Good Lord, Pack Pride is the worst.

There's so much hatred for our players on there, no idea why those guys even watch the games.

________

With that said, I like the hire more today than I did when it was leaked he was on campus.

I do worry about his rebounding/defense but that is with an undersized UNCW team.

I watched a few games of his this year, they really like spreading the floor.

I think his offense will be a HUGE help for Yurt7, everyone expected him to be able to bang with the big boys as a freshmen...assuming he is back, he should have a great year. Abu too

The real first impression we will get of KK is this years recruiting class he pulls in.

Henderson applied for his 6th year so he definitely will stick around if it's granted.
Abu will be back, he isn't NBA ready.
Johnson stays
Yurt7 should stay
Freeman will be back
Dorn should thrive under this system
Hicks likely stays
Kirk likely stays

Kapita and Mav are the only two I would question. Mav is slow and doesn't really fit in with this system other than 3 shooting but Kapita's athleticism and grit should thrive with KK

____
Thomas Allen is already signed
De'Von Cooper may be another 3 star(4 on scout) target from KY area...42nd ranked and has size. Got an offer while KK was at UNCW

^Is Cooper a SG? Can he play point?

I think we are in good hands with Markell, but it's nice to have a good backup. I think most of the guys will stay, but I can't see everyone that's able (other than DSJ for obvious reasons) will. But that's probably my pessimism shining through after the Gott years.

I thought there were rumors that Johnson was homesick and considering transferring... before Gott's firing was announced. Seems like if he was already considering leaving before a new coach was announcded, that may just be another reason to leave..... but that's just speculation.

I'll be happy if he can convince him to stay, because if he can't, we're going to be kinda screwed without anyone who can run the point.

Listed as a SG at 6'4" could play the point a lot like Dorn

He is on KY radar and UL as an in state pickup. 5th ranked guy in the state.

As far as tampering, not really...we didn't have a coach and it would be really hard to prove...but it could be possible. If it is the case I really hope DY pushes it to the max.

Most schools offer to let a player out of their LOI with a coaching change, I think. But I also think it is indeed tampering if they contact the player before he is released.

Getting Kapita back would be nice too. High-energy guys with athleticism would thrive under Keatts. Not sure why he'd transfer, unless he's worrying about playing time with Freeman coming back.

Mav can go for all I care. I'm indifferent on Henderson. I wanted him gone prior to Keatts, but I think he'll get benched if he continues to give < two fucks on defense

Couldn't Henderson graduate transfer if he gets a 6th year?

Kirk has pretty much said he's totally bought in with Keatts so I think he stays and think he would be a beast in a fast system. Dunk city.

Hicks, Kapita and Mav have been really quiet through all of this. It doesn't make much sense for Kapita to transfer and sit a year. I figure he'd stick around and play one more and if he hates it go play Euro ball if he can. I'm not sure Hicks will have much room in this system. Mav should be a vital part of it if he can get his endurance/defense up. He's going to play four eligible years though, so he could very well transfer elsewhere and afford to sit a season.

Does anyone have any idea who the "cancer" in the locker room was?

I heard various things from people hating on DSJr for whatever reason, Anya obviously getting into it with Gott, and then as far as the player that told Coach Early "fuck you" during the Duke game - wasn't that Hicks or Henderson?

It seems like you nailed all the rumors and speculation around the team. People not gelling with DSJr, no leader in the locker room, Henderson apparently telling early to shut up, and anya having team-internal issues.

"Bucky, is this just a guess"

In regards to Kells, looking over his twitter and seeing who the managers have seen him around after BBall season was complete, he seems a lock to stay. He's hanging around the staff and complex...past transfers did not do that. He should lead the nation in steals next year...the only issue with Johnson is his shot.
Quote :
"Couldn't Henderson graduate transfer if he gets a 6th year? "

NC State applied for the 6th on behalf of Henderson, there's zero reason he would transfer anywhere given all the time and work the athletic department has put in on his (and Yurts) behalf, not just with this matter.

