The women won their first game of the year today against North Florida 93-65. Kai was the star with 21 points, 4 for 5 on threes and 8 for 10 on FGs. I think Cunane also got her 1000th career point today. Jada Boyd had a double double.

I didn't get to watch it but one of my friends who did said the team was shooting better from 3 than any recent WBB team we've had and had good D, but keep in mind it was against the stout defense of a season-opening cupcake.

We also had 4 players take the court for the first time tonight: Elle Sutphin from last year's class, plus rookies Genesis Bryant, Rebecca Demeke, and Dontavia Waggoner. They didn't do a whole lot, though; they only played in the 2nd half.

Fairly concerned that our only other game before taking on the no. 1 ranked South Carolina (who just beat their cupcake 119-38) is Radford.

Luckily we were able to find a quick replacement and now have a game against NC Central, same time and place.

Beat Coastal Carolina 98-46 after trailing for most of the 1st quarter. That was without playing Kai Crutchfield, who's recovering from a foot injury.

Ranked no. 4 in the nation after the win over South Carolina. They're now no. 5

^^apparently we should also getting back starter Jada Boyd, maybe after Christmas, who hasn't played the last two games (including the win over #1 Gamecocks)

That'll be sweet, we've looked really nice even without her. That new transfer, Raina Perez (grad transfer from Cal State Fullerton) has been playing offense really well. Can't wait to see what a full lineup looks like

That was one of the most insane comebacks I've ever seen. Down at one point in the 4th quarter by 16 points. Won by 6.

Here's the win probability from ESPN

Holy shit no game in weeks, no Elissa Cunane, they come back down 11 with 6 minutes to go and win.

This team is truly incredible. Two of the best comebacks I've ever seen a team have this year.

Well, we didn't manage to pull it off vs VT this time. Tied it up with a last-second desperation 3 to send it to OT but just did everything wrong while the Hokies excelled in the extra 5 minutes. We were slowly chopping our way back with the foul and 3 (or some 2+1's gifted by bad VT D) but got annihilated by a tech called on Wes Moore for currently-unknown reasons.

Though VT is now 8-7 with a barely 500 record, they're not actually even close to as bad as their record makes them look. They're a good, young team with lots of close losses, so while this is disappointing, it's not awful. Especially since we had no Cunane.

VT is fourth best team in ACC according to the computer rankings. Glad they are done with them. Sheppard and Kitley is a solid duo. Our women were exhausted and Wes hasn't been playing the freshmen any so mainly a 7-woman rotation last few games.

And I'm going to get a hearty laugh when we end up ranked either 3 or 4 next week behind both USC and Louisville.

We looked absolutely dominant all game. The first time we've played Louisville in 3 years and not had them totally run away with it.

Perfect execution by the women's team tonight. Rankings are gonna be interesting next time they're updated.

Very disappointing. UNC's 3 point shooting killed us. They shot better from 3 than than the field. We left them wide open too often. They made 11 compared to our 4.

Strong win over Clemson today. First half was dominant; we went on a 12-0 run before Clemson ever scored, and Kayla Jones had an 11-point first quarter (team was leading 28-9 ). The last three quarters were all more competitive, with Clemson outscoring us in 2/3, but we still won 86-65.

Exactly the kind of dominant win we needed today to bounce back from the UNC loss and hopefully get a good groove going.

Kinda funny, but Wes said in the pre-game show today that he wanted the team to be like McDonald's Fries -- the same everywhere. We'll see how well that turns out in our next road game on Feb 18th at Wake Forest, but before that we have Notre Dame at home. Hopefully those will both be good 'mesh' games.

Nice easy road win at Wake who had won three in a row 66-47. Score could have been much worse as we only scored 6 in the 4th.

Need to win out. Winner of the ACCT probably gets a 1 seed if us or Louisville.

^For once it's nice to know that no, we don't need to win out. A 1-seed would be great but that's not make-or-break. Just knowing we're guaranteed to be there is a weird enough feeling as a state fan.

Unless they lose, Louisville will still be #1 in the conference because they played more games. Otherwise we would have the head to head. ACCT is what matters anyway.
