He just doesn't seem to fit in well with the skits or maybe he's just not a good "actor"...but you could tell from that Swayze bit that he's a damn good improv guy. SNL isn't for every comedian.

Thought "Beyonce is Black" was the best of the night. Cecily Strong slamming her face against the glass like Independence Day put it over the top. A+++.

Kanye...whatever. I just miss the first three albums Kanye. Other than BDTF, the rest of his stuff has been forgettable to me. Is there a ton of autotune in his new album? If so, I won't even bother checking it out.

the network switch has messed up every season pass

you didn't really miss much. really disappointing episode considering Jonah Hill has been a pretty awesome host in the past.

Yeah, I thought most of it was decent.

I guess I'm old, but I really don't get music like Future. I can't really understand what he's saying, a lot of it is just repeating lines over and over while being extremely auto-tuned... I've heard quite a bit of that in the last few years, and it just doesn't seem like it takes a lot of talent, and the lyrics don't seem to be very thoughtful. I know some will disagree, but that's just my opinion.

Quote :
"Cause I'm always repping for that low life
Repping for that low life
Low life, low life, low life
Know I'm repping for that low, low life
Representing, I'm representing, representing
Said I'm repping for that low life
Low life, low life, low life, low life
I'm representing that low life
Said I'm repping for that low life
Low life, I'm repping for that lowlife
Low life, low life, low life
Rep, rep, rep, rep, rep, rep, rep, woo
Yeah"

Quote :
"Yeah, they stereotyping

And they know a nigga keep ten snipers
Keep a baby bottle like we wearing diapers
Yeah, they stereotyping
Cause they know a nigga keep twenty rifles
And they know a nigga keep twenty snipers
And they know a nigga keep ten wifeys
Sniper, sniper, sniper, sniper, sniper
Wifey, wifey, wifey, wifey, wifey

while lyrics can be important with some artists, they mean absolutely nothing when it comes to Future

all about the sound and feeling

and posting rap lyrics without context is never a good idea

Said no one who has studied language ever. The mind travels on roads paved with words. If you fill your brain with 3rd grade level urban ignorance then what do you think your world will look like?

Are we out of good lyrics or are these people just lazy?

the music that accompanies the lyrics?

would you be a fan of "Last Caress" if you only had the lyrics and not the music/way Danzig delivers the lyrics?

OK, fair point. But at least Danzig is a talented singer and doesn't rely on extreme auto-tuning.

(and i do have issues with some of the The Misfits silly lyrics)

(and i know i'm being a curmudgeon, but i think this kind of music (is it "trap music?) along with reality tv and the republican debates just shows how stupid society is getting). And it's a disservice to link this music with the Dungeon Family/Goodie Mob/Outkast

But i thought some of the skits were pretty funny....

the vocal effects are a conscious choice that contributes to the overall sound of the music

it's not like he's hiding his real singing voice

it's just the evolution of the genre

I thought Future (or "The Future"??) was horrible...but I hate pretty much 99% of current rap/hip-hop...or at least the mainstream stuff. With the exception of Kendrick and some J. Cole...its all garbage...IMO of course.

There was no unique sound, lyrics, or even a great beat to those performances on SNL.

T-Pain is a much better singer than Danzig. T-Pain uses extreme auto-tune as an artistic decision, not because he can't sing.

Side note: a vast majority of commercial singers use auto-tune, particularly in country music. They just use it to fix notes, as opposed to cranking it all the way up to get a vocoder sound.

The Beach Boys, Monkees and many other musicians let the wrecking crew play the instruments on their studio recordings as an artistic decision. J/K

I like Future. The performance was fine. Not in the upper echelon of recent SNL hip hop performances, but fine.

To my point, though, it's been 17 years since the first time someone used auto-tune purely as an effect and people still act like it's cheating or trying to fool someone. It's no different than distortion or flanging.

If they mean absolutely nothing, then he shouldn't have lyrics.

And why are y'all acting like making a "conscious choice" about something is automatically impressive?

I suspect musicians have to make some very important choices in their art. But I'm not sure that deciding how to auto-tune some lyrics that mean "absolutely nothing" is one of those challenging choices.

I'm not saying the guy sucks or his music sucks or whatever. But y'all get way too uppity about this stuff.

It's not automatically impressive. But people put artists down for using it because they assume they can't sing, and that's often not the case.

jbrick can hate on auto-tune all he likes, but don't get it twisted; lots of "good" singers use it in much more sinister ways than Future making his voice sound like a robot on purpose.

can't wait to tell kids to get off my lawn when the NFL is played by all robot players, but that's just the evolution of the game and I'm a grandpa for not embracing it

auto-tune in general is a shitty gimmick like a fedora. T-Pain can pull off that fedora. Most can't.

Several things.

While I knew Future was using autotune, it didn't bother me as much as someone like Kanye using it to where he sounds like a robot. I just thought Future's performance was boring. If you're going to have shitty lyrics, gotta at least have some great beats or good delivery to bolster the show. Everything was blah. My opinion of his performance on SNL had nothing to do with autotune. To me he sounds like every other generic rapper that's dominating the radio right now. Horrible lyrics and a mundane/shitty voice...every now and then someone will have a track with a good beat...but I didn't get much of that from Future on SNL.

Getting back to my main point...I'm not against all things auto-tune...I'm against auto-tune to where it completely changes the entire sound of your voice. Fix some bad notes...fine. Add a twist to a hook...sure. Make a song that sounds like Rosie from the Jetsons at karaoke...not for me.

I thought it was pretty decent. Was very surprised at how well Grande did in the skits...although they were perfectly tailored for her. The Rihanna impression gave me a good chuckle.

The Bernie/Hillary stuff was good as was the weekend update (major lulz at Che overpaying fat women in a strip club). The "Not Feminist a Song" was really bad. Not a fan of her music, but Grande has a crazy voice and the performances were much better than I've seen her do in the past.

B- episode overall.

The songs are very hit-or-miss, but the good ones ("(Do It On My) Twin Bed," "Wishing Boot," "First Got Horny 2 U") are so good I don't mind the bad ones so much.

i've never caught on to Pete Davidson, must be too old. the 3 inch penis joke is just so tired at this point.

btw, they always talk about the 10-to-1am skits being the weird ones that made it in, feels like every skit tonight fit that bill. Not sure if Dinklage liked the weirder stuff or what.

Oh, that made me think, the shit stained boxers skit was decent too
