I mean a guy like Kanye is beyond reproach to you, so it's not like I can get you to understand where I'm coming from. And that's fine. You can like and respect him all you want, I just don't share your opinion one bit.

you're coming from the angle of a salty fan of a team who he demolished in the Finals

you're also someone who can't respect absolute greatness and have to invent reasons not to like someone

so of course I get where you're coming from, you just happen to be wrong

You like loud, outspoken and obnoxious figures that aren't afraid to tell the world how great they are, even if it's true. I admire those who are not only great at what they do, but still maintain a sense of humility and grace, and are less in your face about it, much more than those types of people. It's a personal preference and not much more to it than that.

Lebron James is pretty much the exact opposite of loud, outspoken and obnoxious

and I really hope that you aren't of the opinion that Steph Curry is humble

I can't argue with you if you think that's the case. Like I said, you can't see why I'm not a fan of Kanye (hint: it's not because I don't like his music), so there's no use in arguing with you. And Steph is definitely not as humble as he used to be, but I don't put him on Lebron's level quite yet. He's never proclaimed himself as the "best player in the world" like Lebron did the year when the Dubs beat them in the finals, but yeah he's a hotdog on the court these days. If you want an example of being great and being humble, look no further than Klay Thompson or Kawhi Leonard.

Yep. Too bad his team sucks. I still think KD is a much better player overall though. He's been carrying the Ws this season with awesome offensive and defensive play night after night. He won't even be considered for the MVP, which I think is a shame, because he's surrounded by lottery picks, All-Stars, and the reigning back to back MVP. Regardless, any player averaging a triple double per game should probably win the award, which is why it's Westrbook's year.

Too early to call. Kd, Harden, and LeBron all have legitimate claims as well.

But if Westbrook becomes the first to average a triple double since 1962 I think he deserves it even though he isn't actually the best player

Amazing basketball being played this year.

- Westbrook averaging a triple double through 22 games. Just recorded his 6th straight.

- Harden looking like a great point guard.

- Young big men playing great...Davis, KAT, and Embiid

- Kawhi being Kawhi...same goes for Lebron

- Klay Thompson just dropped 60 pts in three quarters...Kevin Love dropped 34 in one quarter a few weeks ago

- DeRozan killing it

The NBA is great.

What?

The only thing that Durant does better than Westbrook is shoot the ball. Now he is one of the best shooters in the game, and at 6'9" with ridiculous length, that makes him a freak. But he doesn't even rebounder better than Russ right now.

The thing about Westbrook...is that even if he's having a horrible shooting night, he can still drop 15 assists and grab 12 rebounds. And he can get to the rim at will...which puts him on the line more. KD driving has decreased over the years while Westbrook's has gone up. He just affects the games in so many ways while KD just shoots. If Durant is off...then he's having a bad game. If Westbrook's shot isn't falling, then he can do other things to help his team win.

A big reason of Westbrook becoming a monster this season is nobody can share his burden. He has to do everything and puts the team on his shoulder.

Not only is he much better shooter, he's got size and wingspan (dude's a 7 footer, let's be real) and actually plays pretty solid defense. I'm not sure how many complete Ws games you've watched this season, but he's a far better two way player this year than anything I saw out of him in OKC. Some nights he throws down nasty blocks left and right. He's only getting better.

I get why everyone loves Russ, but KD has actually made the Warriors better this year than before. The team is built for the post season and I think right now they're still just trying to click and figure things out more.

They're definitely not as deep as the last two years, but Livingston, Iggy, Ian Clark,, McCaw and West aren't exactly scrubs.

I mean the Ws have only lost three games this year. I know the Cavs and Spurs are nasty (Clippers game will be a good one, but I'm still not sold on them), but I don't see any reason to think another deep playoff run this year won't happen.

nobody is doubting that they'll more than likely make the Finals

that doesn't mean that their current roster is built for the playoffs, though

Iggy and Livingston are both able to provide meaningful minutes, but are also older and not as able to do as much as they have in the past, and at this stage of his career, West is barely above the scrub line, and shouldn't be expected to provide any meaningful minutes, especially in the playoffs.

they're still a move or two away from being able to ideally matchup with the Cavaliers

If golden state is healthy this year I think they crush the cavs in 5 or less if they get out of the west.

The cavs are really getting old and they feature several guys like Shumpert, love, and Kyrie whose health is always a question mark.

Gsw is virtually unguardable and are a terrible matchup for cleveland.

