I don't know if that is the actual title, but it looks like Captain America is going to go head to head with Iron Man. Not sure how that's gonna work out for him.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/10/14/showbiz/robert-downey-jr-iron-man/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

I don't follow the comics, and those that do I'm sure are excited about the concept of this movie, but I don't think I'm going to like it. I don't see how they'll more than likely end up working together again in Avengers 2, then fighting each other. Then what about Avengers 3? Do they shake hands and make up?

it's sort of a weird choice given that none of the current MCU characters have secret identities. hopefully the spiderman rumors are true.

And its also a little ridiculous. What is our government going to do against the hulk? Or Thor? Although I don't know if the mandate would apply to Thor since he's not of our world.

Ehhh I'm not sure this is actually going to happen. It would take quite a bit of setup to be able to do Civil War. If they had announced this would be the plot of the next phase after Avengers 3, I could see it... but I can't see them doing this to fit in Captain America 3 and Avengers 3.

Movies haven't exactly followed comic storylines. Could be a modified "civil war" type scenario that limits most of the stuff to Iron Man and Cap.

i'd imagine it's something like

  • Tony becomes the head honcho of SHIELD/whatever after rebuilding/replacing it
  • Cap doesn't want to join up after becoming disillusioned from what happened in Cap 2
  • they say he's a weapon that they created and as such own him
  • this is where the conflict arises
  • the power of friendship eventually prevails, or Cap dies and bucky/falcon become Cap

the normal Civil War isn't going to work, they haven't established that the world is full of heroes in any of the movies yet

i don't actually read comics, but i do follow them (if that makes any sense), and from what i know there is actually quite a lot of hate for the civil war story line from the readers, it was very divisive

Quote :

lines are drawn, some super powered people agree with the government side that people should be registered (led by iron man), and some disagree (led by Cap), it is government backed super hero vs super hero, not government vs all superheros.

Quote :
"i'd imagine it's something like

SHIELD is already being rebuilt on the TV show, and Tony is not involved

They pretty much did in Cap 2, the point of the Zola's algorithm was to determine people who would be a threat to Hydra, and they name checked Bruce Banner and Steven Strange, it heavily implied that there were plenty out there. Plus we've got ant man, Quick Silver, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Dare Devil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage coming.

The theory that sounds the most plausible is that Tony feels responsible for creating Ultron in Avengers 2, and because of the havoc he caused, he falls on the side of the government when it comes to registration, and Cap sees it as a threat to civil liberties and is against it. Plus they already started to sow the seeds of Cap and Tony conflict in Avengers 1

I still don't think it is going to happen, at least not in CA3. Nobody has flat out said that CA3 will be Civil War, this is all just based off rumor at the moment.

What I think is more plausible is something along these lines.. We know Avengers 2 is Ultron, who is created by Tony. After the destruction it causes he agrees he needs to be more responsible and sides with the government. In Captain America 3 there is some conflict that results in Steve's death, with Bucky taking over as Captain and blaming Tony. At this point they could lead into Avengers 3 with that movie being a full fledged Civil War storyline.

What I am unsure of is how this leads into the Thanos storyline. It had been assumed that would be Avengers 3, but if they actually do Civil War justice then they will have to push back the Thanos story.

Also there were rumors that Marvel was talking to Sony about letting Spiderman into the MCU... does that mean we might get the Iron Spider suit? I can't imagine Sony lets them have Spiderman in the movie without him having a major role.

there were some other rumors a few weeks back about Avengers 3 story basically being split into 2 movies, filmed back to back released a year apart. If they got enough build up to it going ahead of time in Cap 3 and others, the first part of avengers 3 could be Civil War, then second them all having to squash the beef and come together to beat Thanos. (all of this is pure speculation of course, i don't know if it would be a good idea, or if i even would want them to do it, just guessing about how it could play out)

There is a lot that doesn't make sense to me right now. Like how RDJ was signed up for Avengers 2 and Avengers 3 but not Captain America 3 even though it comes in between the two. Also, the Summer 2015 date on the picture is weird as that lines up with the Ant-Man movie. Perhaps that's when the Trailer/Teaser will be released.

Also, a question. The teased picture of Spider-Man being pulled by Iron-Man and Captain America is one that I do not recognize. Was it one of the alternate covers from the Civil War comics? A Google image search seems to bury it pretty deep and only to references of the teaser released. Either way, Spider-Man being front-and-center is _very_ positive for the recent rumors.

If I were to guess, I'd say Marvel has been in heavy discussions with Sony for a long time regarding Spider-Man, but nothing was guaranteed so they were moving on without it (i.e. Civil War) if needed. If they have the go-ahead now, they are making plans to push Thanos back a bit (probably an idea in their back pocket for a while). This would also make a lot of sense in terms of giving RDJ and Chris Evans a good way out of the MCU to let others take control. Civil War would be one hell of a send-off, especially with Falcon and Bucky ready to take over for Cap.

