Are you in Raleigh?

I expect to see that at the next C&C! Way cooler than some rich dudes P1.

Built not bought ftw. #StanceNation #LSX #TWW

The P1 is overrated, I've been to 100's of events with NASA, Chin Motorsports, BMW CCA/Porsche(POC and PCA)/Alfa/Ferrari/Mazda/R32/THSCC and I've never seen a P1

The P1 was the worse supercar in forza. Thing just spins out no matter what you do. My 4WD, Nascar engine powered Iroc camaro was superior in every way at Mount Panorama. Not even a competition.

This made me LOL

I have had the ls13 @ C&C before. Currently its not street legal so I doubt it will be there any time soon. Sucks because I can throw a rock from my house and hit a P1 parked at raleigh grand.

I really want to see this 240. Failed hub pics are scary... I had a frontsway bar link fail at turn 10 at VIR (e36 M3) a few years ago, instant snap oversteer at 90+ mph. Also kind of scary lol

Anyway, I'll be at VIR all weekend, if any of u are interested in a ride, drop me a message.

So did that P1 show up at C&C last weekend or not? I'm guessing not, since the weather sucked and nobody posted about it in The Garage.

C&C got postponed 1 week due to the weather (which is happening again)

The P1 should be there on Saturday (the 28)

Id love to make it to VIR this weekend but I am scheduled to do a clutch in my e30 since I have a day coming up next Thursday. Next time? Never ridden in a porsche

I will probably be at C&C sat morning assuming enough snow has melted, but in a DD civic. Glasssssssss ill have to hit you up, havent seen any other 240's around Leesville lately.

Snap OS at turn 10 is scary. Hope it turned out ok.

Air, I’d be more than happy to give you a ride in the GT3. Always happy to share that experience with anyone that’d appreciate it like I do! Alas, I just got an email saying the status is unknown pending snowfall this weekend :/ But, if I don’t go there, I’d def. go to piedmont drift as long as THAT’S still happening.

The incident at 10 wasn’t so bad, the car still responded to steering input, I ended up going off on the right side and slid sideways for a while. I hit coolant at Road Atlanta many years ago in a different e36 at 100+, that was the scariest thing I’ve ever had happen. Staring at the wall for what seemed like a year, at full lock @100+mph. It was worse than ACTUALLY hitting a wall and flipping a few times (VIR back straight, corner station).

RE: P1, I don’t care if nobody likes that car, I think it’s amazing and I’d love to see one in person. If my event is cancelled, it looks like there’ll possibly be all sorts of fun things to do

We've run Piedmont events in torrential downpours, sleet, snow, and once with the power out after an ice storm. It's not going to be cancelled.

Yes, I know, you drift guys are more laid-back and hardcore than most, I get it. Well, I’ll be there at piedmont if VIR wusses out (will know tomorrow AM). Is your car ready? Also, this was fun last week (Volkswagen Quantum Synchro FTW):

My s13 is forever not ready. But I might slide the IS. Or slide any car that gets offered to me, which is a pretty common occurrence, haha

We should have a TWW Garage meet - Id love to meet with you guys.

I was at VIR last year for the CHIN event - We scraped Ice off the front straight with rakes, pressure washers, and the broom truck. Maybe you will get lucky.

I actually ditched the civic tonight and drove the truck, its looking like it might be a 4wd drift session all day tomorrow.

^ New IS is looking HAWT. I love IS's - you lucked into that 5spd one. Does it have the LSD?

I’m totes down for a TWW meet! It’s been like 10 years since I was at one lol I almost PM’d to see the IS 300 anyway, this would be convenient, let’s make it happen!

RE: VIR, I have pictures from a Chin event years ago with freezing rain dropping on the cars and sheets of ice sliding off in the turns! It was hawt! A lot of crashes though, they ended up black flagging the first red session completely...

On a side note, I was wondering if I could find somebody to split a drift car with, or let me rent one or something, is that a totally ridiculous idea?

I mean, I’m bringing my GT3 there. In the spirit of this very thread, it is completely unsuited for the job. BTW, I was in first gear the entire time and did not use the e-brake. BTW, is the G8 a 5 speed or 6 speed auto?

