Enters the race, only campaigns in Texas and Ohio. Wins both. No one gets get the majority of electoral votes. Congress picks Cruz as president. World ends.

Doubt it'd be Cruz, but there's talks at some level of doing this. Unlikely still I'd think, but running someone that knows he'll lose to provide coverage to some downballot Republicans. Nebraska Senior Ben Sasse has already said he's still not voting for Trump.
