^^ what part of next year looks promising to you

the only lock on the entire 2017 schedule is Furman. We play vs South Carolina in Charlotte. We play @ ND, we still play Louisville, FSU, Clemson. We play @ pitt.

We lose our most important playmaker on offense and graduate Niles Clark, Drav Wright, Tocho, sessoms. We could be losing Chubb and Hill to the NFL draft

Unless Doeren learns how to coach and develop players between now and next season, you cant tell me that you think we have a good chance of being a much better team

unless Chubb and Josh Jones go pro, we return nearly our entire defense. I think 9 returning starters. losing Dayes will hurt, of course, but we should be solid at RB still with Gallaspy, Nichols, and Frasier, and i'd imagine JaySam will get plenty of carries as well

we don't lose nearly as much as you're saying. there's no real indication BJ Hill will go pro, not sure where you're getting that from. Chubb and Josh Jones are the two to be worried about. Sessoms never played...not sure why you're sweating his departure. Niles Clark wasn't anything special, he wasn't a starter. Tocho was solid, but not great at all. you're right that we'll miss Dravius Wright. we lose 4 guys to graduation of the 2 deep on defense (Nelson, Clark, Tocho, Wright by my count). that defensive unit made strides this year and should return most of the players that aided in that.

there's plenty to be optimistic about next year. next year will be a more talented roster than this year.

i'm not predicting an acc title...but we'll be better.

here's our f/+ finish over the last few years

2013: 92 (woof)
2014: 55
2015: 49
2016: 37 (before the bowl)

it's a slow improvement with the results not totally showing up in the wins column. but it's improvement. and i'm not arguing that doeren is a great coach. i'd have been cool with firing him this year. but next year should definitely be his best team.

my point listing the guys like sessoms is that our depth gets depleted and we replace them with inexperienced guys. One of my friends was telling me Hill was thinking about leaving and chubb is the obv sweat to go pro. To be Doeren's best team, you'd have to assume significant jumps by a lot of guys. I'm not convinced our staff has the ability to get that out of the guys

So BJ Hill isn't flirting with going pro, the only 2 Juniors that have asked about feedback from the NFL are Chubb and Josh Jones. I imagine Chubb will get a 3rd round grade and Josh Jones will get 4th+.

So if you assume those 2 come back and don't try to project and transfers, this is what we look like:
QB - Both guys should be back with another offseason in the offense.
RB - Obviously biggest loss on team here, but we have Gallaspy and Nichols back, along with Frasier and some reports that Hines is moving to RB.
FB/TE - Returning Mr. Do-Everything in Samuels as well as Moss, Cook, and McKever.
WR - We lose Cherry but get Ramos back.
OL - We return 4 starters, but obviously losing Scelfo will be tough, but hopefully we can replace him.

DL - Lose Nelson(2nd string) but return the rest of the 2 deep.
LB - Return entire 2-deep.
DB - Biggest losses will be Wright and Tocho, but should return everyone else.

ST - We're looking for a grad transfer K, and return our P.

So as a team, regardless of schedule, year-to-year, we should:
QB - Be better.
RB - Be worse.
FB/TE - Be better.
WR - Be better.
OL - Be better.

DL - Be better.
LB - Be better.
DB - Be slightly worse.

ST - Can only get better.

Last year everyone assumed we'd lose to Clemson, FSU, Louisville, UNC, and ND without thinking twice. We beat 2 of those teams, came 1 K from winning another, and a dropped INT from winning another. You can't predict how good teams will be next year this far out. ND is having a ton of turnover and losing top 2 QBs, UNC currently has nothing at QB(good chance they Zaire from ND though), and Clemson has plenty of questions losing their top offensive stars.

Obviously we'll have some transfers/injuries/perhaps guys going pro, but currently on paper, our team should be better than this year.

I imagine he'll be criminally underutilized again.

Sessoms never played. we can't lose depth if he never provided depth in the first case.

we also redshirted the majority of the freshman class this year. we had a big class in 2015 as well that will be providing depth. next year's team will be the most veteran of any Doeren team so far in terms of quality, contributing seniors and juniors.

^^thank you for listing that out. this team isn't losing much. we should be fielding a better team next year. and of course that is dependent on good coaching, but the talent and depth and experience are there for this to be a better team in 2017.

Our recruiting was atrocious.

our recruiting isn't great. it's not atrocious though. i'm pretty sure he was the main recruiter for Hines, McGirt, Johnny Frasier, and this year Darius Hodge (one of our better current commits). he's been our best recruiter for sure.

here's a list of his recruits http://247sports.com/Coach/Des-Kitchings-319/AllTimeRecruits

If we were to land Moore and Beal our recruiting ranking would be fine, but I'm not all that worried about rankings. Some of our better ranked recruits haven't lived up to the hype and our staff has found some solid producers that were 2* and 3* guys.
