Just saw they announced the official title on the Star Wars Facebook page.

Jedi is the singular and plural form of the same word! We don't know how many Jedi are going to be the last ones!

Also, I wonder what the significance of having the main title text be red instead of the trademark yellow.

I think that the title simply implies that the idea of the Jedi, as we have come to know them, will be changed forever.

With Rouge One being one of the first films to portray the rebellion in a somewhat of a muddy light, I would not be surprised if this film exposed a significant level of hypocrisy that existed in the Jedi Order preceding the rise of the Empire.

The prequel trilogy did that.

The prequels were about the Jedi getting beat for being too ignorant and late to face the possibility that the Sith never died off and remained strong. It wasn't about the Jedi preaching values that they actually didn't practice.

The Jedi were getting ready to overthrow the government. How is that not hypocritical to their preservation of the Republic. Regardless of their knowledge of Palpatine. He's the Chancellor.

the government was corrupted and overthrowing it would have been the Jedi way. Fight for those that are too weak to fight for themselves.

Trump is corrupt. Let's overthrow him. It's the right thing to do, right?

DISCLAIMER: For those in the government that may or may not be monitoring these posts, that line above is pure sarcasm.

Ya boy the sainted Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode fuckin' I was a Jedi Master who, when faced with a gifted boy and his mother bound in slavery, elected not to liberate them but to cheat their owner out of the boy and left his mother behind. What movie were you watching?

[Edited on January 23, 2017 at 3:37 PM. Reason : That's a particularly glaring example of Jedi hypocrisy, in case I lost you.]

A prequel trilogy that was so poorly conceived that it's not worth anyone's time to deep dive into theory crafting from them.

I take it as the Jedi were one version of force users. Just happens to oppose sith. What Rey will become will be different. Yoda tells Luke The last of the Jedi he will be. So I think he's learned enough to teach Rey to become something more.

From the official website:

Quote :
"It's official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga."

Not thrilled that they see this as the Skywalker saga and not about the galaxy, or the force, or the balance between good and evil...nope...just the Skywalkers.

It may just be a marketing line, but that means they think the public associates Star Wars as just about the Skywalker family.

The core films have always been about the Skywalker family.

If you are looking for deviations, look to "Rogue One," "Rebels" or any of the planned spin-off films.

^^^Not exclusively. The legacies of Anakin and Luke Skywalker are built on epic galactic wars...you could even call them Star Wars.

Ep4 is mostly focused on Luke, but 5 & 6 show that he's just one piece of a larger story. Leia, Han, and Lando become much more important in terms of the rebellion, and Luke's story is solely about redeeming his father. The story would have ended exactly the same way if Luke's mission had failed, because the Death Star still blows up with the Emperor and Vader on board. The bad guys are dead, the battle is won, Han gets the girl. Ep7 made Luke into a mcguffin, but the quest to find him has raised his importance in the story...because apparently now only Luke can defeat the First Order? Kylo Ren's status within the First Order is similar to Luke in the Rebellion...he's an important member but they'd be doing just as well without him.

While Ep7 did a great job of introducing new characters and gave us reasons to care about them, they would get overshadowed by the return to attention towards the Skywalker family. I'm hoping Luke will end up playing a similar role to Obi Wan in Ep4 and not be the focus, and for there to not be another Skywalker offspring in addition to Kylo Ren.

The makers always refer to the Saga (1-9) films as following the Skywalker line.

Make that what you will.

^^That wasn't the teaser for TFA. The teaser just had that shot of Finn in the desert, Kylo Ren in the snow with his lightsaber (I remember the debate on the cross beams of his saber was all over the internet), and the first shot of the Millenium Falcon flying. Han/Chewie didn't show up until the first full length trailer.

Also, A-wings still around too!

Trailer was meh. TBH, TFA ruined the series. The plot was damaged so badly I don't think they can recover. At least rogue one showed us they still know how to make a great movie but they're trapped in the corner on this one.

Went to star wars celebration down in Orlando.

People were camping at 5pm to get in line for the 11am last Jedi panel that had the trailer. Slept on concrete floors.

Thank God we didn't try to do that. Trailer really wasn't worth it.

i think it will really be the last of jedi. The dark vs light has to stop. I think luke's intention here is to have her transcend dark and light. This is the next step.

How could it not be?

I mean the teaser for 7 had the first real flight of the millennium falcon in over 30 years. People had been waiting for this trailer for over 30 years.

There's no way the 8th installment could stoke such excitement.

Have you ever seen the trailer for Star Wars? It's TERRIBLE. Same for Rushmore. Same for a lot of movies that have trouble being distilled to some pretty camera shots and a couple of zingers. If anything, a lackluster trailer is a good sign for the quality of Episode VIII.

I was reading or listening to something somewhere where they were basically saying the modern trailer formula is to show all the biggest stuff from Act 1 and nothing from the rest of the movie. After hearing this I can kinda see it in some of the recent movies where I can remember the trailer and the movie.

Exactly. That is why it should be OK to say that this trailer is like a 5 inch dick when you were hoping for something bigger. Trailers are meant to get you excited.
