Premieres Sept 8th

Quote :
"PASADENA, Calif. — Everyone eagerly awaiting Stephen Colbert's return to TV will have to wait until September to see the late night fave back on the small screen.

CBS announced on Monday that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will premiere on Sept. 8, almost four months after David Letterman's final late show, which is set for May 20.

Over the summer, the network is planning to air encores of its primetime shows in late night, according to CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler. As for tributes to Letterman, she said the network is still "in conversations with Letterman about special programming leading up to his finale."

“I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby. So first, I should find out how you make a baby,” Colbert said in a statement.

In that time, Tassler added, decisions will be made about Colbert's format, which in the end will be a mix of traditional elements and "some things he's going to try to do differently." She fully anticipates him, however, remaining as "topical" as he was on his Comedy Central program and deal with current events.

The final episode of the Colbert Report aired back in December, with an episode that saw Colbert's famous character cheat death after many expected to see him killed off.

After a ten season run on Comedy Central in-character, Tassler said Colbert "clearly he knows he's introducing himself as the real Colbert to audiences," but she's confident the transition will be easy for the host. "He's a real student of media; he knows the format better than everybody.""

Set a great tone. Met to slightly exceeded expectations knowing that he couldn't be full Colbert

Seemed like a more mature version of his old show.

Def. looking to appeal to the older crowd...he still has a lot of the same character though, which is good.

Was pleasantly surprised, way better than expected.

I feared it would just be the same old Letterman schtick, but it felt way more like comedy central Colbert.

Will continue watching.

Thought it was well done. Really enjoyed the Trump/Oreo segment. I think he did well with the interviews. It was kind of weird seeing the guest walk to him.

I like how Kendrick was his last musical guest ever on the Colbert Report and his first musical guest ever on the Late Show.

enjoyed Colbert because he's Colbert. I thought the set and the show music were pretty subpar, but maybe that's just me vs some of the audience they are going for.

first two shows have been entertaining....not really a huge fan of late night shows to begin with, but i've always liked Colbert. while I'm not a regular viewer of late night shows, i could definitely see myself watching this when i happen to be up that late.

I've enjoyed the first two shows but I feel like I see too many Letterman mannerisms from him during the standup portion

such as?

I ask because of all of the things Letterman is known for, his monologues are looooow on the list

and I'm not sure I could even come up with a Letterman mannerism (as it relates to his monologues)

^^^ i didn't watch too much letterman, but I did notice colbert make some weird noises during his monologue, and he was kind-of bouncing around a bit... didn't seem "natural" to me.

You can tell there are still some parts of the show that need polish and practice. The intro standup part still feels a little awkward, as does his interactions with the band. I also don't like how he does the voice-over during the tilt-shifted title sequence; it doesn't sound good.

The interview with Scarlett did seem a little weird, but the Biden interview was amazing.

We'll see how Amy Schumer goes tonight..

I have really enjoyed his interviews with politicians and whether he aligns with politically or not he gives them their chance to speak. It was also refreshing to see him quiet the crowd before they got too out of hand.

I hate Cruz. I can't imagine his way of talking is natural. I think it is all faked theatrics. Absolutely can't stand it.

I felt like Colbert's interrupting of Cruz came from when he thought Cruz wasn't going to answer his question and just ramble on about a talking point.

Exactly. I wish that in a debate or interview, the interviewer had an air horn, and when the person started to dodge the question, they would blow it.

Trump doesn't seem to get flustered. That's an appealing leadership quality for the majority of voters who don't do hours or days worth of research.

^^That first week, he never said more than two words at a time. I think that bit about his book was to get him more involved with the show aside from the music. Can't tell if they're trying to get them to talk more between each other a la Dave and Paul.

His southern accent is poking through more than it did with his character. He says Y'all if he's talking to multiple people at once.

they stopped doing as many bits with the writers

and replaced those bits with good interviews with authors you don't normally see on late night talk shows and a Closer Look, which is the most consistently great thing out of all of the talk shows

he's also gotten much better as an interviewer

there's more to it than sitting as opposed a standing monologue. it's not a monologue anymore, it's a Weekend Update-type desk piece, which is what he's really, really good at.

i was hoping you were going to say they got rid of walking fecal matter fred armisen, but i see that's not the case. at least they put a better focal point in the band and stuck him the in the corner.

your language seems a little too strong here...maybe post some examples of this supreme greatness.
