Idk about it being sad. It’s the end of an era and all that. But he’s in his 70s. Didn’t hang on too long like other legends (Bowden). He didn’t go out on top, but he still made the CFP this year and won the SEC against a beast UGa team. I don’t really see what’s sad about how he retired. Did you want him to do the K thing of retiring before the season and then doing one last retirement tour season?

Could be a lotta dominoes falling…Harbaugh to the NFL? Saban retiring. It’s almost mid January (and Harbaugh to nfl isnt a definite) and we could have at least 2 CFP teams with openings

I wonder if it was a combination of already having accomplished a ton, plus not wanting to have to deal with the portal, that was the final straw for Saban

That makes sense and I’m sure there’s some truth to it. But he’s also 72 years old. It probably normal for anybody to want to quit working by that age. He seemed to adapt well to changes in CFB recently. More than Dabo for example.

If he didn't want to deal with the portal wouldn't be have retired when it first became a thing?

This FSU/NCAA thing feels like such bullshit. Hate taking FSUs side but this is kinda laughable

IDK what exactly they were doing so it's hard to take their side. They probably did something incredibly stupid and obviously against the rules.

Not knowing what the rules are, I'm not sure how they broke them

Quote :
"The NCAA said the assistant coach facilitated impermissible contact between a transfer prospect and a booster in the spring of 2022, driving the prospect to meet with a booster. During the meeting, the booster encouraged the prospect to enroll at Florida State and offered him an NIL opportunity with the collective worth approximately $15,000 per month during his first year at the school. The prospect did not enter into an agreement with the booster or receive any related compensation and returned to his school."

I realize the coaches aren’t supposed to help facilitate the NIL stuff. But do we just expect the players to meet with the coaches on a recruiting visit and then accidentally and totally by chance bump into the NIL dudes on their way out of the football building?

I guess, as is the case with all NCAA stuff, just don’t be bad and obvious about breaking the rules.

Gotta just not have coaches drive a kid who is on an official visit to meet with the guy who explicitly does the one thing the NCAA says you can't do with NIL and tie it to recruiting.

My god that’s amazing

I applaud Ferentz’s commitment to the bit.