^you don't understand how RDJ, who plays Iron Man, wasn't previously signed up for the Captain America 3 movie? It has been in his contract, I believe since he signed on to do iron man 3 (maybe even earlier) that he would be in avengers 2 and 3, It wasn't even guaranteed that there would be a Cap 3 until Cap 2 came out earlier this year and was monstrously successful.

The spider man image is from a new teaser for civil war. Marvel has been teasing different events all week, "years of future past", "age of ultron vs marvel zombies", "secret wars", etc. The current speculation is these all are going to be part of secret wars and we are going to see some sort of universe vs universe battle. So the civil war picture might just be a tie in from a universe in which the war ended differently or something.

I wouldn't put much into our chances of seeing spider man in a civil war movie or anything any time soon. It might still happen, but I doubt it.

The Civil war in the comics was really drawn out and terrible. I can only imagine how they would it on screen . yuck. There was a little riff b/t Capt American and Iron man in Avengers. They have to step up huge b/c the civil war is full of superheros and villains.

well they wouldn't (and probably couldn't) do a direct adaption, but I think there are ways they could make a pretty good movie plot line using it as inspiration.

So, Civil War is based on some type of superhero registration act. But didn't SHIELD pretty much already do this with their database of enhanced? Because really, the only superheros the world knows about in the MCU are the Avengers.

So what's the big deal.

The difference is that SHIELD's database is a secret record that they maintain themselves on known people with powers. The registration thing is essentially a law saying "If you have super powers, you are required by law to announce it".

Also, the registration act was just how it was in the comics, we don't exactly know what it is going to be in the movies. Teaser at end of Ant Man mentioned "the accords"

I could never understand whether the comic civil war was intended liberal or conservative propaganda.

It could easily either be read as commentary on the patriot act (liberal) or commentary on gun registration (conservative).

I really like the feel of it. I was thinking that this was gonna be a standard cap vs. iron man battle over government control, but now it is starting to seem more like a fugitive-in-escape type film. I really liked the back and fourth punching in the last scene and the line delivery between cap and iron man. Iron Man doesn't make a lot of friends, and I can totally relate to the heart ache of him realizing that his friendship to Cap was second to Bucky, and cap had to choose to side with his better friend. I really like stuff like that pulling on the heart strings.

The last scene with Bucky and Cap going at Iron Man was so awesome that it made me inadvertently yell "holy fuck" so loud that I woke my wife up this morning. Cap 2 is still #1 on my list of marvel movies, and this is the same directors and trailer gave me the same feel, so I am ridiculously excited for this.

the scene with bucky in the clamp was at the very very end of ant man. I expect a lot of appearances in this one. Ant man will definitely be in it and supposedly there will be some sort of spider man scene.

I am somewhat holding my breath. On one hand, the trailer itself is very well put together. This looks like a good "Captain America" movie in the making. . . but "Civil War"? Not so much. The movie presented so far has next to nothing to do with the comic by the same title. That could be good or bad. They already usurped the "Age of Ultron" title which had nothing to do with the comic by the same name, but _many_ more people are familiar with "Civil War".

My main issue is that if it is truly just Captain America on the run trying to save Bucky, there will be no reason for them to pull in certain side characters (like Ant-Man), and all links to new characters (Spider-Man and Black Panther) will be completely unnecessary and forced like Scarlet Witch in AoU.

I am hoping there will be a much bigger breaking point to this movie than just Bucky. All of the Marvel movies and TV shows (including Jessica Jones) have directly referenced the aftermath of Avengers with New York being destroyed and the consequences via public view. That would be a much better focus.

^^Spider man is in the main poster.

It seems like all the superheros show up except Thor. So Cap 4 will be captain vs Thor.
Basically it's conflict inside the Avengers.

I think they hinted at the Superhero Registration Act when someone told Cap that some people see him as more of a vigilante. Hard to believe this is the first trailer, it reveals quite a bit. I'd expect more of 1-1:30 teaser at this point.

Love that music. Trailers are one of my favorite parts of going to the movies.

Only comment is I would make is the more I think about it the more Ultron seemed to simply be trying to out do Avengers with crazy action scenes and just size and volume. Civil War seems to be much more character driven with enough action to keep people entertained and payoff the buildup. It seems to be focused on action that is unique to the characters and situations. Not just armies of things vs heroes and giant set pieces.

I'm fine with the suit, they had to do something different to differentiate from the previous few versions, the only thing I'm not 100% sold on is the changing eyes, I suspect Tony helped craft it. Like that it is bright red like the comics, not dark.

I have no problem with them making the suit look different in general (they want to get away from the Amazing Spider-Man movies) but I think it looks too cartoony. I'm hoping that's just some CGI that they'll clean up a bit for the actual movie release.
