So many folks here were hating on ECU for making this their super bowl. But really, when we know we aren't going to even be top 3 in our division, let alone the ACC, other than the UNC game this was probably the most important of the season to win.

We left probably 10 points on the field today just in field goals that should've been and conversions. Make one of our early 2 missed FG, that 2-point conversion attempt is instead a simple PAT, the fake FG was instead just taken...the complexion of the end of the game changes immensely. Feels a lot like a coach that wanted to be cute in his play calling.

Our receivers had a lot of drops.

ECU at points moved the ball at will.

The play call at the end, maybe our QB thought the receiver would get quickly tackled and he could spike the ball after the clock stopped following the 1st down, but that was a stretch with only 8 seconds left.

the clock management was awful before the last play. we had a minute and wasted 30 seconds throwing a short throw to dayes on first down. the game was over at that point.

Our d line played pretty well today but I don't think I noticed a linebacker all day except when the one dropped a sure pick 6. The secondary was pretty worthless as well. Finley showed me more arm strength than I thought he had but was a little inconsistent on his accuracy on throws more than 10 yards.

On to the next one. It's just one loss to a mid major, and honestly it means nothing for our season.

This loss would hurt if we were playing for a playoff spot, which obviously we are not. What matters is we are still undefeated in ACC play, which is what really matters.

After ODU next weekend, the real season starts.

Good luck to the pirates the rest of the season, you have a nice little team down there in greenville!

^^ it means we couldn't beat the 9th best team we play this year. I mean we should still beat wake and odu and probably bc but.. It doesn't make me feel too confident about the rest. Plus when you're not going to win the acc, it makes our bowl resume look worse, if we even get to 6 wins

Is it embarrassing to lose to a C-USA program? Yes. Is it the end of the world? No.

Look, this might be a great wake up call to our squad, that you have to take lower tier sports schools like ECU, ODU, etc, more seriously than you might think, because this game means EVERYTHING to them. Why our coaches can't get it through the guys heads always amazes me.

And when the team counting you as Superbowl is a team like ECU, who is typically a decent lower tier conference football school, you have a mixture for an embarrassing loss.

Because it's not like we lost to Sister Mary Clarence's school for Blind Girls & Lepers- ECU fields decent athletics for a mid major. So lack of caring by our team, Super duper obsessive caring by a solid mid-major program playing at home, is a recipe for an embarrassing loss.

Look at what they did to UNC a couple years ago. Obviously, UNC is light years ahead of ECU with their football program, but ECU beat that ass, because ECU quadruple circles UNC and State on their schedule every year.

That's why they beat ACC teams often, yet still don't win their own conference championship.

(And look at what we did to their conference champion a few years ago, Florida Central or whatever. They were a better team than ECU, but we crushed them, because they don't have the crazy Local hatred of State that ECU has.

So until State looks at ECU as an important game, they are gonna continue to beat us and UNC frequently. But really, until we are trying to make a BCS bowl, the game doesnt matter since its out of conference against a mid major. Only embarrassment is at stake really.

you could have stuck NC State in the AAC the last 3 years and we wouldn't be playing for a conference championship either. Houston, UCF, and Cincinnati would have kept us out of winning, the same as ECU.

as an objective observer, the ref that threw it was behind the play and might have seen what his right arm was doing. The left arm/shoulder was fine, but the right could have been fucking around, or at least holding (which is what it looked like to me based on the WR's motions)

It was a bad call either way and directly influenced the final outcome. I honestly wish each coach could get one challenge of a penalty per game. Too many bad PI calls anymore that completely change the outcome of games.

Oh well. Hopefully this keeps us from ever agreeing to play these fucktards in Greenville again. Absolutely nothing to gain from playing this game for a team like NC State. If we were good like Clemson and needed to beef up our OOC, then yeah go play at Greenville so it doesn't look like you scheduled cupcakes. NC State can barely win 3 conference games. We need all the shit teams we can play.

Whatever makes you feel better. You act like we're fucking Notre Dame coming to Greenville inbetween trips to USC and Michigan. You think anyone is seriously like OMG ECU BEAT STATE HUGE UPSET!!!! The last 15 years, their success has been pretty comparable to ours.

Just give ECU credit for expanding their profile and becoming a decent program without the snide shit. Seriously, you sound exactly like douchebag UNC fan right now. In the last 10 years, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, South Carolina and BYU have all scheduled home and homes with ECU and they are all better programs than us.

Guys, we're a middling football team. That's it.

We'll beat Old Dominion this weekend, whoopdeedoo, but like this program has done since Philip Rivers graduated, we're not going to accomplish all that much.

Look at our record and who we have actually beaten, where does this sense of entitlement that a few posters have come from? In the past 3+ years our greatest out-of-conference win has been beating a 4-8 South Florida in Tampa...who also lost to East Carolina that same year. N.C. State has 8 wins of any note over the last 3+ years - the 6 ACC wins, South Florida in Tampa, and Central Florida in a bowl game.

You must be a closet ECU alum, because you have horrible reading comprehension.

#1- I know we aren't Notre Dam, which I explicitly say in my Soliloquy when I said that this game won't matter for us until we are in the BCS playoff race. Which we are LIGHT YEARS away from now. You dummy.

#2- Sorry, but ECU does OBSESS about this game. Sorry bud, but you know nothing of local college sports if you don't think ECU fans are super crazy about this game or any game against UNC. I guarantee you it will be their biggest sellout game all year, quit being so dumb.

#3- You're a dumb butt.

And to whoever said that we had to go back to TOBY days to pull up victory against Florida Central, you too, are a complete dummy, and should exit Sports Talk ASAP.

See there? 2nd biggest crowd EVER. Do you think if we had played ECU at home this year it would have been the 2nd most attended game in the history of NC State football? Of course not.

It wouldn't even be close.

I'm not trying to troll ECU people here, or trying to act superior. I'm just pointing out the fact that this game is bigger for ECU that it will EVER BE for State or UNC, because they are a mid major football program playing a local school from a big boy conference, and that's exciting for them.

That's gonna be HUGE. and understandably so. Who wouldn't agree with the above statements? Its just the way it is. It's probably huge for them to play Wake Forest for the same reason.

And I'm not saying our football program is way better than ECU's. It should be, given our resources, and the fact we play in a real conference, but we have a lot of work to do elevating the program, especially now that FSU, Clemson, and UL have really taken that big step forward.

Bottom line is ECU is a nice mid major football program that is obviously capable of beating some teams from bigger conferences, especially when they get all hyped over their perceived "Rivals". But that's about it.

As an NC State fan, I'm much more interested in the UNC, UL, FSU, Clemson game, than I'd ever be playing any mid-major, I mean is that not a reasonable statement?

ECU FANS- If there was a tier of football below whatever tier ECU is in, (is there still a division III?), would you get excited to play teams from that lower division? Do you think you would ever consider a school from that lower division, "your rival"?

No, you wouldn't. Case closed. Good night everybody.
