Seemed like a week or so ago the vibe was that he was safe even though fans were upset with results. Since then we lost to 2 top 10 teams and a bubble team on the road. Feels like if he was truly safe a week or two ago, he’d still be safe today. What has actually changed? Not a defense of KK, just trying to figure out when or why these decisions get made.

For the KK can’t draw up in bounds plays and after TO plays crowd…we have two wide open dunk off in bound plays under the goal in the ACCT. I think we would’ve had a 3rd but Mo was fouled. And at the end of the 1st half we called a TO, and Horne scored.

I’m not defending KKs results in his 7 years here. But the “he can’t draw up plays” and “it’s all AAU hero ball” stuff was always dumb

Ok calm down. let’s not act like this drawing up successful inbounds plays was always a thing. I don’t think we got a good look out of a timeout for his first five years coaching us. Last year was hit or miss. This year inbounds plays have been solid. I’ll give it to Keatts. This is a new development though.

Don’t really care how the NCAAT goes. Don’t really care how next year goes. He won an ACC Title at NC State. A sight that I was seriously doubting that I would never see in my life (conference expansion, potential death of the ACC, etc). He did what nobody since Valvano could do. I'm curious what you guys see as the biggest difference between the ending of our regular season and our tournament run.

It seems to me like there was a purposeful transition (perhaps to combat fatigue) to more of a half-court defense and while that hasn't necessarily caused as many turnovers, it is causing the opponents to take more bad/contested shots (UNC being the exception--they had tons of open threes they just didn't make in the final).

More importantly, it looks like we have become much more disciplined about getting into our offensive sets and patient when the shot isn't there. I'd credit MOC with this as he just plays more in control on the ball. I saw some shot charts on Twitter from the tourney run and we have nearly no long 2s now. I'm too lazy to look up if the numbers back up my eye test.

Obviously KK gets unlimited credibility at this point, but after watching this run, I actually have some hope that Keatts can add some strong tactics (and hopefully build on this success in recruiting) to what was already his strength in getting his players to play hard.

Morsell jacked up a transition early 3 in the Oakland game, and instantly you could tell it was the wrong shot and so out of character for the team in the last 7 games.

I think backing off the press has helped defensively.

I don’t know enough about the Xs and Os but one huge thing has been MOC hitting shots. Not to oversimplify it, but when MOC gives us 10 ppg, including a couple of 3s, our offense is so much better. Same goes for Mo (both offense and his rebounding).

One big problem all year has been that outside of Horne we haven’t been consistent from 3. Taylor has been good at times but overall streaky. Morsell has been a bad 3pt shooter. And MOC has been bad. Having a couple of those guys knock them down at just a 33.33% clip is a big improvement.

I agree that MOC and Diarra starting to score about 10 points a game is a huge difference. MOC was awful at shooting during the season but ever since the tournaments started, he has been much better.

I saw that Keatts got a $25,000 bonus for his first win and a $50,000 bonus for the second win.

MOC running the point and freeing Horne to move to shooting guard. PI did an analysis on pick and roll with Horne and they used LJ as a better option.

Middlebrooks and Mo have found new life in the offseason. They were off/on all season, but they are playing much better. Maybe letting Mo start in place of Parker lets him get more into the flow of the game instead of doing too much when coming in for relief.

I like Taylor's defense, but our offense seems to run better with him as more of a role player. Him coming off the bench allows him to be used strategically instead of a lead position.

Another change is the transition of using burns offensively. He was always one of the the two main options (with Horne), and he was good at scoring and good at passing - but now it seems that they run the offense through him every time instead of alternating whether horne was leading the offense one play and then burns leading the next. One risk is this requires DJ to play more, and he becomes more of a liability on defense (he has shifted to guarding the 4 instead of the 5 to protect him from banging in the paint as much). DJ also doesn't always run all the way back on offense and always pauses to set the high screen to get a breather (which is OK because middlebrooks and mo are better at running the floor anyways).

As others mentioned, we still pressure, but not quite as aggressively. We still jump some passes, but not as often and it seems like announcers stopped mentioned the "number of deflections" quip and our guys are more focused on switching and coverage.

Our guys are playing more composed now, and it is probably a confidence thing. We don't get down big lately and have to scramble back, I feel like Louisville might be the last time that happened.
