So, It's been about 4 months since I bought my 2007 crown vic police interceptor. Anybody else riding around in one, scaring the shit out of people around Raleigh? I'm looking for some serious horsepower gains within my college budget. Already have a magnaflow system from the headers back, and a cold air intake. Any other suggestions?

Thick skin. The garage isn't the most friendliest of places to newcomers... That said, if you haven't already, check out horsepowerjunkies.com

1. What kind of gains are we looking for?

2. Please define "college budget." Some of us are family financed and can afford to buy a new set of rear tires weekly. Others are working 2 jobs just to finance their education. Everything is relative...

hmmm. i'd start with being less of a dipshit. cop-posing is douchey, and while I doubt there are any serious horsepower gains attainable for it on the cheap, even if there are, to what end? hell, i can't for the life of me understand putting a catback and CAI on a Crown Vic to begin with, let alone headers if you actually have them.

my advice is to take the tough love you're probably about to receive and become better for it, and don't waste any more money or screw the car up any worse than you already have.

[Edited on June 23, 2014 at 11:39 PM. Reason : ^ if you're posing these questions, you won't be doing your own heads/cam install, so it'll be $$$$$]

Very true. I appreciate you welcoming the newbie. Im working with roughly 400$ a month that I can allocate strictly to my car. The top end is really nice, but i'm looking more toward acceleration without dropping a new engine in.

And yes. I won't be doing any of the install myself. The plug in and play stuff is easy enough, and it's worked out for me so far. I see a tune up in the near future as well.

dude...save your $400/month.

...or if you're damned and determined to spend it, go spend half of it on a motorcycle.

and for god's sake don't spend it on any shit to make the Vic look even more like a cop car. that's gayer than a pink fanny pack full of dicks.

What a douché. You’re looking to scare people on a budget, how noble.

If you’re actually interested in driving, you could do quite a bit better than a 3500(?) lbs car with a live axle and a slushbox.

Sell the crown vic and use the funds as a down payment and put your $400/mo towards a faster car?

Yah it seems dumb to dump that kind of money into a car when you know you're not gonna get that $ back out of it.

76mm turbo tuned to 10psi should be 400whp and done lol.

4k in turbo 2k in fuel and you'll have enough power to blow her up

You could get it down to 3k total but the mod motors like boost.

Sell the CV and buy a Marauder. 300 HP out of the box, leather interior, and the rarity factor. It's a factory super-Vic. The work is done for you. I wish I hadn't sold mine...

Ahmet...3500 lbs? Ha. More like 4000 bone dry.

I got nothing to add. I drive an 2005 Impala with nearly 140k on the clock at work and would kill for a 2007 Vic.

I had a guy come up to my office once and complain that he was always getting stopped by the police because his vehicle resembled a law enforcement vehicle. He was whining about how the statute didn't feel the reasonable suspicion because it was't marked in a way to suggest it was law enforcement. His vehicle was a black vic, tint, two spotlights, gps antenna, and several others. I mean what the hell? He said its just what he liked.

The 8th are not. I have about 6 antenna on mine, and lights that look like there stolen of a boat trailer and painted blue. It also has a large tear in the sheet metal near the hood and a San Antonio Spurs hat hanging from the rear view mirror.

Here's the deal, partypat72. I like Crown Vics. I drive one currently. I've owned another. Plus the Marauder I mentioned above. And the 2v SOHC 4.6 that's in the Vic will respond to most power adders that can be used on an older Mustang since it's obviously the non-HO version of the same engine. So if you really want to you can loiter around the Mustang forums, or better yet head over to crownvic.net and see what the guys there are doing to their cars. You're going to get a lot better suggestions than here.

Alternately, if you're not deathly attached to the car already and you do have enough money each month that you could put work into the Vic, consider my Marauder suggestion. It's the same shape with much better details. The DOHC 4.6 in those cars is not quite as easy to build power on as the SOHC engine, but you're starting at a much better point, and then can get it to probably 320-330 with some simple bolt-ons. If you really want to step up the game, supercharge it and you're over 400 without too much trouble, but the blowers for those engines aren't cheap.

Lastly don't be a dick. Having people automatically move out of the way for you is kind of amusing (my Marauder was silver and therefore looked sort of like an unmarked) but anything more than that and you're kind of crossing a line. Likewise. Leaving the spotlight mounted? No big deal. Adding antennas to try to make it look like it's still in service? Dickish.

My old car, 2003 Marauder, Silver Birch.

Restricted come to work at wake county. We surplus at 100k miles unless it's a specialty car like our c6 zo6.

Also the marauder etc stuff is good if you are going to build the engine or not supercharge it. But if you supercharge or turbo... Both engines have the same rods (well similar) that will let go around 450whp.

Now if you build the bottom end the 4v heads make more power with less boost so when you approach ultimate knock threshold it will be higher on the 4v than the two.

If you want 3xx hp trick flow heads and a decent intake manifold and cam set will get you there pretty easy (seen 360 na on a 2v) but with labor and parts you are back to "a blower would have been cheaper" zone.

I bought an f150 from state surplus once. It was alright. I've been watching what vehicles have been selling for lately and I think people are overpaying. I also know some buddies who are in govt now and I'll never buy a govt owned vehicle again.

OP is a dipshit btw.

You're entitled to that opinion. Just seems to me to be the difference between leaving something on the car that is already there, and might actually have a use should you ever need a bright light at night, and adding something much more obvious for the specific purpose of looking like something you're not. A ton of taxis that are retired CVPI still have spotlights, you just don't notice them most of the time if they're black rather than chrome and tucked up against the A-pillar.

I mean if the argument is real life usage, lots of people use CB radios, daily, not just when it's dark. I really don't see a difference between having those two things on an ex-cop car. Hell I'd argue the spotlight is more cop-like than an antenna on the back. But then, I can't expect you to be impartial about this when you enjoy having people move out of your way because they think you're a cop.

Is it not a humongous pain in the ass having people mistake your personal vehicle for a cop car? People slamming on their brakes and slowing down in front of you until they realize that they are in the clear?

I honestly miss my CVPi sometimes, it was a great car, but cheap and go fast parts for a 4.6 2v are not gonna happen.

I had a cop try and give the "your car looks too much like a cop car" shit to me, and i had no spot light, I had Mustang wheels with 275s all around, and a marauder spoiler. Onlything that in any way that was cop like was the pushbar....

Was a great car but by no means fast, and to make it was was a ton of cash, and I worked in a mustang shop at the time I owned it, hell the upgraded 70mm throttle body made is slower cause it hurt the bottom end!

Just drive it, dont try to look like a cop, and dont be douchey with it.
