White gold, Titanium, or Tungsten? I work outdoors and I'm generally pretty rough with my hands. What you fellas got?

white gold- no if you are rough on your hands. It will scratch. gold is soft.

Tungsten- if hit right will shatter on your hand.

cobalt- check your local hospitals to see if they have the equipment to cut it off your finger.

Titanium seems legit.

Regular gold. It's classic...looks great but doesn't stand out (well, if you get a basic ring style).

Mine is definitely a little dinged/scratched up already, but I feel like it gives it character.

My tungsten carbide ring is epic.... I fake people out setting heavy furniture on it and screaming bloody murder from time to Time. I also tap it on concrete walls incessantly and it's not even scratched. You can break it off with vice grips but seriously I beat the hell out of mine and it looks new.

Titanium is actually soft I opened a beer bottle with a trial ring and it is all galled up.

The only ring other than tungsten carbide I would consider is a good stainless

Tungsten carbide. This shit will not scratch, will hold up to pressure, and if you get your hand stuck in machinery, they can cut it off in the ER.

Mine is titanium simply because it is so lightweight. I hate wearing any type of jewelry so I got as lightweight as possible.

Also, it will survive atmospheric reentry.

+1 for Tungsten Carbide. Inexpensive, very non-descript and impossible to fuck up. Just have to be careful about swelling, because they basically can't be cut off. I have a black one, love it.

I wonder why women don't ever get tungsten carbide for their rings (either). I think any stone would look pretty on that, especially diamonds. I wear my rings (non-wedding related) all the time - I can't remember the last time I look them off. I wear them to lift, do projects, everything. They're sterling silver and obvs not in mint condition.

Edit: According to the 'nets, titanium and tungsten carbide can't be sized, soldered, polished, etc. And apparently our knuckles continue growing until we're dead?

+1 for tungsten carbide for the same reasons lewoods and Noen wrote, I would be a lot more pissed and overly cautious always trying to keep my ring from getting fucked up or lost. $9 for my particular ebay-style, already lost one once a few years back.

The only reason [most] women want gold/silver/platinum/whatever metals is because they are expensive. If tungsten carbide was expensive they'd be fine with it. I'm not trying to sound bitter here or anything but that is seriously what it is, they want their man to have worked a lot to buy it. Same thing with diamonds -- in fact I remember in my economics class back in like 2007 the professor talked about how DeBeers took over most of the diamond trade in the early 1900s and convinced the world that you have to have diamonds on an engagement ring or else it isn't love.

I didn't request either of my rings because they were expensive. We went to the store and looked around and he chose one of the rings I liked based on the fact that I thought it was purdy and he did too. For the wedding band we both chose white gold plain bands because they were in our price range, we don't like yellow gold, and that they can be sized. We have lifetime warranties on all the rings and if the ring gets bent or our finger sizes change we will still be able to wear the same ring we put on each other's finger the day we got married. We get sizing, coating, cleaning, and lost diamond replacement free. We discussed TC rings but husband ultimately decided against it after speaking with a few people about it.

I know some guys that go with simple gold bands because they have a habit of losing them and are cheap to replace. Not for anything nefarious, they'll slip off at the beach while swimming, get left on a hotel nightstand after a vacation or on a table at a shop.

I take mine off quite a bit to avoid that but I've still lost it several times and have been very lucky in getting it back.

When we were considering rings, I told him I wanted something that was less than a grand, palladium, no diamonds, and it had to be channel,bezel, or flush set. After looking at a couple jewelry stores and being generally annoyed by the staff's reaction to my requirements (although I didn't tell them about the price range, but they knew they weren't going to make a big commission and it was going to have to be made for me since they don't keep any palladium in stock), I decided to get a cheap ring on ebay and be done with it.

A couple months ago one of the cats knocked the ring down the sink, and after I told him he said that I should just order another one. I should finally get around to doing that.

Tungsten bands are nice, but unless I am sorely mistaken, tungsten isn't able to replicate a lot of the styles that are common in gold and platinum. You could get a channel set or maybe a tension set ring, but I don't think tungsten is capable of anything more intricate than that. If the style of ring I wanted came in tungsten, I'd be all for that. But it didn't.

So you can call women high-maintenance gold diggers for not liking tungsten rings that traditionally are available in more masculine styles if you want. But I think that's a pretty shitty argument.

+1 for Tungsten Carbide. I also do a lot of working outside in the dirt, so this was a nice fit. I like how it's a bit thicker than a gold ring and looks more manly. Mine looks pretty much identical to the one Chief posted.

I have one and I love it, so y'all can stop hating on women now. I guess you did say "most."

I'm not fussy about needing a ring with a ton of bling (my engagement ring was fairly simple too- I didn't want it getting caught on gloves all day), it was fairly inexpensive and I work with my hands most of the day

Only downside is that if I keep losing weight, I'm going to need a new one soon due to my fingers shrinking a bit - but again, not a big deal because it will be cheap to get a new one

Silver or gold will get beat up too easily: my engagement ring is silver and is pretty badly scratched up now

I don't understand why women want to continue the offensive tradition of having a ring with a big stone. The purpose of having an expensive ring was to sell it so you could have some money if the guy ran out on you.