Translation: If you don’t come, you’re not a man.

how well does the bumpy stick work... i mean will it let you hit rev limiter or will it shift at redline whether you want it to or not?

It behaves like a manual on upshifts, if you don't shift it'll just ride the limiter. It will shift down if you leave it in a high gear and stop. Since its not a high end DCT you have that 1 second difference from when you hit the stick, and it shifting.

I can't make clouds like you guys. And I promised myself these rear tires would see at least 10k miles. One day I'll come out for at least a ride along.

I’m hearing a ton of excuses...

People there are great, and I don’t think you’d have trouble riding with people at least, so... stop with the excuses!

I’ve got two FRONT wheels from a Carrera with snow tires on them in the rear... Going from 315s to 205s in the rear. OMG I CAN’T WAIT! lol

All you wusses that didn’t come out, shame on you and you missed out!

Tires apparently last a long time btw. I brought an extra set, and I must’ve done 20+ laps and the tires I brought aren’t even half worn.

Also, I have an announcement: As far as I can tell... 240s MAKE MUCH BETTER DRIFT CARS THAN ANYTHING FROM PORSCHE Too bad they’re broken all the time :O

Ahmet, you need a Seven. Mine goes from fun, nearly 300-hp go-kart to OHMYGOD it won't stop oversteering no matter what I do with just the addition of about 10-15 psi in the rear tires and a degree or two of toe alignment change in the rear.

Man, I’m so confused it’s not even funny. I love this car to bits, but it is NOT a drift car. I wasn’t willing to pump the clutch nor use the e-brake, so it’s partially on me, but the suspension doesn’t work for it either.

For the 7, I’d auto-x that car if I could trailer it there. I’ve said this to Nic a bunch of times also, you won’t see me doing 100+ or taking liberties w/a car like that on track, and certainly not on the street. You guys have a motorcycle background, I think our risk tolerance is different. I do enough dangerous crap, I’d like to keep my limbs and the ability to move them as long as possible...

As stated before, if you want a solid learner car, get a stock (or close to stock) S13/S14. They're ready to drift right off the bat, and basic handling mods are quick and easy thanks to a huge aftermarket.

The stock engine/drivetrain is fine for small 2nd gear courses. In fact, starting with low power will force you to become proficient with driving the correct line and clutch kicking. Without first learning the fundamentals, extra power is just a crutch.

The only major things you'll want to upgrade are the factory springs/shocks, since they're pretty squishy and typically blown at this age. Still stick with soft(ish) spring rates, around 8k (kg/mm) front and 6k rear. Anything stiffer, and you'll just be bouncing around.

On the "7" topic... Are you guys talking about RX7s? FYI, they have crappy stock steering angle, making them tough to drift consistently. They do look cool though

^found out my spring rates on the PBMs 8/10kg, so i am going to move the 8kg from the rear to the front and i have some 6kg springs on the way. Thanks for the setup tips yesterday

8k front, 10k rear?? You should find whoever put those coils together and slap them. 10f/8r would almost make more sense, but even that is a little on the stiff side for a drift-oriented s-chassis.

Srsly though, good call. 6k springs are readily available. Just double check your spring I.D. and overall length before ordering a new pair for the rear.

Wait wait wait, have you ordered 6k springs yet? If not, message me on Facebook. I might still have an extra pair of 6k rear springs from my Megan coilovers.

they are 10 front 8 rear
from their website:
Quote :
"MAX coilovers come with 10KG front & 8KG rear springs so if you wnat to run 8KG front, and 6KG rear, just take the 8KG off the rear and put them on the front, and then run the new 6KG pair in the back.
"

are springs from diff manufacturers interchangeable?
i could still cancel the order..but he springs were only $80

[Edited on March 2, 2015 at 10:25 AM. Reason : seems extremely cheap to me..i used to spend $21 plus shipping for a pair of springs for my rc ]

Apples and oranges. Suspension geometry plays a huge role. Spring rate is only part of the equation. You also have to consider the effective moment arm of the spring (i.e. where it attaches relative to control arm pivot and the wheel), among other factors.

If these spring rates are identical, the geometry on the left will feel much stiffer.

Also, "horrendous" ride quality depends on how much of a wuss you are

No, Lotus 7s...or really, more broadly "7-type" cars (clones from Caterham to the "Locost" types).
