You are falling into the same trap of assuming the popular vote will translate the same way in the EC

Sure, more Dems got more votes total across the board, but it doesn't mean shit, because places like Montana only had like 1-200k votes, but they'd still do damage in the EC.

See my previous post. I wish I could explain myself better, but assuming high voter turnout for Dems will signal a victory is dumb.

Yep, I'm not sure it was salvageable for a little while before Trump, but it definitely isn't now. Eradication is the only option. There's no nudging it back to relative normalcy. It needs to be totally destroyed.

I just won't have a hand in building a monster on the other side in order to do it. I'm not gonna support ISIS to topple Assad, if you will.

^ Emotions given to you by TV.

The other side is literally Hitler. Buy some Coca-Cola and dick pills to make you feel better.

I think we are already in a civil war, it's just people are too fat to do anything like walk with rifles for more than 50 ft away from their F150. Instead people share memes and talk about how dumb and evil the other side is to make Facebook and NBC richer.

But the thing is... one side is clearly far worse than the other side. There’s literal Nazis on the gop ticket getting 24% of the vote, Steve King can go to Europe and endorse the platform of a former SS Agent pushing white nationalism, Trump can literally refuse to answer any questions, lie about the ones he does answer, make tv ads too racist for Fox News to even air, and this is all A okay with Republicans (to be fair they disavowed the literal Nazi— but still 1/2 republicans in that district voted for him).

Meanwhile, what does extremism look like in the DNC?

Universal healthcare, free college? High top marginal tax rate? Estate taxes? Maybe telling someone not to dress like a Native American?

The extremism is very one sided here.

^^ You're confusing the framing by the media with reality. If he fumbled the question in the tapper interview one side jumps to he's racist, and the other side thinks he fumbled the question. The controversy around the, "making fun of the disabled reporter" is one such case. If you look you'll find he made that stupid face and gesture all the time before it to lots of reporters.

^ Target shooters and mass murderers both like guns. Doesn't mean all target shooters are mass murderers. Being tough on immigration doesn't make Trump Hitler.

Together these phenomena continue to lay waste to communities from Tennessee to Oregon, Indiana to New Mexico."

He’s not tough on immigration, he’s a white nationalist.

Stopping drug trafficking is a different thing than immigration, but he wants gullible people to believe the same because it’s easier to sell being against drugs.

When trump says “MS13” he just means Hispanic immigrants.

The proof is in the fact that Trump has been removing less criminals that are here without documentation than Obama has. Trump changed focus to all immigrants, which has taken resources away from finding the violent criminals.

The other proof is in legal immigration. Trump has rescinded legal statuses for maybe a million legal immigrants, and essentially has ended processing of refugee applications.

Trump isn’t tough on immigration, he’s against immigration of brown people completely, for the specific purpose as he clearly stated in Europe, to preserve “cultural identity”.

Outside the circus around Trump. I haven't followed it other than than the primaries and election night of 2016. The media's feeding into it clearly works to his advantage. It's like complaining about the Kardashians, talking about them even negatively only makes them stronger.

I'd read Dreamland around the time he got elected so everytime the Mexican thing was brought up I knew what he was talking about. Opioids are a huge fucking problem. It's easier to say they bring gangs in a press conference than to explain the nuance to the modern heroin supply chain.

Anytime I dig in beyond a Reddit headline I find a story taken out of context to make him look like Hitler. The handicapped reporter is a perfect example--there are dozens of clips of him doing the same thing to reporters not handicapped.

Not following it is the only way not to go nuts. I have followed the tactics the media uses to bait people into anger and rabble rousing.

On the terrible president front, his supporters see a president willing to defend our border against invading opioids traffickers and him standing in from of factories opening creating jobs. That kind of imaging is super powerful despite the likely huge tax giveaway. It appeals to the American identity of the past, uses images. When you start debating facts or numbers against that you've lost.

They basically think he's Jesus, because his theatrics are on point. He's the president we deserve in this era.

I think opioid trafficking plays an EXTREMELY minor role in the “defending the border” hysteria. There’s a reason that the immigrant caravan wasn’t described by trumpkins as full of drug traffickers. It was described as being full of ISIS terrorists, smallpox victims, Latin gang members. They hate immigrants at our southern border because they’re brown and are gonna “repopulate our sacred white nation.” They hate them because they’re brown, not because some transport drugs. There’s a reason Trump has expanded ICE but not the DEA. There’s a reason Trump has put kids in cages but has mostly refused to addressing Opiate abuse through Medicaid etc etc etc.

You are projecting your knowledge of opiate trafficking onto these people in an effort to understand where they are coming from. Instead just go talk to them face to face and I think you’ll find the true motivation is they straight don’t want Hispanics in their hometown.

^^ It doesn't have to be nuanced for him. There is a line of truth that isn't bigotry and pretending their isn't is dishonest (pointing out Trump is dishonest here doesn't win the argument).

^ It's telling that when you ask a Trump supporter for things Obama did well that they say, "He was horrible and did nothing". Same thing here, nothing Trump does could be well intentioned when you ask people on the left.

Not true, the left has defended his (admittedly dubious) attempts at peace between North and South Korea. Keep in mind that this conversation is about left vs right, not center (media & democrats) vs. right.

There just isn't a lot to defend when your policy revolves around white fear and consolidating wealth into the hands of the mega rich.

If the leftists were honest, they would fully approve of Trumps tariff and protectionist policies. This is historically a liberal economic position (though Obama and Clinton deviated from this), and you know the leftists praise Sanders for his similar protectionist views.

lets be honest here: Lets say you have a new boss at work. You have know about this person for years and its well known they have acted like a total asshole and said awful things. You do not agree with their beliefs. Now lets say he has been your boss for awhile and done and said all kinds of insane and stupid shit. He then proposes something that you might agree with but on principle you know he is going to completely fuck it up and act like a shithead about it. Why should I believe he is acting in good faith on something that is complicated and nuanced?

Nice try, but here's a nuanced view of the tariffs from the largest socialist magazine in circulation

https://www.jacobinmag.com/2018/03/donald-trump-tariffs-protectionism-trade

Summary: Trump's form of protectionism is meant to protect US corporations, not workers, and offers no incentives for them to raise wages or provide better working conditions.

^^^^Thats actually a pretty fair criticism of the tariffs, and a lot of what is argued (tarrifs wont generate the volume of job growth expected, how are tariffs supposed to help with national security?) aligns with the arguments of most free-traders. Some of the free trade assumptions are off base (domesday scenario?), and bringing up the corporate profit bogeyman continues to be laughable, especially by so-called socialists.

Thanks for sending, it's interesting to see how liberals contort their thinking to oppose the president on an issue they would completely back if President Sanders enacted it.

lol how can you read that article and see it as contortion? Leftist protectionism would be very different from what we're seeing with Trump. Socialism is global, and moving underpaid, dangerous, and soon to be obsolete jobs from one country to another isn't it.
