Just because they didn't win 4-0 doesn't mean it was a close series.

Just because they were one goal games doesn't mean they were close games.

Just because they went to overtime doesn't mean they were close games.

That was a huge wtf moment, I couldn't believe it. The Rangers were playing with such great energy the last 10 minutes of the game. It was no surprise to see them tie it and I was feeling confident there would be another OT win. And then complete shock and disappointment. I knew they'd lose a few, but not like that.

I'm surprised you were able to get the same odds for the Caps and Pens. Caps are much more capable and I'm much less sure about this round. But I still hold by my Rangers in 7 pick.

- I've got the Lightning in 7 over the Rangers in the next round. Ducks in 6 over the Hawks.
- Lightning winning it all in 6.
- I had the Rangers beating the Caps in 5 this round, every other series is still live.

the lightning look scary good. I knew the red wings actually had a pretty good team this year despite the doubts... and they played as best as they could but still couldn't knock off tampa.
I agree Tampa is the favorite to win it all over Chicago.

Caps defense was on point tonight. Obviously I'm not happy with the outcome but that was an exciting 3rd period.

2:00 of the last 2:35 of the game is a power play because of an outrageously awful awful call.

And empty net, 6 on 4.

I was talking about the caps.

But I would appreciate it if you continue to bet against the Rangers. Seems to be working for the team so far.

This is going to be another great series. A little disappointed the Rangers couldn't score on as many chances as they had earlier in the game, but both teams played with such a high level of energy that it was exciting the whole way through.

This Wings fan is bidding Mike Babcock good riddance as his post-2009 record speaks for itself:
*Opening the playoffs on the road five times in six years when it did not open a single series away from the Joe from 1992 to 2009
*Failing to reach the conference final over the last six years
*Being rewarded by being one and done three times in six postseasons
*Missed opportunities--truth be told, Detroit should have threepeated (2007 & 2009 were just as winnable as 2008)
*The Eastern Conference should have been a cakewalk

Babcock can turn teams around but there’s also a big dropoff with him as well. For instance, after taking Anaheim to the 2003 SCF, the Ducks didn’t even reach the playoffs the following season. As much as it pains me as a longtime Wings fan, it’s time to blow the whole thing up! Even though Babs was miles better than Dave Lewis, Detroit went from perennial Cup contenders to struggling to get home ice in the first round to just struggling to get into the postseason—all of this following the ’08 Cup win.

Someone asked me after the '08 Cup how the salary cap helped Detroit. That's the point: The Red Wings won in spite of the cap. It was one last "fuck you" to Gary Bettman. It's just been from 2010 on that the Wings have been suffering from the effects of the salary cap. The commish got what he wanted in the end, and true dynasties no longer exist in the NHL.

Most people would not guess that the winner of a 5-1 game was the Rangers and not the Lightning.

so... why are you shitting on Babs again then? They needed to re-build since we can't just buy cup contenders every year now... And have been doing this rebuilding while continuing to make the playoffs. Pretty impressive IMO.

Some of the other current stronger, and consistent, teams like chicago, pittsburgh, and rangers were in the gutter for over a decade to create what they did in recent years. Even LA and Boston missed the playoffs this year after more recent stanley cups than Detroit.

But anyways. I hope they give Blashill the reigns. He's coached >75% of that team already. Hell Detroit was an AHL team plus 3 senior citizens (albeit talented) Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Kronwall this year. I think they are doing ok.

I am still struggling with his comment about dynasties, and the underlying belief that they are a good thing. A dynasty would be bad for the NHL. A dynasty would be bad for any governing organization.

The Red Wings have made the playoffs for 24 consecutive seasons and 29 times in the last 31 years. Since 1990 they have collected 14 division titles, 7 presidents trophies, 6 conference titles, and 4 cups titles.

This is the only sports franchise that holds a dynasty. No one else comes close.
