Of ITB options, I really prefer Ruckus @ MV. Moonlight is okay. Haven't gone to Lilly's in a while because I got tired of the bad service and some bad misses w.r.t. quality. I think it's overrated.

I don't fuck with Trophy because seating is first-come-first-serve and I hate having to play the "assess the status of existing tables' meals, then aggressively swarm a table as soon as it comes open" game. Please just get a fucking number system and I'll gladly be a customer.

Haven't been over to Oakwood yet, but I'd eat 3 week old reheated Food Lion pizza with a smile on my face, so no one should be looking to me.

What else should I check out for neapolitan style? I just got back from Naples and will have a hard time paying $16 instead of the 4-5 euros they cost over there.

I only get their version of the Rio Rancho (or w/e it's called at NY Pizza). It's not as good, but is a decent substitute.

^^for neopolitain did you try pompieri yet? pretty solid and cheap and relaxed atmosphere. pizza la stella is good they just haven't been consistent in my experience, i've had great pizza and meh pizza there. pizzeria faulisi in cary is good, if you're near southpoint there is a place called treforni that's good, and i haven't been there yet but i've heard capps way out near briar chapel is really good.

lately i've been experimenting with my own, i've had pretty good results on my grill by using some masonry blocks to make a pizza oven with a stone on the bottom and pizza steel on the top. i've been happy enough that i may even try to make my own wood burning pizza oven. even just a stone on your grill or steel in your oven will give you a pretty nice char, and trader joe's dough is pretty decent if you don't want to make your own

I'm surprised nobody here has said Frank's. I have multiple friends who claim Frank's is the best but I think their pizza is shit aside from plain cheese. Nice crispy NY style, but I when I went their toppings were canned bullshit.

Canned mushrooms are never okay

^^I think it's worse but they have like a cheeseburger pizza with pickles that's decent that I would order sometimes from the one on Franklin St. Their version of Pokey Stixx always came out burnt though

^^ tried it once after a NY friend said it was their favorite and wasn't impressed with the chicken BBQ slice I had. Crust was too thick, for starters. Was generally pretty bland.

I mean I think Randy's is a decent option too, at least in North/Central Cary.

If I still lived nearby, Frank's is still my fav aside from Silvia's RIP.

Eh yeah but the one is Cary is honestly I think a little better. It's still just cheap NY slices. If there was a markably better option nearby I'd take it though, which there may be.

If you don't like Randy's style of pizza I get it... but Miami Blvd is easily their flavor flagship. Comparing any other location is a disservice.

We went to Oakwood Pizza Box again June 30th a few days after my rant on page 1. I asked my wife to give it one more shot based on the recommendation of @GenghisJohn.

The only reason I haven't reported until now is that I'm ashamed I went to that place again and let them sucker my money. The pizza has no flavor. What's worse is there is just enough sauce on it that every 3rd bite you get a taste of it and think to yourself "man, I could actually swallow this if there were some sauce." but then that sauce pocket never comes. It just never comes.

I'm solidly convinced that this place is much like The Pit- overrated and people are scared to say they don't like it because everyone else chimes in and says how much they like it. I'm beginning to think OPB is one of those mental experiments to see how compliant people are and how they are subject to groupthink.

Seriously, fuck that place and the deworming agent they put on their pizza.

^^ Good. Their crust is definitely on point. Pies are all personal sized (on the larger side of that scale though). Personally, I felt like they're trying a little too hard with their signature pies, but I sampled 3 and they were all tasty. A little overpriced, but it's a Downtown AC joint, so that's not too surprising.

Try the shrimp and grit croquettes though, those were amazing. My girlfriend is not a shellfish fan and even she loved them.

I thought Poole's side pies was alright. Granted we took our kid, so the experience wasn't ideal. Some of the other food I had there was good but their pizza was tasty but not worth the price point. We ordered two pizzas and that was $40. At that price point I'd expect the pizza to have been so good that we spoke about it for days or that I craved having it again. Neither is true.

If they served that at Oakwood pizza box at their pie size and price point, then it would be a family favorite.

I'd say it is about 9" or 10". Definitely on the larger size of personal but if you're aiming to have an experience you'll absolutely want to have two between two people. We had maybe 3 pieces left over after eating our salad plus pizza.
