Got mine in the mail today. Very fast, slick, remote is nice.

I have an xbox 1 connected to my tv that does everything with just voice so I probably won't leave the stick hooked up, but I think I'm going to leave it in the box so I can throw it into a travel bag whenever I go somewhere.

I have to reboot this fucker constantly

And this is just dumb, but I'm going to bitch about it anyway. I don't know what happened to the remote, but now when I press down or left, instead of "snapping" it sqeaks lol

Yeah I'm getting wifi drops every few days. Not really enough to be annoying. Resetting fixes the issue. Hope they patch that soon.

I have had zero issues with mine and love it. Used it for watchespn and amazon prime. So much better than my yahoo tv smart visio tv.

Amazon prime loads instantly and reliably.

9/10 so far, only because the Twitch app needs a little work. But otherwise highly satisfied.

Waiting on them to fix the wifi portal logon issue. Called CS, seems like it was based in india.

After negeotiating with them for 15 minutes that YES it wasn't a WEP/WPA password i finally got my lingo right for them and said "Portal" and they said ahh, not working will be added in future.

Only ever had to reauthorize netflix nothing else. Also, I have it plugged into the USB on my TV so it shuts off every time I turn off the TV. I wonder if regular rebooting helps.

Ohhh, great idea with using the TV for power. Can't believe I didn't think of that. Going to switch that over tonight.

Thanks for the tip!

I have been noticing that in Netflix and occasionally Amazon Prime the video stutters. I don't think it's a bandwidth issue but a frame rate issue. It doesn't appear to be correctly applying 3:2 pulldown or syncing to the 60hz of the tv. Kind of annoying. I wonder i the Fire TV performs better. I'm not asking for perfect 24p playback but not stuttering would be nice.

does it stutter both picture and sound?

i had a bit of that this weekend, just assumed it was bandwidth as i was using wifi on another device around the same time it was happening.

Dish Targets Cord Cutters With 'Sling TV' for $20/Month

It's a start. Some people will be okay with it due to ESPN, but there doesn't look like nearly enough worthwhile channels to justify $20

^agreed. But I would consider picking something like that up for a month or two here or there. (World Cup, playoffs in a few sports, etc.). If that option exists that would be nice. But yes $20 every month just for that is a no go.

The sling tv lineup seems pretty useless unless you only want it for sports. I've been without TV service for 5 years now and while the idea is nice, it doesn't seem very appealing.

http://www.thewrap.com/cable-bill-battle-subscribers-providers-carriage-fees/
(Comparing the most-watched, with the most-expensive channels)

I might be interested in it if they traded ESPN and ESPN 2 (and I guess the Disney Channel since I doubt Disney would license their namesake channel unbundled from ESPN) for a better variety (USA, FX, Comedy Central, Discovery Channel, History Channel, AMC, A&E, and some national news like CNN/FOX/MSNBC).

If we can't have a la carte, I wish we could at least separate the packages by content owner: Disney-owned channels, Viacom, Turner, Discovery Communications, Comcast/NBC Universal, etc.

That sling doesn't seem all that bad. Beats paying $130/month for service when I really only watch local channels and ESPN(s). $20 is well worth it. Now upgrade that hardware to include a digital antenna for locals, integrate a DVR, and we're good to go.

^oh, my bad. I just quickly glanced at the article and also saw a picture of a STB, so I figured that was part of their sling service.

my parents wanted to try out my Fire Stick so i brought it over yesterday. Their current TV setup is HDMI from Blu-Ray to TV and Cable Box to TV. Then Optical Out to an AV receiver.

I plugged the Fire Stick into an open HDMI slot on the TV but no sound comes through. Is this an ARC issue with the TV or receiver? I know the receiver doesn't have any HDMI inputs, hence the use of optical.

I've never had a TV that supports ARC, so I am talking out of my ass here, but did you try to plug the FTV into one of the inputs they're currently using? Maybe only certain HDMI ports support that feature?

the more i read into it that might be a solution. Some older TVs had HDMI inputs that only supported video and not audio. Perhaps that's the case. I'll try it again tomorrow.

^no ARC at all? I assumed that was pretty standard at this day and age. (Their TV is probably 6+ years old)

i get "basic" HD cable (which includes the OTA channels and basic cable, including several ESPNs) and "standard" cable internets for ~$80 after tax...you're being raped if you pay $130 just for TV

also, just posting this from the link above

My TV was pretty close to top of the line when I bought it, but that was 2007. Doesn't feel like it's been that long though, but yeah, it's still doing fine and I have no reason to upgrade so I haven't.

Anyone else's remote complete shit?

I must have gotten a fire stick off the line with every defective component possible.

The buttons on the remote stick like crazy. Quick tap down? Fire stick is like, "hell, let's make it three." Had to pull the batteries the other day because it just wanted to keep scrolling in whatever direction was last pressed. Only time it's done that, but the 3+ for one presses are 50% of the time at minimum.

One thing I didn't think about before is that basic cable is free if you have TWC internet, so if you are okay with SD just do that.

My remote is great!

So the wireless network drop issue. I think they fixed it with an update. I haven't had it drop in a couple months and mine stays powered on all the time (plugged into the wall).

The Android remote app works well too. Basically does what the physical remote does.

The new Logitech Harmony remotes are great.

This one is only $99 and has the RF hub and you can connect it to basically anything (receiver, computer, tv, firetv, etc).

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BQ5RYI4/

Basically the smaller version of the more expensive one with the touch screen.

Yup:

Use your smartphone (available Harmony Smartphone app) or the included Harmony Remote to control your entertainment devices

Smartphone app includes Swipe and Tap control for one-touch control of your entertainment system, up to 50 favorite channel icons, volume, media playback, and more (Works with iPhone iOS 6.0 or later and Android 4.0 or later)

Included Harmony Hub lets you control devices hidden behind cabinet doors or walls, including game consoles such as PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360

Future-proof control of up to 8 devices: Works with over 270,000 devices including cable TV boxes, Apple TV, Roku, Sonos, Amazon Fire TV, Phillips Hue, Xbox One, PS3, and TV-connected PC or Mac"

As well as working with all the traditional receiver, tv, and set top boxes.

--it's a deal because usually buying the hub alone is $99.

I love the stick...the more apps they add the better.

Amazon's movie rental prices though ouch
