speed limit knowing that there's a price to pay if caught, and I got caught.

Will someone help me validate my decision and decide for me what to do to handle the situation?

Thanks,
People who willingly speed and expect not to get caught.

Sorry autocorrect fucked me.

I've seen more people with radar detectors get tickets by passing undercover cops than people without them getting hit by radar/lazer.

Capital Blvd is 45 . . . . and they reduced it to 9 over (so "just" 54)? How damned fast were you going? People walk across the street in weird places, cars turn in and switch lanes without signals, etc on Capital all the time. Just hitting the speed limit between lights is sometimes pushing it a tad. I have no real sympathy, if it were I-40 or something that would be different.

^^^ increased speed from 54 to 60 for literally a few seconds to pass. Very few cars on the road, right before Wake Forest rd exit. I'm sure you've never exceeded the speed limit. And please allow me to beg for your sympathy.

fuck that. now that I am working in s.e. Raleigh I am frequently driving Crapital. With traffic I run 55-60. Without traffic i.e. weekend mornings I am running 70. Capital is a fucking racetrack.

^lol. speakin' of capital and tickets I got pulled yesterday on capital. not for speeding. for passing in the left turn lane. some fuckin geese had the road shut down at Trawick. i was in a hurry of course. as soon as the geese cleared my lane i passed the 2 cars in front of me. as soon as i enter the intersection boost has built and i roast the tires through to the other side. cop was sitting in the opposite lane. i stop in the harbor freight parking lot. he asked if that was really necessary. lol. let's me go.

The fact you even managed to get up to the speed limit on capital is a feat in of itself.

To be fair, you have a habit of bragging about illegal street racing your pontiac.

not on Capital; you might kill a hobo that decided to sleep in the middle of the road though.

You guys are thinking about the wrong stretch of Capital.

He's talking about the section inside the beltline...where it's easy to speed. Not that cesspool north of the beltline where Jaybee used to live.

I got one on capital once, on Christmas eve, in a 55 zone. Was testing a new carb tune. I told the officer I was santa, he told me he clocked me at 60, 85, then 95, then I slowed, then I did it again before I saw him, and he thought he had better go ahead and stop me. He laughed, I laughed, and he handed me the ticket (79/55) and said merry Christmas.