Quote :
"I'm not sure Hicks will have much room in this system"

Defensively he will be a HUGE asset especially if we can get enough conditioning to press the majority of the game. We will need a strong 7-8 man rotation. It's a chaotic system he runs, and on offense Hicks will only really be asked to set picks for shooters or do a high pick and roll for an easy dunk.

Quote :
"
Hicks, Kapita and Mav"

we REALLY need Kapita next year...big man depth will be huge with Anya leaving. Mav not so much but would be nice to have his 3 point shooting ability considering KK normally has one of the highest shooting 3 point teams in the country...but I also think Henderson and Mav have the same role in this offense but Mav HAS to get faster.

Quote :
"Does anyone have any idea who the "cancer""

If anything I think it was Anya given the weight gain and how he disappeared this year. DSJ seemed to just be so much more elite that the rest of the team got pissed bc he was showing them up on offense and then not playing defense pissed Abu off on the regular each game...

I don't think the incident at Duke happened, if it did it would have already been found and linked on every site for NC State, cmon...PP is the best set of sleuths in the nation.

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't some animosity toward Mav for similar reasons. i.e. sticking with him and giving him a ton of minutes when he wasn't producing (or wasn't net positive in terms of impact, so to speak).

And yeah I'm sure Kapita is unhappy. Seemed like when he got minutes we did pretty well (Duke game, etc.).

This goes back to another major problem with Gott and that was he basically promised the world to guys when he was recruiting them and then didn't deliver. Not only that, but the way he did distribute minutes just seemed totally arbitrary.

Yeah but Purvis was over hyped and under performed. Gottfried really didn't care what happened with him after he did poorly that season. Don't think Purvis gelled well with Gottfried at all once he got on campus.

Gottfried rarely did much in practice in terms of the team and development, most of the time he was recruiting or out and about. His on tape a few times saying he had not seen his team practice all week. His motto according to some previous players was "best scorer plays" and would recruit new guys to take people's places if he wasn't happy with how they did...Lacey, Henderson, Dorn, etc

Someone convinced Purvis he needed to play PG to make the NBA and he wasn't cut out to play PG. He was good at the 2 but relied a LOT on his athleticism. He never really developed his game, even at UConn he wasn't a ton better than at NC State.

Gott even tried to make him our back-up PG and he was AWFUL. Felt like he checked out mentally from our team one he realized he was never going to get any run at PG.

My biggest problem was that he treated it like we were playing AAU ball and he just wanted to have the most talented team but not the best actual team. Our pieces never quite fit together and often our offense looked like a bunch of dudes at the Y on a Sunday where you had 1 good player who dominated the ball and 4 dudes who deferred to him for the most part. We played entirely too much iso ball to consistently win in the ACC, wasting guys like TJ Warren, Cat Barber, Trevor Lacey, and DSJ. Plus our defense wasn't any better than those same 5 dudes at the Y.

^^agree.

Purvis wasn't awful but he was recruited as a SG but then he all of a sudden wanted to play PG over two Lorenzo Brown and also a McDonald's All American in Lewis with Cat on the pipeline. We had him 3rd in the PG rotation and he sucked ass. Remember people saying that his mom was like writing/calling to bitch at Gott for not playing him at point? Then he left for UConn and did a lot to dissuade other recruits of ours from coming. Fuck that guy.

He may have technically been on UConn's team when they won a natty, but he didn't win a natty and I hope deep down he knows that. #salty

Good point about Kapita and whatever his international status, etc. is. That probably does make it trickier. Plus he seems like he just wants enough exposure to get paid somewhere and adding a transfer year wouldn't really behoove him.

this, in and of itself, shouldn't be an issue. you always wanna recruit players to improve your team and if that means recruiting over an under-achieving player then that is totally fine by itself. but it seemed like Gott couldn't really build rosters. he just accumulated scorers. there's more to program-building than just mashing together a buncha pieces at the last minute every year. you need depth, chemistry, players that fit your style, and ultimately you can't have a team that is almost exclusively "scorers". you gotta have distributors, post bangers, rebounders, defenders, etc. it was like we didn't really have defined roles on the roster other than having 1 main scorer and 1 dude jacking up 3s. everybody else was just, kinda, out there playing some form of basketball...but not really fitting into a particular role or responsibility.
