Name of course : Calculus I
Description : First of three semesters in a calculus sequence for science and engineering majors. Functions, graphs, limits, derivatives, rules of differentiation, definite integrals, fundamental theorem of calculus, applications of derivatives and integrals. Use of computation tools.

class comments :If you studied your notes and went over the problems in the book it was pretty easy to pass this class. Making an A could be difficult at times because there were daily quizzes that only had one problem. You miss it and you get a zero for the day. A couple of these in a row would really bring down your average. Basically your grade is computed by averaging your quiz average with your exam average. If you're doing poorly on the quizzes you can use the exam to pull your grade up.

He only actually tought once a week or so. Great way to fail many freshman with bad study habits. What an ass. The only reason this guy's grade distribution is this any good is because if you stayed long enough into an exam, either the TA or himself started giving hints to lead you to the right answer.

The only positive things about him was he graded assignments promptly and helped adjust grades when the entire class did horrible. Beware of this professor!!! I would never take another class taught by him!

class comments :The material was presented well and clearly. We went at a good pace and as needed WebAssigns were extended. All WebAssigns were available at the beginning of the class so if you got time, you could do them all ahead of time.

instructor comments :A great teacher. She always had hours she could help, would do anything inside and outside of class to help a student do well. I know for some she held study sessions and did reviews as needed. Unlike new teachers, she knew the information very well... she could do calc AND teach it, something my last TA I had couldn't do well. Also she is very caring, and tries to accomidate everyone. (She gave the class goodie bags on Easter... what teacher does that?). Her style reminds me of what exist

class comments :I honestly hated this class more than any other classes.

instructor comments :Silverstein wasn't horrible- I'm sure he would be a good teacher if you understood what he was saying. He speaks perfect English, but he talks way above anyone's head and goes at a pace no one can really keep up with. If you ask him a question he gets mad or answers it in a way you don't understand. I only got an A because I had a really good calculus teacher in highschool and I only studied those notes.

class comments :Maple and webassign blow. We got out early a few times and a few times got 2 days off a week.

instructor comments :Sibley is a really good professor. I started off with some douche name Terry Ford. Luckily Sibly had a spot though. He was really friendly and laid back. If you're late for class he'll count you absent though.
