It is wild to rebuild by trading one of your youngest players. He is fuckin 22. Trading him would just be admitting you're content with being bad forever and just minimizing payroll.

Meh, if you are new ownership and don't think he is part of the future, then you get rid of him now while you can still get assets for him. You could have said all of that about the Thunder when they traded Paul George and Russ. Now they have one of the brightest futures in the NBA over the next 3*4 years.

The hornets have been bad forever because they don't draft well and they have never really bottomed out. It seems like they are actually trying to do that now and I'm interested to see if they can draft well once they get picks.

Melo's new contract doesn't even go into effect until next year. It's frustrating af that he stays hurt but trading him this season is too soon. If he can't stay on the floor next year, maybe you consider it then, but not now. Unless some team offers you a crazy offer, which I doubt anyone would.

They traded Russell Westbrook when he was 30 and Paul George when he was 29. So no it's not the same as trading away one of the two young stars on a team that could very well add a third in the draft this coming season. Especially because no one is going to give any sort of value for Ball because of his injury history. You'd be trading away an all-star #3 overall pick for pennies on the dollar. Hell Ball is still younger than some guys who will be drafted this year. It would be ridiculous to give up on his potential now.

Agree that they haven't drafted well since being reincarnated as the bobcats, disagree that they have never bottomed out. They just have never done anything with it because of said bad drafting. Trading one of their few draft hits (ball) while he's still incredibly young would be another in a long line of front office blunders.