It's like people didnt consider the injuries to Curry, bogut, and iggy and Greens suspension last year. And they are forgetting gsw added durant.

I still think they have an awesomega shot at 74 wins

I mean they're averaging 20 PPG, they're number one in points differential, they're number one in offensive efficiency, they're number one in assists, and a top ten rebounding team. The defense is already looking better and they've got plenty of time to get even better. But Westbrook! Or something...

I meant defensively, but OK. Or, at least they've absolutely got the potential to be a better defensive team overall with KD than Bogut and Barnes.

To me his situation is like Lebron joined Miami Heat in 2010. There will be some ups and downs but they are getting there for sure. They may need a lot of time building the chemistry but they are getting there. They are The Three Musketeers of Bay Area---three great shooters under the coaching of another legendary shooter in a team with shooting tradition since Chris Mullin?

They are getting there. Don't worry about them.

I'd honestly say top 5.

And it's not a knock on Durant...I once had him as numero dos after Lebron...its just that there are so many ridiculously good players in the NBA right now.

You could probably arrange Lebron, Durant, Curry, Westbrook, Harden, Kawhi and Anthony Davis and make a case that either one is 1 or 7 on the list. That's not even including Demar Derozan who might be having a better year than everyone except for Westbrook. Then there's Kyrie...who had a better finals than everyone except for Lebron last year. And up and comers like KAT and Embiid.

Durant is still one of the best players in the league...it's just that there is no longer any separation. It's pretty much just one big group of amazing players.

It's all an opinion but my top 3 overall (not just this current season, but in general) would be LeBron, KD, and Curry. Kawhi and Westbrook would round out the top 5 easily. Be honest: if you could have any player you wanted, all five of those guys are on the table for discussion, but Lebron simply has the hardware to make it an easier decision, overall.

Top ten, I'd expand it to include Anthony Davis, DeRozon, CP3, Boogie Cousins, and I'd throw in either Draymond or Klay (but I'm a Dubs homer, so forgive me)

[Edited on December 7, 2016 at 11:37 AM. Reason : forgot about Harden, so bump Klay and Draymond for him.]

I guess. I thought we'd seen him peak last season, but clearly I was wrong. I will never underestimate him again as a player. And by hardware, I wasn't talking about just rings. I meant MVPs, gold medals, finals MVPs, etc. Nobody else even comes close.

I'd probably pick Lebron...but it would be tough turning down Westbrook. Lebron is aging...but you also know he conserves himself in the regular season. You think that maybe he's declining, but then the Finals roll around, and he makes the Warriors his bitch and you realize that he's still the boss. I don't know if he can overcome the Durant addition this year in the finals...but that collection of talent is so absurd, that I think it would be a success if someone takes two games off of them in the playoffs.

It's obviously a complex question. Who's the best now, who's the best overall, and who's got the most upside?

I'd say that by far and away Anthony Davis has the potential to be an absolute monster, whereas LeBron has 2-3 seasons left before age is a significant factor and we see a pretty big decline.

Who's playing the best right now? Westbrook and DeRozan probably.

Bron
Westbrook
Curry
Leonard

KD

He's not cut from the same cloth those other guys are really. Lebron (best overall), Westbrook (Best PG, prolly best athlete in NBA), Curry (best shooter), Leonard (best defender).

KD is in the mix for one of the top ~20 spots, but he's not the best at anything individually, so it's hard to put him in that elite company today.

that's not very fair to his game

he'd be the best shooter on 29 other teams and when you account for his size and ability to defend he's absolutely a top 5 player

he just doesn't have to do as much on the team he's on now

^^Completely disagree. The fact that he's so well rounded is what makes him so special. His shooting is on another level, along with his size.

Yeah...it's kind of tough to rate any of the Warriors guys on a list because they just don't need to do as much anymore. Their numbers don't pop out as individuals as much and you start to think they're not as great....and then Klay drops 60 points in 29 minutes and you go.."ahh...and that's their third best player?? fuck".

^ What is your definition of well-rounded?? We get it...Durant is a tall guy that can shoot...which honestly isn't that special anymore. Now he's the best tall guy that can shoot...but what else makes him well rounded? He grabs boards...but he rebounds at a rate that a long, 6'9" guy should. He's not exactly a great distributor. He's a decent defender, but mainly because of his length. He's definitely not locking an opposing team's top scorer (that's what Klay and Draymond do.

Obviously he's not completely one-dimensional...but your defense of KD as being one of the best players because he's well-rounded is a little off.
